What an amazing gift it is to have been surrounded and assisted by supportive and kind people from the very start of trying to form an identity in the music world. For a long time I have taken this for granted. It would be another decade before I would encounter the industry/business world of music with my bandmates in Hop Along; until then, it was the encouragement and attention of family members, friends, even acquaintances who gave me the equipment to believe that releasing my own music made any sense at all. In my freshman year at MICA I lived with 3 imaginative, funny and brilliant young women, whose presence drove and inspired me. My cousins, who are sisters and strange like me, wrote and visited me and were also fantastic inspiration. That year I wrote more songs than I think I have at any other time in my life. It was just such an exciting shock, to be so far from home and meet so many creative people, at that formative age of 18. In 2005 I “released freshman year on burned white CDRs that I stamped with a linoleum cut image of a silhouetted goose wearing a crown. The stamp was an illegible blob, so I painted onto each CD with a little brush. My cousins helped me cut and glue the sleeves for these CDs, a couple of nights before I had to drive back to Baltimore to start my sophomore year of school. A lot of people have helped me, and continue to do so. The building and terrible rage that surrounds us now is making me comprehend and wonder at all of the generous individuals and communities that I have met. Too many to name here. I will try to correct this. To celebrate this anniversary, freshman year is now streaming on DSPs for the first time ever. Tomorrow, Ill be playing a live mini set on this Insta page, at 6 pm EST/ 3 pm PST. Ive also released an EP of 3 new tracks on Bandcamp; entitled more songs from 2005. All proceeds made from Bandcamp purchases today will go to @dopepeopledoingdopethings - a non-profit that works to assist and strengthen Philadelphia’s communities. La Fornace Penna è un monumento di archeologia industriale e si trova in contrada Pisciotto a Sampieri, frazione del comune di Scicli in provincia di Ragusa. La Fornace Penna fu realizzata tra il 1909 ed il 1912 su progetto dellingegnere Ignazio Emmolo, che si laureò in matematica a Catania e in ingegneria civile a Napoli nel 1895. Creando la società con lappoggio del barone Guglielmo Penna, scelse il sito di Punta Pisciotto a ridosso del mare, per i seguenti motivi: * il fondale sufficientemente profondo da consentire lattracco delle navi, * la presenza della ferrovia, * la vicina cava di argilla, a circa 200 metri, per la materia prima, * la disponibilità di abbondante acqua da una sorgente carsica locale. Lo stabilimento produceva laterizi che venivano esportati in molti paesi mediterranei: gran parte di Tripoli (Libia) dopo la guerra del 1911 fu costruita con laterizi del Pisciotto . Si lavorava dalla sei del mattino sino allimbrunire, da maggio a settembre; con le prime piogge la Fornace Penna veniva chiusa. Vi hanno trovato occupazione un centinaio di operai in età compresa tra i 16 e i 18 anni. Cinematography department behind the scenes of the @cleanbandit + @mabel video (dir. @jack_fdt @lukepatterson). DP @edgardubrovskiy Focus puller @alibainesfilm Gaffer @dompalgan Grip Danny Laviada Had a week of prep. Having certain constraints (height of the set vs the available studios, the background behind the set needing to be dark, certain grip gear not avail), I’ve decided to 3D pre-viz some of the key setups using CineDesigner. Max Strauch production designer modelled the set and I put it inside the studio using correct measurements. This gave us options to play around with angles, see how long the track and jib we need (as well as the correct size of the carpet:)) The main overhead boxes were 20x12 (one full one half grid - went for thicker diffusion for the talent-facing). There were 7x Sky Panel S60 in each (went for the SPs, as needed a colour temperature change in shot). Then the same two boxes were used to light the “rooms” setups (@gracechatto playing cello and in popcorn bath, Luke in drum room and Jack on keyboards). @dompalgan came up with the neat idea to use same boxes, as @twickenhamstudios has railing system, we swung both boxes in real quick. The “room” setups had additional lamps like SP60s to backlight and 5K to throw a shape on the wall plus some @asteraofficial uplighting the cello setup’s background. +a lovely 1K jemball. Danny Noinstagram Laviada the grip went with Fisher 10 dolly + fisher 23 job arm and a mini scorpio EZ head. Shot on @arri Alexa Mini with @leica_camera Summilux lenses. Answering questions: Time to shoot this? And what time the day starts? We had 8h pre-light day and then 16h day to shoot and 4h next morning to PU a couple shots. Call times were 7:15am. Use the same rental for everything? Camera and grip came from @panavisionofficial (again, thanks @george_rumsey) and lighting was supplied by @prolightlondon. Who keeps track of equipment and makes sure nothing is lost? Nobody. Jokes. Its a mix of focus puller + 2nd ac for camera, grip for grip and gaffer for the lights. Its a team-work, while I try not to lose my jacket and the bag on every location. How many coffes to you average on a 16h music video? 4. - @edgardubrovskiy on Instagram
