Ghost Division An actual propaganda poster, displayed on Signal Magazine on 1940, shows the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. C, turret number 432, commanded by Oberleutnant Karl Hanke, assigned to Panzer Regiment 25 / 7th, Panzer Division, during the Battle of France. . Under command of Erwin Rommel, and part of the 15th Panzer Corps, the 7th Panzer Division became a myth, earning the Ghost Division name in the Campaign of France due to its rapid movements and the difficulty to contact them since no-one, even the high command, knew where they were. . Rommel, who fiercely understood Blitzkrieg concepts, would command often from near the front lines, thus saving time and giving orders from what he saw. . This proved highly efficient, and, in some ocassions, German commanders would disobey or ignore High Command orders, giving themselves new ones guiding by their instincts, and, as long as this disobedience ended with a favourable result, nothing would really happen. . This comes back from the WW1, where Stoßtruppens had to make their moves guiding by what they saw in the front lines, having no time to send and recieve orders from the HQ. . Combat and situations can suddenly change, so having the capability to act from what you see, gives you a lot of versatility. . part 1 of long post --- Thirty one years ago this very night, I was plopped atop the podium of a street lamp post on a major road outside of my home just 5 minute walk from Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The student protests have been on-going and escalating next door to us leading up to that night, and my mom and I were waiting for a bus to take us to my grandmothers house. No bus ever came. What did come was a scene that will forever be etched in my memory, even though I couldnt comprehend it at the time. It first started with a distant, unrecognizable noise that broke the silence in the empty road. The noise quickly came closer and became what sounded like a chorus of battle roar, then a young man riding a bike carrying behind him a young girl waving a big flag came into my view. They were riding at top speed in the direction of the Square, closely followed by a sprinting mob of what looked like hundreds of young men and women. Even at the age of 6, I could feel their adrenaline and their pride. Shortly after they disappeared from my view, another mob of people quickly followed behind. This time, they were in green uniform with metal helmets. Spurts of loud crackling sounds can be heard clearly, some accompanied by sounds of glass shattering. It took a minute for everyone on the sidewalk to realize that these were sounds of guns firing into the sky, or at nearby buildings. Tank infanteri, digunakan dalam kerja sama erat dengan infanteri selama serangan. Tank jelajah cepat yang dirancang untuk melakukan perampokan jauh ke dalam wilayah musuh. Pada tahun 1934 perusahaan vickers armstrong diminta menyediakan tank yang murah. Desain dikenal dengan spesifikasi staf umum A9. On this day 20 years ago, the Second Intifada broke out in Palestine after Israels opposition leader Ariel Sharon entered Al-Aqsa mosque accompanied by heavily armed soldiers and police. The incursion into one of the most sacred places in the Muslim world provoked an uprising. After suffering decades of brutal oppression and witnessing the failures of negotiations, Palestinians united and again rose up against Israels occupation. The Second Intifada culminated in a period of resistance lasting five years and saw Israel respond with bloody violence. The Intifada was launched as disillusion grew among Palestinians while the international community did nothing to stop Israel violating its legal and human rights obligations and expanding its illegal settlements in Palestinian territory. To this day, Palestinians continue to fiercely resist Israels occupation and settler-colonial practices, but the Second Intifada, as a peak of Palestinian resistance and disappointment will always remain one of the strongest reminders of what an anti-colonial struggle looks like. - @redfishstream on Instagram

M2 light tank M2 adalah sebuah tank ringan buatan Amerika Serikat yang dirancang pada tahun 1935. Desain tank ini dikembangkan oleh Rock Island Arsenal sebagai tank pendukung infanteri yang didasari dari prototipe tank T1. Versinya ada M2A1 yang diproduksi 10 unit dilanjutkan M2A2, lalu pada tahun 1938 desain varian M2A3 dikembangkan. Pada tahun 1940, M2A4 memasuki jalur produksi dan pada bulan Maret 1941 produksi dihentikan demi tank M3 Stuart yang lebih baik. M2 sendiri hanya dibuat sebanyak 696 unit saja. Pada tanggal 6 Oktober 1973, ketika pasukan Mesir melintasi Terusan Suez, pasukan Suriah menyerang pasukan Israel melalui dataran tinggi Golan, dengan kekuatan 800 tank, 28.000 infantry, dan 600 buah Artilery melawan 3000 Infantry, 180 tank, dan 11 pucuk artilerry pasukan Israel. Pasukan Suriah mulai memborbadir posisi pasukan Israel yg berada di dataran tinggi Golan. Dan, divisi ke 7, 9, dan 5 pasukan lapis Baja mulai menyerang dataran Tinggi Golan. Dengan mudah, dataran tinggi golan di duduki oleh pasukan Suriah, tetapi pasukan dari divisi ke 5 lapis baja suriah mengalami sedikit kendala, karena terhalang landang ranjau israel di selatan. Pasukan Israel mulai menggerakkan pasukan lapis baja mereka, untuk menghadapi pasukan Suriah. Meskipun jumlah Tank pasukan Israel lebih sedikit, mereka dapat menghancurkan Tank Tank pasukan Suriah lebih banyak, tetapi itupun tidak dapat membuat keadaan lebih baik, karena di selatan, Pasukan dari divisi 5 Lapis baja Suriah hampir menduduki jalur utama menuju kota El Al, dan apabila berhasil diduduki, maka jalan menuju Tel Aviv terbuka lebar bagi Pasukan Suriah, terlebih lagi di utara, pasukan Komando Suriah berhasil menduduki pos pengamatan pasukan Israel di gunung Hermon. Tetapi, pada tanggal 10-11, pasukan lapis baja Cadangan Israel dikerahkan untuk menghadapi pasukan divisi ke 5 pasukan Suriah, dan berhasil menghalau serangan pasukan Suriah. Dan sedikit Fakta, semua pasukan lapis baja di dataran tinggi Golan milik Israel adalah pasukan Cadangan. Pada Tanggal 11 Oktober 1973, Pasukan Israel meluncurkan serangan balasan kepada pasukan Suriah, dan berhasil memukul mundur pasukan Suriah sampai keluar dari dataran tinggi Golan, dan menstabilkan kembali Front Israel. #MeAt20 starting @cambridgeuniversity, which was my first proper full time education as I was in Afghanistan prior to that where schools were destroyed by war and we didnt have the privilege of education. . In this picture, Im looking freshie with oversized second-hand clothes but I was feeling overwhelmed with excitement. . My amazing College @trinityhallcamb and Cambridge University were very supportive during this time when I was drowned in fear, loneliness away from family and anxiety. . Tank AA, 20 mm Quad, Skink was a Canadian self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, developed in 1943–44, in response to a requirement from the First Canadian Army. Due to a lack of threat from the German Luftwaffe, the Skink was cancelled in 1944 after only 3 were built. From 6 February to 11 March 1945, the Skink visited all but one of the Canadian armoured regiments - from Nijmegen to the Cleve area - frequently engaging the German army. All units found it to be a valuable asset but no enemy aircraft presented itself to the Skinks guns and its main function was to flush out stubborn pockets of enemy infantry and force their surrender. The remaining Skink pilots and the completed turrets went into long-term storage in Canada where, at some point, they were scrapped. The real Fury tank of the Korean War Born on Nov. 23, 1919 in Dwight, Nebraska, Ernest Richard Kouma served as a tank commander with the 9th Armored Division during World War II. The division saw heavy action in the Battle of the Bulge. After WW2, Kouma served as part of the occupation force in South Korea and Japan. ⠀⠀⠀ Shortly after the Korean War began in the summer of 1950, Kouma was again sent to the front lines as an M26 Pershing tank commander of Company A, 72nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. His unit was part of the last stand of UN forces at the Pusan Perimeter along the Naktong River in South Korea. ⠀⠀ Near midnight on 31 August 1950, about 500 Communist North Korean troops crossed the river and launched a fierce attack against the infantry positions, inflicting heavy casualties. A withdrawal was ordered and Koumas armored force of two M26 Pershing tanks and two M19 Gun Motor Carriages was given the mission of covering the infantry. ⠀⠀⠀ Manning the M2 Browning .50-caliber machine gun atop the tank, Kouma beat back repeated North Korean attacks across the river. His unit was then ambushed by a group of North Koreans dressed in US military uniforms. Eventually, the other three vehicles withdrew or were neutralized, and Koumas tank was the only one left to defend the fleeing infantry units. ⠀⠀ During one assault, the North Koreans surrounded his tank, he had to fire at point-blank range into the enemy. After the machine gun ran out of ammunition, he used his pistol and grenades to keep the enemy off the tank. After more than nine hours of fierce and close combat, he withdrew his tank to friendly lines; shooting up enemy troops and positions all the way. Wounded twice, Kouma killed an estimated 250 Communist soldiers during his action. ⠀⠀⠀ A seed for the 2014 movie Fury may be found in the saga of Sergeant Kouma. For his actions on August 31 and September 1, 1950, during the Second Battle of Naktong Bulge, he rose to the rank of master sergeant and received the Medal of Honor. On June 5th, 1989 a solitary man with shopping bags in his hands blocked a column of Chinese Army tanks in Tiananmen square Beijing China after the military killed and and injured thousands of unarmed protestors the day before. On June 4, 1989, Chinese troops opened fire on civilians in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square — part of a bloody government crackdown on dissent that killed unknown numbers of unarmed pro-democracy protesters and bystanders throughout the city. The army seemed in complete control. But the next day, something remarkable happened. In an act that would reverberate around the world, a solitary man stood his ground before a column of advancing tanks on Chang’an Boulevard, which runs directly into Tiananmen Square. His identity and his ultimate fate remain a mystery — but his lonely act of defiance, captured by photographers watching nearby, became an icon of the fight for freedom around the globe. The StuG: A new concept in warfare ___ “One of only a handful of the brand new StuG III to see service in the West, this dusty StuG III Ausf. A shows the scars of combat on its frontal armour. By the size of the holes, possibly an anti-tank rifle. Location unknown, May/June 1940. ___ In May of 1940, during Operation ‘Fall Gelb’, a new concept made his debut on the battlefield: The Sturmartillerie (Assault Artillery). The Germans called it the Sturmgeschütz (literally Assault Gun), or StuG for shorts. In its early versions it was designed specifically to help infantry deal with hard points such as bunkers, mg nests and fortified positions. Its low silhouette, 50 mm of frontal armor, and 75mm low velocity gun packing HE rounds made it a formidable opponent against any infantry position. ___ The first StuG to enter combat belonged to 16.Sturmbatterie, assigned to the ‘Großdeutschland’ Infanterie-Regiment. On the 10th of May, at the French village of Villers, 20 miles west from Luxembourg, II.Batallion found the place occupied by French cavalry. The French stood their ground and a heated firefight followed. In the meantime, I.Batallion, with the Sturmbatterie attached, arrived at the scene. The call was heard for the first time: ‘Sturmbatterie to the front!’ ___ The action, partially transcribed: ‘The third platoon dashed forward; its leader, Lt. Franz standing erect in the turret of his command vehicle, followed closely by StuG Nr.5 and 6. The platoon found no resistance until arriving at the center of town where it received heavy mg fire. The platoon leader answered this fire with his MP (machine-pistol). Renault R-35 light tank Renault R-35 adalah sebuah tank ringan Prancis yang dikembangkan pada tahun 1935 dan diproduksi tahun 1936-1940. Tank ini dikembangkan untuk menggantikan tank renault-FT dari era perang dunia 1. Dirancang untuk memungkinkan divisi infanteri standar untuk melakukan taktik infiltrasi senjata gabungan. Tank ini dirancang oleh Louis Renault dari tahun 1934-1935. Pada tanggal 18-25 April 1935 prototipe tank ini diuji. Namun karena ketegangan internasional saat jerman memulai periode persenjataan ulang, apalagi kekhawatiran Renault bahwa saingannya Hotchkiss akan mengungguli prototipe tanknya. Maka tank ini pun segera masuk jalur produksi. Pada tanggal 29 April 1935, 300 tank dipesan militer prancis, namun hanya bagian lambungnya saja yang dibuat. Oleh karena itu pada 4 Juni 1936 tank ini harus diuji kembali.Tank ini banyak dipakai oleh negara lain, termasuk sekutu dan musuh prancis pada perang dunia 2. Bahkan tank ini masih dipakai tentara Suriah pada perang arab-israel 1948. Rumania, Italia, Yugoslavia dan Jerman memakai tank ini. Namun dalam pelayanan bersama jerman tank ini dimodifikasi dengan menggunakan meriam 47mm PAK untuk menggantikan panzerjager 1 dalam peran anti tank. Jerman bahkan menggunakan turret tank ini dalam bagian dari dinding atlantik. “A US paratrooper inspects the impact damage on a knocked-out Sherman Firefly along ‘Hell’s Highway’ during Operation Market Garden, 1944. ___ The Sherman Firefly was a tank used by the United Kingdom and some Commonwealth and Allied armoured formations in the Second World War. It was based on the US M4 Sherman but fitted with the powerful 3-inch (76.2 mm) calibre British 17-pounder anti-tank gun as its main weapon. Originally conceived as a stopgap until future British tank designs came into service, the Sherman Firefly became the most common vehicle mounting the 17-pounder in the war. ___ During the war, the British Army made extensive use of Sherman tanks. Though they expected to have their own tank models developed soon, the previously rejected idea of mounting the 17-pounder in the existing Sherman was eventually accepted, despite initial government resistance. This proved fortunate, as both the Cruiser Mk VIII Challenger and Cruiser Mk VIII Cromwell tank designs experienced difficulties and delays. ___ After the difficult problem of getting such a large gun to fit in the Shermans turret was solved, the Firefly was put into production in early 1944, in time to equip Field Marshal Montgomerys 21st Army Group for the Normandy landings. Istilah ini digunakan oleh militer Jerman saat WW2 untuk menandai tank musuh yang berhasil mereka tawan dan digunakan kembali oleh Jerman. Dalam foto ini, kalian bisa melihat Panzerkampfwagen T-34 747 (r) atau sesuai dengan designasi aslinya, yaitu T-34/76 mod 1942 atau 1943. Bukan Jerman namanya jika tidak melakukan perubahan pada suatu alat perang agar semakin efektif di medan pertempuran. Petinggi militer Jerman seperti Guderian juga kagum dengan tank Soviet yang satu ini. Ia memerintahkan Wehrmacht (AB Jerman) untuk menggunakan kembali sekitar 400 Tank T-34 berbagai model yang berhasil mereka rebut dari Soviet dan menyimpan tank T-34 rusak untuk persediaan suku cadang. Jerman juga menyadari bahwa tank ini sangatlah buta dengan keadaan sekitar karena jarang dilengkapi dengan radio dan memiliki hatch serta cupola dengan visibilitas buruk. Akhirnya Jerman memasang radio komunikasi mereka serta cupola baru untuk posisi commander yang diambil dari tank Panzer III atau Panzer IV yang sudah rusak. Tidak lupa juga, mereka memberikan cat khas Jerman juga Balkenkreuz di bagian turret agar tidak terkena tembakan kawan. Terkadang, swastika juga dipasang di bagian atas tank agar pesawat kawan tidak salah identifikasi dan menyerang mereka. Akhirnya SS Panzer Division juga ikut menggunakan tank ini, tercatat Das Reich dan Totenkopf ikut menggunakan tank T-34 rampasan ini. Ada juga beberapa armored train Jerman yang dilengkapi dengan turret T-34. Intinya sih memanfaatkan apapun yang ada di medan pertempuran. Pictured here is a German Panzer IV ausf. J (🇩🇪 = Panzerkampfwagen IV; 🇬🇧 = Armored Fighting Vehicle IV) with two of its five crew members visible. One of them is holding binoculars and most likely observing the enemy. Behind the tank, there are two Hanomag Sd. Kfz. 251, the most produced German halftrack in World War Two. The vehicles are standing or moving through a forest of birch trees, possibly preparing an ambush. Exact Date and Location unknown. Most likely Soviet Union, Spring/Summer 1942 or 1943. The Panzer IV saw service in all combat theaters involving Germany and was the only German tank to remain in continuous production throughout the war. The Panzer IV was originally designed for infantry support while the similar Panzer III would fight armoured fighting vehicles. However as the Germans faced the formidable T-34, the Panzer IV had more development potential with a larger turret ring to mount more powerful guns and took over the anti-tank role. The Panzer IV received various upgrades and design modifications, intended to counter new threats, extending its service life. Generally, these involved increasing the Panzer IVs armor protection or upgrading its weapons, although during the last months of the war, with Germanys pressing need for rapid replacement of losses, design changes also included simplifications to speed up the manufacturing process. We love to live in peace and enjoy life, while creating and doing good deeds. Those who know my people, know how caring we are and how we like to take care of others. With that being said, today we are forced once again to go into the battlefield and protect our land and our people. We did not want this, and we did not provoke it, but it happened anyway. My people are warriors. Although we never start wars, but we always were the ones who ended wars and this one is going to be no different🔥 I want the world know that we want peace, and right now for that peace theres a very high price thats being paid. We are paying with blood of young men and women. By July 1944 Allied Forces have crossed the Arno River and began the advance on Florence. On the night of 30/31st July 1944, the 22nd Battalion assaulted the village of La Romola, Italy defended by elements of the 15th Grenadier Regiment and a few Tigers of the 3rd Bat., Panzer –Abteilung 508, one of which was knocked out, or broke down, during the battle. To reach its objective, a line cutting the ridge just beyond La Romola, 4 Brigade faced the formidable task of crossing the steep-sided valley of the Sugana stream, into which the enemy had observation and could direct the fire of his artillery, tanks, self-propelled guns, mortars and machine guns from the front and both flanks. The plan for the attack, which was to start at 1 a.m. on 31 July, was that 22 Battalion was to advance under a series of timed artillery concentrations fired by 4 and 6 Field Regiments and 70 and 75 Medium Regiments, and was to have the support of C Squadron of 20 Regiment, 31 Anti-Tank Battery (minus all except one section of its M10s and one troop of its six-pounders, but with a troop of 17-pounders from 34 Battery), 3 MG Company (whose 12 Vickers were to ‘thicken’2 the artillery barrage) and detachments of 6 Field Company. The attack was to be made by 1 Company on the right, 3 on the left and 2 in close support, each with a troop of tanks and a party of sappers. Reconnaissance the previous night below La Romola had found the stream and the sunken lateral road obstacles for tanks, but just before the attack began a report was received that the ‘river crossing was OK’ for tanks. Patrols had been sent out in daylight and at night to investigate reports from civilians that the enemy had evacuated La Romola. These reports were proved false, at the cost of casualties to both patrols. The enemy, brought to the alert by 5 Brigades attack on the flank, filled the Sugana valley with defensive fire. ‘The noise, dust and smoke was terrific and hardly seemed to increase when our own barrage opened up since it had already about reached the ultimate limit.’ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #ww2documents #secondworldwar - @ww2documents on Instagram

The Soviets had very good tanks of their own, but they used western tanks (which they received for free) interchangeably with their own. Usually, each Soviet formation would have either T-34s or Sherman tanks, but they were both classified equally as simply medium tanks.
