Великолепие раскрашенных форм приводит к размышлению об очертаниях, сделанных Матиссом, десятилетием позже. Движения форм отчетливо направлены вверх по обе стороны от центральной оси, проходящей через объект, похожий на книгу, находящийся ближе к верхней части полотна. Вообще, композиция вызывает ощущение некоего внешнего пространства с парящими в нем объектами. MOON SENSE by Julia Preiss (@willebroar) 🤖🌓🧠 — With her prosthetic device she becomes attuned to the direction and phases of the moon. It creates a sense of location and planetary emplacement that is both deeply personal and universal , embedding her body in an environmental force field that moves oceans and controls growth cycles on scales immeasurably larger than the individual. As boundaries between inside and outside, human and planet, are exploded, her work retains a sense of intangibility and mystery. It was a cool day, the sun was hiding behind clouds all day. The kid was Playing with toys and reading. Sergej greeted the man and discussed the type of session to get. He looked at me said “half hour ? Hour?” I answered back prolly a hour. Ee split the session and payed him in euro. We entered the room the floor was black with white lines like a zebra. The walls had foam and there was a small table. Roughly the same size as my 404. While in Berlin visiting Germany i brought a Roland sp 404sx, which is a sampler. I had only owned the 404 for a few months so wasn’t as familiar with it as i am now. I loaded it with bird chirping samples , a couple drums and a few keys. While we played for that hour after a short ten minute set up, we both explored the new atmosphere our layers were creating. I started with 3 layers of (mostly pink) collage, which was covered in a thick layer of paint, dug into, then peeled away to reveal the layers beneath. I wrestled with this piece a lot and it went though several stages and a roller coaster of emotions. But I love how all that struggle shows up like a wall that’s been weathered with time, graffitied over, and weathered some more. The graffitied clouds were just the bold move needed to create a hero for that backdrop. This painting was the third in a series from my workshop with @bibbygart, it is my absolute favorite so far, and is definitely going to inform my future work! After ten years with the festival and seven years as our Festival Producer, Maggie Barton Baird @mbandcompany has decided to transition out of this role to create room for new energy and perspective. We are inspired by her decision and are grateful for this opportunity to make space for IBPOC leadership within our festival and the Canadian arts community. ⠀ ⠀ In her tenure as Festival Producer, Maggie has navigated incredible obstacles including producing the 2015 Festival after the fire that engulfed the Roxy Theatre on 124th Street (the main festival venue); transitioning from former Festival Director, Steve Pirot, to current Festival Director, Ellen Chorley, in 2017; and most recently presenting a completely digital online version of Nextfest this past June. Maggie has been a strong advocate of creating a safe space for community gathering within the festival. She has spearheaded many initiatives to make Nextfest accessible to emerging artists and audiences alike including leading the development of The Nextfest Arts Company’s Safe(r) Spaces Guidelines, engaging with the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing communities of Edmonton through her work with NICA Consolidated, and working diligently to champion community engagement. These two colorful collages are my contributions to the @gatherings_project . I’m grateful and happy that I get to participate in this wonderful project with @laurapmcphee and @judyhaberlart ❤️ I was struck by beautiful, rough yet delicate textures of the Box that @laurapmcphee created. @judyhaberlart ‘s prints are vibrating with movements and I can feel them in my stomach. Last week, four museums in the US and the UK announced they would postpone a traveling Philip Guston exhibition to 2024 due to concerns about the reception of Ku Klux Klan imagery he employed in some works. As the art world debates the decision, were thinking about an essay our January-February 1978 essay, in which @robertasmithnyt addresses what was then the biggest controversy around Gustons work: his shift from abstraction to figuration in the late 1960s. Some may see this as a self-indulgent or regressive move, but in his own reclusive, schizophrenic, fragmented way, Guston is contemporary, Smith writes.
