One of the key aspects for a traveller is the assurance of a clear policy for adventure tourists entering the state during these Covid times. Some mountainous states like Sikkim and other NE States are still inaccessible in these times. Other states have an ambigious policy in place like Uttrakhand & Himachal Pradesh in regard to trekking. After much deliberation we found that only Kashmir had a clear protocol on tourist entry making it the best choice for our trek. A week prior to the start of the trek, all 12 participants and 9 of our support crew in Kashmir had agreed to limited interaction & self isolation. For the comfort of the group all 12 participants on the trek took a Covid test 2 days prior to departure where in all tested negative. All of us used a face mask and a face shield during the flight . On arrival at Srinagar, tourists were required to do a compulsory Rapid Covid Test and within an hour of being tested negative we were free to travel anywhere within Kashmir. By late afternoon we were in Pahalgam and had started our trek to Lidderwat. Two days later we were camped at Tarsar Lake 3780m. We completed our 48 km long trek in the Sind Valley near Sonamarg by crossing the Sonomous Pass. On the trail we met several trekkers predominately from Kashmir and found the area safe and settled from a tourism perspective. I am sharing some images of Kashmir with you and strongly urge you to look at trekking in Kashmir, as its pure paradise. My idea of sharing this background is to echo the sentiment that its now time for us to resume our normal lives by travelling and in doing so support mountain communities which depend on tourism. This can only happen if other mountain states establish clear guidelines for tourists, just like Kashmir has done, and all of us are able to shake the Covid monkey off our back. - @maninder.kohli on Instagram

Currently my main filmmaking inspiration, Alone In The Wilderness. Its a documentary using self filmed footage of Dick Proenneke building a cabin and living off the land in Alaska in the late 1960s. The simplicity of it, the slowness, the narration.. it captures the essence of a life alone in the wild so well. Over the top editing and dramatization does not suit the peace of pure nature well, and its where I see so many modern films about the subject falter so terribly. Alone In The Wilderness goes to no length to dramatize itself, and its what makes it so pure and perfect. ⛰️ AL RESCATE DE LA CAMPANA Es una de las montañas más emblemáticas de la cordillera de la Costa, pero la experiencia de alcanzar su cumbre tiene un aspecto muy negativo: las rocas de la cima están todas rayadas. Sin embargo, un inédito proyecto de limpieza y restauración está en marcha para solucionarlo. Impulsado por la Fundación Andestrek @fundacionande con el apoyo de la Escuela de Ingeniería en Medio Ambiente de la Universidad de Valparaíso, Conaf y Sernatur, el proyecto Por una cumbre sin graffiti: Rescate en La Campana @limpiezalacampana busca remover los rayados de la cumbre que se han ido acumulando durante décadas. Tras aprobarse una experiencia piloto que se realizó en 2017, la iniciativa fue finalmente autorizada por Conaf el 21 de julio de este año, y ahora espera reunir el financiamiento necesario para comenzar, si todo avanza según lo planeado, a partir de marzo próximo. En un área de unos 4.500 metros cuadrados hay más de 300 rayados en las rocas. Algunos son antiguos —hay nombres tallados en las piedras con fecha 1884— y otros recientes, pintados con látex, óleo y hasta corrector líquido y esmalte de uñas. “Cuando yo subí por primera vez en los 70, ya estaba rayado, dice Marcos Liberona, fundador de la Fundación Andestrek y gestor de la campaña. Es muy decepcionante. Se ha rayado por casi nueve décadas, y hay tallados aún más antiguos, según las fechas escritas. Ocurre que a través de toda la ascensión vas observando un paisaje hermoso, lleno de bosques, pero cuando vas llegando a la cumbre y comienzas a ver los Andes al fondo, aparecen esta piedras con nombres que parecen lápidas de cementerio. He visto a turistas extranjeros que quedan sumamente impactados. La alteración visual es como una bofetada”. While our remote facilities, generally provide ample space and limited public interaction, we our stepping up our cleaning efforts in the midst of this situation. Currently there is little evidence that indicates the coronavirus can survive in outside elements. Nevertheless, we continue to clean each tub after every use with a strong bleach solution. We will disinfect all portable toilets daily. We have just completed deep cleaning in all the rooms, houses and common areas. Additionally we are disinfecting all surfaces and linens after each use and common areas continually. We hope these further cleaning processes with ease concerns. This situation is fluid and we will reassess our procedures and operations as conditions warrant. We understand everyone is in a different place when it comes to this situation. However, we would like to reiterate that the director of the CDC stated that the risk is low and encouraged people to go about their life with a common sense approach. Au sommet de la Punta Basei, Parc national du Gran Paradiso. Hier on vous montrait une photo des lacs durant la montée et aujourdhui place à une petite galerie du sommet 😍 Des beaux points de vue dans les Alpes on en a déjà vu plein, mais je crois bien que celui-ci rentre aisément dans notre top 3 des plus beaux! La Punta Basei est un sommet à 3328m et comme il est relativement isolé on a une vue incroyable à 360°. Depuis là-haut on a bien évidemment le grand paradis et ses 4061m face à nous mais on aperçoit également très bien limpressionnant Mont Blanc et tout son massif 🤩 La particularité de cette rando? Elle est vraiment accessible! Seule une partie de la montée depuis le col du Nivolet est un peu raide (mais équipée de câbles) mais tout le reste est vraiment facile! Les 30 derniers mètres jusquau sommet sont plus sport dirons-nous et tiennent davantage de la petite via ferrata que de la rando...
