Patty used to sing in a girl band in the ’80s, and I was a BIG fan. Dancing and singing in my room, in front of the mirror, playing Dolly Dots songs on my record player, one of my favorites, ”Shes A Liar,” an unforgettable period of my life. . After I grew older, and The Dolly Dots stopped performing, Patty made a move from singing to styling. She presented several television programs and worked for Dutch magazines as a fashion stylist. Somehow Ive always had a weakness for her energetic appearance and smile, and she hasnt changed much over the years. She is still that same but slightly older ”Dolly Dot” I admired so much when I was a teen. . Antes del Covid, cuándo todo era posible 😬🥺 teníamos un plan muy chiva. Las alarmas se iban a vender en un supermercado por todo el país y los brazaletes en ferias de empresas pero por las mismas víctimas de violencia o las chicas en riesgo social, que necesitan un empujoncito. Los contactos con Asociaciones Solodaristas los tenemos, hicimos 500 brazaletes para iniciar, conseguimos voluntarios para el curso de finanzas básicas para ellas y desarrollamos el taller de emprendimiento. Empoderar a mujeres financieramente es una necesidad. Luego llegó el Covid y nos toca simplemente Adaptarnos y Ajustarnos. Las necesidades no disminuyen, cada día aumentan sin duda, hoy el desempleo por los cielos, los recibos, el alquiler y todo lo demás que ya sabemos pero lo que nos parte el alma son los niños, los hijos de esas mujeres que hoy van a clases virtuales sin compu 🙄🤦🏽♀️ y que no tienen internet en la casa. ¿De donde? Cinque anni di università in cui ho imparato tanto, soprattutto a credere un po’ di più in me stessa e ad essere determinata nel raggiungere ció che volevo. In HS, I ended up skipping a grade and also graduated at the top of my class. The first pic is me standing with fellow National Honor Society members. Plot twist: I was also pregnant. Yeah, I was a teenage mom. I remember my mom crying when she found out. Teachers probing while I uncomfortably sat and wanted to get on with the lesson. Being told my life was over. “You had so much potential.” The words stung, but I was also protected by my 6’ thick wall of naivety. “Ill be fine, I’ll do it all.” Leo was born, and the whirlwind began. Even with the complete financial support of my family, I still felt like I could barely keep up. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. The constant night waking. The recovery from the trauma my body went through. The doctors appointments and paperwork. The chores. Before I knew it, two weeks later, college began and my scholarships did not allow for a break. At seventeen years old, I left my newborn and some milk with my mom and commuted to college, guessing where to park, struggling to read maps to find my building, constantly checking my class schedule that a brother helped me create. On day one, I remember finally finding my class and seeing a guy with all his books. I asked him how he knew what books to buy. He replied a little bit incredulously, “We got the email with the book list.” I didn’t even know I was supposed to have an email by then, much less how to set it up. I was dreadfully ill-prepared and way too embarrassed to say anything else so I didn’t ask for help and just thought I’ll figure it out later. Somehow, though, I got by. Failure was not an option. I barely slept. I was a new mom and wife during the day, and while the babe was sleeping, I did my homework and read. I didn’t have time to feel sorry for myself. I didn’t have time to reflect. At some point, I found myself with 3 low wage jobs still in college full time as a single mom. I was a cashier, teller, and tutor and I’ve included photos of that. Rough patch for sure. It sucked.. it felt like quick sand. I pushed forward with school even though it felt like forever. Four years later, I graduated on Mother’s Day. - @moonlitliz on Instagram

Discovering the orgin of this challenge today made me reflect a lot on my maternal heritage. I am 1/4 Turkish/Sephardic. My mother recently told me how my great grandmother traveled alone with her young kids to escape persecution. This brave woman taught her daughter in law, my maternal Nona to cook gourmet Turkish recipes, my Nona taught me and inspired my passion for food. I feel so blessed today to have been able to start and continue to run a women owned food business and to raise two powerful girls. (Amalia’s tiny and mighty). I cry with gratitude for their sacrifices and tears of sadness for the many women who’s voices and dreams are not heard due to oppression and violence. Les voy contar una historia media personal y disculpen si me pongo media latera. Hace diez años atrás, tenía el miedo de que no volvería a ver a mi mamá de nuevo, ya que hace sólo unas semanas atrás, le habían diagnosticado un cáncer de mama con micro metástasis. Fueron ocho horas de operación.Hacían 32 grados esa tarde de sábado y mi única manera de no dejar consumir por la ansiedad y la pena era ver videos en YouTube. La operación fue un éxito, pero era el comienzo del camino de mi mamá. Faltaba la quimioterapia, la que por lejos es lo fuerte que le tocó y tuvo la fuerza de sobrevivir a esa experiencia tan desgarradora. Pérdida de pelo, vómitos y la baja de glóbulos blancos son un efecto de este tratamiento que parece que en cada ciclo es una prueba, como las de Hércules. Luego, pasó a los rayos, para eliminar cualquier rastro de la ramificación de la enfermedad. Ahí, mi mamá pudo compartir con otras mujeres y se dio cuenta de lo afortunada que era, ya que las que venían del sistema público tenían las venas quemadas y los doctores no les daban el mismo cariño. La desigualdad era notoria (y esta sigue así). Ya para el año 2014, se declaró que mi mamá estaba libre de cáncer y en su cumpleaños (que está en los días de fiestas patrias) fuimos a Las Cruces a recorrer con la familia. Lo curioso, nos topamos con Nicanor Parra, quien paseaba con su hija y una empleada. Paramos el auto y el viejo se escondió en su casa. Él año siguiente, uno de los escritores favoritos de mi mamá, Pedro Lemebel, muere en el quinto aniversario de la operación ¿La causa de muerte? Un cáncer de laringe. Y tres años después, un 23 de enero de 2018, cuando empecé la práctica en un diario muy reconocido del país (y conocí gente bella), don Nicanor muere. Y hace un año, al mismo tiempo que unas amigas cercanas defendían, ocurrió una gran protesta en Venezuela y hoy fallece Armando Uribe. No se porque el 23 de enero resultó ser para mi una fecha con tantos acontecimientos.Que las coincidencias sean tan grandes que no pueda olvidar que este día no puede ser importante. The passing of time - 7 years gone ❤️ I started writing a book with my mum in 2006 and ever since her death I have felt compelled to honour what we started together. For her. My mum always said she wanted to write her memoir titled My Personal Everest. It’s now 2020, she’s been gone 7 years and I feel like this book has turned into MY own personal Everest! I’m at a crossroads with it - I honestly don’t know whether to keep going or just draw a line under it and walk away. It’s not been an easy thing to write, it won’t be an easy thing to read. The darkest most crazy bipolar moments are not light hearted, no matter how much I enjoy dark humour. Some of the words are bleak, my mum writing at her worst moments. But that’s not how I want her to be remembered - its not what I want people to know about her. I want people to know she was so much fun, so incredibly kind and the most loving soul you could ever meet. She had a wicked laugh and a smile that softened the coldest hearts. Mis hijos han pasado meses enteros en Margarita hurgando en todos los caminos y hoy comparten cada uno de sus recorridos con absoluta generosidad. Además te dan una guía en PDF para cuando hagas tu viaje por tu cuenta. Conocen y quieren tanto a Margarita que para allá se van a mudar. 𝐓𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐠𝐚 🧠🧠 A los 8 años me diagnosticaron una enfermedad neurológica y fui medicada de por vida con calmantes, ya que para la ciencia no tenía cura. En una parte de mi cerebro había un aumento de la actividad eléctrica que desencadenaba a convulsiones y movimientos involuntarios (Durante 14 años seguidos vivi miles de ataques en mi cuerpo, tan horribles que cuando volvía en sí, no podía creer que seguía viva) . . Sentí que no tenía opción. Los médicos no me daban ni una esperanza, y yo no quería seguir viviendo de esa manera. Y me enfrente a esa enfermedad con uñas y dientes .!No tenía nada que perder!! . . Como ya conocía todos los síntomas en mi cuerpo, yo ya sabía cuándo me iba a agarrar una convulsión y me preparaba para enfrentarla. ¿Cómo? Con todas mis fuerzas empece a ignorar esos síntomas y cuando sentía que mi cuerpo se movía involuntariamente, hacía que mi mente se concentrara en otra cosa. Tenia que hacer qur pensara e hiciera algo totalmente distinto a lo que estaba sintiendo, asi hasta que mi mente se resignara y dejara los síntomas de un lado para concentrarse en lo que yo le pedia que se concentrara. . . Asi, poco a poco fueron disminuyendo los ataques epilépticos. Muchas veces lo lograba y otras no. Pero nunca deje de intentarlo, y asi, hasta que los ataques nunca mas lograron dominarme. Ya hace doce años que no tengo ni un ataque epiléptico, pude hacer todas las cosas que no me animé a hacer por causa de la enfermedad y hoy puedo decir que me curé. Porque le dije a mi mente cual es la forma en la que quiero vivir. . . . Nosotros somos los responsables de enseñarle a nuestra mente como queremos vivir y ella lo hace.
