This very large lightning strike illuminates the ground like daylight, looks like it is striking a telephone pole. Old capture but have had lightning on the mind. This capture was taken last year and was a last minute late night run. I actually did not know we had lightning in the area but was going for a couple hours. Jumped in my truck at about 1130pm on a work night had headed to Torrance beach. By definition, Ive never considered myself an alcoholic. I mean, I was never dependent on it and I never felt like I needed it, which means Im good, right? Well, thats what I told myself, at least. Turns out I had a different kind of problem. It actually wasnt much of an issue in my 20s and early 30s when SSRIs sapped my emotions. However, since ditching antidepressants a few years ago, Ive found my passion again. Thing is, like driving, big passion and large amounts of alcohol dont mix! Its somewhat ironic how the same person who at 16 recognized that cocaine would probably take over/possibly ruin his life and vowed never to allow it in my system, missed and dismissed the warning signs of a different substance. But I did. And have made more than a few regrettable choices liquored up this year. So, I finally made a great decision last Thursday to permanently eliminate booze from my life. Yeah, of course there was an episode last week which prompted this epiphany. Maybe one day youll hear about all my personal battles this year. Things happen for a reason, though. It was nothing more than a crutch for my weak moments. And once I thought about it, it wasnt a difficult choice once I asked myself to name one good thing which came from drinking. I couldnt come up with a single answer except vague good times with friends stuff. Fortunately, Im a lot of fun already and dont need any liquid courage to get out of my comfort zone! My problem doesnt apply to most of you. Plenty of people are totally fine having a couple to a few drinks on occasion... But that was something my all or nothing attitude couldnt comprehend. For me, its no longer worth the risk of losing control of myself if I happened to be in a certain mood or upset. It was so easy to abuse and my shut off valve frequently malfunctioned. It is what it is. I dont know why Im sharing this other than to hold myself accountable. And maybe to give someone else out there a bit of perspective or hope. If youve found yourself embarrassed by your actions or know you intentionally consume too much alcohol, youre not alone! The hard part is admitting it. Le trépied à peine posé, au bout de 3 déclenchement, booooooom, limpact tombe dans lenceinte de la centrale nucléaire, juste derrière les grandes tours de refroidissement qui font plus de 165 mètres de haut. Cette centrale nucléaire est en service depuis 1988-1989, pour une puissance totale de 2620 MW. What a crazy Friday night this past weekend! Me and Matt ended up going into southeastern Minnesota hoping to get some midnight supercells. After getting on some earlier storms that were heading into Iowa, we decide to try our luck on a new cluster forming near the South Dakota border. While getting into position we ended up getting stopped by the police, but that proved to be the pivotal moment in catching this bolt, as we decided to reverse course and setup in this wind turbine farm on a more southerly cluster. Sure enough, it took off and dropped quite a few CG’s within a couple of miles of us. Was definitely worth pulling an all nighter! Best part of all? Who saw the (shock)ingly rare Bay Area thunderstorm this weekend? 😜✋🏻 It had this Midwest guy feeling right at home. Share your story in the comments! @noahfrenchmustard and I saw this rolling in over the ocean Saturday night while up on a ridge at Big Sur. We were planning on shooting the Perseids meteor shower that night, but seeing this storm was jaw dropping and we quickly pulled out our zoom lenses before packing up to dodge the rain Turns out its hard to zoom in on a storm thats a few miles away when its pitch black, getting this in frame involved tons of trial and error while slowly zooming in. The shot is a composite of two 2 minute exposures capturing multiple lightning strikes in each. I hadnt shot lightning before this night, and now Im hooked What made the moment truly spectacular though was how the Milky Way was directly above the storm clouds. Je cadre seulement les éoliennes en face de moi, sur ma droite, Yannick cadre des éoliennes à 2-3 kilomètres de notre position. Sur cet impulsion dimpact il en tombera 13 canals, la plupart sont des ascendants dont celui qui est à 75 mètres de nous sur larroseur entre nous et léolienne, il passe ensuite entre les deux pales de la première éoliennes. 8 éoliennes se feront foudroyés en même temps, dont 6 sur celle que @chasseur_dorages_lyonnais cadré avec son appareil photo sur notre droite. Je vous invite à aller voir sa photo. 13 canals en même temps, cest totalement dingue, sans compter ceux qui sont tombés où nos appareils nétait pas orientés... 2 décroissance en chapelet sur les deux éoliennes avec moins de précision. Cette photo à été prise seulement 5 minutes et 12 secondes après la première éolienne foudroyé juste devant nous...
