Today we’re brewing the newest addition to our tea lineup: UNSMOKED LAPSANG✨ Lapsang Souchong is a popular black tea from the Wuyi mountains of Fujian. This small leaf (小种) “xiao zhong” cultivar is fully oxidized and usually smoked with pinewood. Our Lapsang is grown in the central “Zheng Yan” (正岩) Wuyi mountain region. Nowadays there’s a lot of tea brought into Wuyi from surrounding areas and sold as “Wuyi tea”, but only Zheng Yan tea trees can qualify as a legitimate Yan Cha, Lapsang, or Jin Jun Mei. There’s a few characteristics that you can mimic during tea processing, but you just can’t recreate that unique microclimate and rocky soil conditions found within Wuyishan! With this in mind, we decided to keep our Lapsang unsmoked to retain and highlight those subtle flavors + Yan Yun mouthfeel of the tea. - Enjoying this Shēng Pu Erh from Wu Liang mountains. It comes from 2018, still very refreshing. Made with material from 200 year old tea trees. The elevation is around 2200 meters (7200 ft). Delicous!
