Seniors ROCK. Seriously, they do. As you can imagine for seniors, living through the pandemic has been extremely difficult. Now imagine, you’re a senior and you don’t have any family. Isolation, fear and anxiety are a few words to that come to mind. So today, we painted rocks. We painted them bold, beautiful and with encouraging words to help lift the spirits of the seniors at @stpaulspace. We have had many events on-site at multiple St. Paul’s locations and the experience was tremendous for both children and adults. Due to covid, we weren’t able to be on-site, so we painted the rocks at Balboa Park and shared with our kids who we would be delivering them to. There is always an opportunity to give back and showing your children the important role community service plays in your life is something that can’t be taught in school. The world needs more empathy and compassion and it starts with us! Started the day today trying to find some new boulders but unfortunately failed on that. Decided to call it early and made it out to Apache Canyon by 4. Had a solid afternoon checking out this area for the first time. 1. Walk the Line v9 - Hard punch at the start with a tall and slightly heady finish. Also managed to linkup this same start into the boulder to the right of the start, not sure if this is an FA but go get it if you’re bored out at Apache and need a new one to try (similar grade) 🤘🏼 2. Hello Panda v6 - Managed a flash of this classic. 3. The senses have become full and over stimulated . Ever arrive at that point where you feel your senses are out of control ? . Over the last 4 weeks I have been committed to dropping sugar and anything processed . It has not been an easy journey . I have been through many diets before . In fact the base of most diets don’t eliminate sugar somewhat partially . I have more clarity now . I see this as an addiction and when we don’t get our fix we become grumpy , mad , irritated and uncomfortable states or sensations arise. The biggest thing I have recognized is how the ego/mind organizes its whole life around getting its fix . Even at the detriment of our health . TAKING BACK YOUR POWER as the Self is well worth it . I realize this is only early days still however the route through to changing the way our system converts energy into fuel is now accessible . Once you realize that you fall asleep through sense gratification and continue in loops of suffering due to this , you can then begin to recognize that these harmful processes are taking place . See from the formless awareness that you are not your ego / mind playing out through a person or personal drama . Yet you are the Self the universal consciousness , continue to confirm this TRUTH . Today was a day out at the beach thanks to my dear friends @taha_1986 and @naveera_f That was the good part! Now I shall move on to the not so good part. What and how has Karachi come to a point where going to the beach becomes an ordeal because there are NO roads at some points of the route. Why do people of this amazing city have to live with this? I know Im not the first to point this out BUT today was supposedly a normal day as there hasnt been any substantial rain fall in the past week or so. It took us three and a half hours to reach the place we had booked. It baffles me as to how the people havent come out on the streets and grabbed the rulers by their necks. The Pakistan coast line deserves clean beaches, resorts, restaurants and proper roads leading up to them! If there are magnificent roads leading into the mountains of this country then there need to be roads leading to the beaches as well. We deserve better, Karachi deserves better! Pakistan Zindabad. i like being happy as much as i like being sad. my goal isn’t happiness. my goal is to be present in each moment because that’s when i feel the most alive. working in a hospital, or any space where you are around people, can bring about all kinds of emotions if you let them in. someone is frustrated and crying, it’s much easier to tell them it’s gonna be alright rather than sit next to them and feel sad knowing it might not be. it’s a choice i make: to block out the feelings and energies of other people because i am busy trying to manage my own life. but when i block out any kind of emotion or energy, even if it‘s negative, i am not fully present in that moment. i am not experiencing—only observing. there are some emotions people want to avoid entirely, like sadness and anger. sometimes we don’t realize that we are angry. my experiences of feeling angry and even experiencing another person’s anger are not good memories, it’s something i don’t like feeling. overtime, we learn how to rid ourselves of these bad feelings by avoiding them, not acknowledging them, and certainly not confronting them. when we numb ourselves to anger or sadness, whether it is ours or someone else’s, we numb ourselves to feeling the remainder of the emotional spectrum, including happiness. we might feel a little bit happy, but it doesn’t quite feel like the happy that is buried deep inside. now and again, i choose to make company with what is uncomfortable, and that has enabled me to feel as much as i feel in this moment - @kraytopia on Instagram

When life gives you lemons, you gotta make lemon drizzle cake! Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to live outdoors, off-grid with no internet, no electricity and no running water. The #vanlife indeed. @roundtheworlddrummer was really starting to miss having a drum kit, we always make sure she has one while were on the road else she gets a little tetchy. Thanks to @pearlsvintage in downtown Squamish and their amazing used items, shes able to hook up to our solar power and Bose speaker (also from Pearls) and jam until the BC sun sets over the surrounding mountains. We chose not to move into a house share or a hostel during the pandemic for many reasons, but mostly to boost: Our health Our immune system Our mental well being Our fitness Our outdoorsy skills Our artistic skills Our creativity After starving ourselves of access to the internet in the evenings, we have: Learned the guitar Learned ukulele Learning the harmonica Become poi masters Learning the levi-wand Started hula hooping Written a memoir Written a series of short stories and screenplays We always strive to challenge ourselves and we have noticed so much growth already, one example being a whole new appreciation for running water! The bruises, mosquito scars and overall filth have aided a spiritual growth. One thing I try to do every weekend is to spend some time doing a physical activity outside 🌞. Whether that’s playing basketball, tennis, hiking, or paddle boarding 🏄🏽♀️ I try to make sure that I get at least a few hours a week exercising outdoors. It has improved my overall mood, mental health, and physical health tremendously. ☺️ This past weekend I hiked a little over 11 miles. While I used to hike most weekends in the past when I was in undergraduate, I hadn’t gone in a few months. After this hike I was INCREDIBLY sore and I couldn’t figure out why. At the gym, I use the stair master, I have great stamina/endurance, and my legs/core are strong through resistance training. What I forgot is that hiking focuses on balance exercises that some resistance machines and gym exercises tend to forget. 🙅🏽♀️While hiking, you are constantly balancing on loose rocks, dirt, boulders, and other things you might find on the trail. ⛰ Hiking worked out muscles that I tend to skip over through balancing and stabilization mechanics. So remember that while the gym can give you a great workout, try to diversify your physical activity. You might be missing muscle groups that you never thought of! On this day..... On June 10 1692, Bridget Bishop, the first person to be tried in court on charges of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials, was executed at Proctor’s Ledge. Her body was placed in a crevice at Proctor’s Ledge as witches could not have a proper burial. Bridget was arrested and examined on April 19 and was held for trial. On June 2, she was tried and convicted of witchcraft. Her execution was 8 days later. Bridget was any easy target for accusation as she had a undesirable past, including a previous accusation for witchcraft (for which she was acquitted). The many accusations against her included the murder of her two previous husbands, men who did construction work to her basement found poppets in the walls, she bewitched the Shattuck’s son who became ill, the stealing of various items including a mill brass, having her imps harass her neighbor, and the sight of Bridget flying over her own orchard, among many other charges. Ten neighbors testified against her at her trial. Bridget is often confused for Sarah Bishop as they were both married to men called Edward Bishop. Bridget lived in Salem Town and owned an orchard. Daisy is one lucky dog! ❤️🐕 ~ She fell into a gap between boulders at a beach in Denmark but was rescued by Denmark Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service. ~ Heres how they said the rescue unfolded: ~ Well today we got to meet Daisy, Daisy and her humans were holidaying in Denmark and decided a trip to burn off some steam at the local dog beach would be a good idea. ~ Ever the adventurer, Daisy decided she would do some rock hopping but not being as young as she used to be found out that this gap was just too much for her and managed to fall down about three metres into a gap about 400/500mm wide. ~ Her humans tried to get her out but just didnt have access to anything to do it safely so they called the awesome rangers from the Shire of Denmark who quickly realised some more help was needed and asked the owner to call @dfes_wa and thats how we met Daisy. ~ We had to think a bit differently for this one and because of the nature of the task we had to keep everyone safe, not to mention keeping Daisy safe so to assist us we called Claudia from Denmark Vet Hospital & Paws Surgery Services to come out and provide us some advice. ~ Overall it took crews about an hour and a half to gain access and help get Daisy out of her pickle and off to continue her adventures! ~ Remember we dont just fight fires we are here to help when we can and we love our doggos too! ~ 📷 Denmark Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service. ~ #dog #dogs #dogrescue #rescuedog #rescueddog #pet #pets #doglovers #firefighters #firies #searchandrescue #doglife #dogsofinstagram #doggies #dogscorner #animalwelfare #denmarkwa #searchandrescuedog - @abcperth on Instagram

McKay Lake Nature Park ... I posted last week about a fun nature-themed playground we visited. Well, there are nature-themed playgrounds and then there are NATURE playgrounds and McKay Lake Park is definitely one that should be on every nature-loving kid’s list! ... This playground has all the things you’d expect- climbing obstacles, slides, tunnels, swings, and bridges- but it’s all built out of natural elements! Our kids were super obsessed with being prairie dogs in “tunnel land” and kept running from there, to the slides built on the side of the hills, to the “beaver dam” climbing structure, to the rope bridges, to the boulders, to the log steps built into the side of the hill, to the sand pit. There’s a fitness loop if you’d like to get a little exercise in, a small pump track for little bike riders a larger bike park for more advanced riders, and a loop trail around the lake (1.6 miles) with a little dock to walk on. ... We love checking out all these great play areas! On Wednesday we finally signed the final documents on our house!! Now we’re just waiting for the loan to fund, and in theory we should be able to go and get our keys today. Sure hope so, because we have a moving truck and lots of friends and family coming to help us move tomorrow morning!!! Also hoping to take our two dogs to the house today to visit. Parents, we have the good news you’ve been waiting for! The State released guidance yesterday allowing outdoor playgrounds to reopen with modifications. You will see our staff taking down tape, disinfecting the playgrounds, and putting up signage with State guidance today. We are excited to have you back! 🤸👏🤩🥳🤸♂️ We know many of you want to return to Adventure Playground, and we look to have that open by this weekend. More details to come. Per the State, playground visitors must comply with specific guidelines including wearing masks (for anyone over age 2) and maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet apart.
