Three years ago I was on the way back from one of the most epic road trips in my life. We drove more than 4,000 miles from the Mexican border in San Diego to the Canadian border in Montana. During this time I experimented with perspective and some photos were good ... others were absolutely terrible. The important thing though was that this wasnt a sponsored trip so I had the time to be creative and try new things. Exploring new perspectives is critical and I encourage everyone to take a break, try something new, explore options, challenge what they see as normal and create new ways of looking at the world. For instance, this photo of Yaquina Head Lighthouse I took from the mound of grass in the middle of the parking area while everyone else took photos at eye level as they walked towards the lighthouse. Instead of an image filled with people, I was able to create my own experience of solitude and beauty that makes me want to go back there again. Try this with your own life too. After I spent a few hours taking firefly photos, I knew had had some time to squeeze in a few Milky Way shots. I made it just in time before it sank below the horizon. I was trying to find a good composition and I saw the sign. A few test shots later, and the firefly just sealed the deal.
