This is a photo of me from when I first started shooting 4x5 film in 2015. It’s hard to believe it was almost 6 years ago. Admittedly, I still look pretty much the same. But I’ve grown so much and learned so much since this photo. I’ve made use of all of these years and have learned so much more about film photography. It’s been a long journey but my passion for film has only grown stronger with every year that passes. This photo was made by one of my former mentors, Erin, a true master of film photography. I’m so grateful to have learned from him as well as many others over the years. I couldn’t have gotten to the point I am now without all of them. This photo was made on 4x5 Polaroid peel apart film using a Shen Hao large format film camera. Peel apart film is interesting because it leaves both a positive and a negative. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JASON! This is one of my favorite pictures of us - its relaxed and mellow and in the midst of another experience and adventure in a beautiful spot with cool animal life, so it really feels like us to me. It was during our 10th anniversary adventures, in Grand Tetons - a place that I really came to love - and right before our next stop back to Yellowstone - another place I came to love. For all of our special occasions, we especially love to travel and create new memories and shared stories, rather than give gifts. This birthday is different, though, through no choice of our own, of course, so the travel and adventure must wait. But I will happily celebrate my favorite person, my lifetime dive buddy, and my travel partner for life, even if its just in our home today. And, as always, I will fully enjoy re-reading him my pre-wedding love letter tonight (my couples know what I mean), as the sentiments within it mean even more to me in the craziest of times. - When I was college, the voices started in my head. I lost my 20’s with 3 psych lock ups and the loss of 4 jobs. But I was lucky enough to find an good psychiatrist, who with the right meds saved my life. I’m 56 now. Have a great job...a wonderful family. FU mental illness. You didn’t win this time.
