This is an additional 10 to the 8 already closed on Monday afternoon. Please steer clear of forest roads and highways to allow access for our first responders. Please keep all of these heros and their safety in your thoughts and prayers. 🙏 VALLEJO, Calif., September 9, 2020 – Due to unprecedented and historic fire conditions throughout the state, the USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region is announcing a temporary closure of an additional ten National Forests, meaning all eighteen National Forests in California are now closed. The closure of the additional ten forests will be effective at 5:00 pm today. These additional forests include the Eldorado National Forest, Klamath National Forest, Lassen National Forest, Mendocino National Forest, Modoc National Forest, Six Rivers National Forest, Plumas National Forest, Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Tahoe National Forest, and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. This decision will be re-evaluated daily as conditions change. We had closed eight National Forests on Monday evening, Sept. 7, 2020. Explosive growth of fires throughout California during the day and late evening of Sept. 8th led to this updated decision. “The number of large fires and extreme fire behavior we are seeing across the State is historic, said Regional Forester Randy Moore. In a culture obsessed with “self care and self love” we often don’t realize that self loathing is another form of self love, from a biblical perspective. Women, we’re marketing and groomed to hate ourselves the second we’re old enough to watch a princess movie. We’re not skinny enough, our hair isn’t great, my clothes aren’t cool, you fill in the blank. The reasons self care, self love, & self help are so marketable is because WE FOCUS ON WHAT WE HATE about ourselves. We think that by working on portions of ourselves little by little that we’ll achieve happiness, only to find ourselves disappointed or distracted by the next fad. The common denominator in the love/hate battle is IDOLATRY of SELF. Scripture says that *no one* ever hated his own body, instead he nourishes and cherishes it (Eph.5:29). And you might be thinking, “well no, that’s not me? I’ve starved it. I’ve cut it. I’ve tried to kill it. I’ve put drugs in it, etc. I don’t cherish my body?” EVERYTHING WE DO for our body is to escape some sort of pain, fulfill a need, feel an emotion, etc. All of this is acting out to make our bodies or minds comfortable in some way. If we’re so inward focused that we can’t see past our own misery then we haven’t focused very much on Christ and His enoughness to fill these holes that only He can fill. The word of God says in Luke 9:23-24 “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” It also says in Romans 8:8 “that those who are in the flesh CANNOT please God.” The truth is, the more we focus on ourselves the more miserable we will be. True Joy, fulfillment, and healing comes from following Christ. We cannot serve two masters. We can’t be slaves to ourselves and slaves to Christ. Choose Christ, trust upon His finished work on the cross as payment for your sin debt and LIVE! Be like the prison guard, who instead of falling on his sword, fell on HIS KNEES and said “Lord what must I do to be saved!?” Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. I’d rather be flying. Another day, another “procedure.” Yesterday I saw a new part of the PennState Hospital system and a new (to me) procedure. The cancer and its treatment included a plethora of side effects. The chemo drugs and the stem cell transplant have brought a compromised immune system that has led to numerous infections. An open wound on my chest has failed to heal for more than a year and a recent MRI and CT scan have indicated a bone infection on my clavicle, the nearby sternum, and possibly a nearby rib. This deeper infection could explain part of my chronic pain. The procedure today is an X-ray guided bone biopsy. The X-ray machine helps the radiologist guide the biopsy needle more accurately to avoid damage to surrounding “parts,” under the direction of a thoracic surgeon. It’s a complex, busy part of my anatomy that has failed to respond to previous, externally focused treatments of the wound at the Ephrata Wound Center. The biopsy is needed (desired) by the infectious disease physician to obtain a culture of the infected area to help narrow the course of treatment, as opposed to a broad spectrum antibiotic. In other words, targeted therapy. These trips to the hospital wear me out, though the actual procedure was not as bad as expected. Developed an arch with ZERO arch support. 2. My toes have spread allowing for natural arch formation. 3. Anterior pelvic tilt (butt sticking out) has immensely gone down by removing elevation of the shoe. 4. Knee cave in due to foot pronation (flat feet) has gone away and my bodies ability to use my hips and foot for functional movement has increased. 5. Deep squat hip pain has been largely reduced. 6. Propioception has largely increased allowing for conscious heel striking and awareness of walking habits. 7. 💀Forensic Friday💀 Public health! Nail salons. Nail technicians in the USA are licensed. They legally have to have formal education and pass a state board of licensure to work on people. This licensure is set up to educate the technician about the dangers of the chemicals they are working with and injuries they can accidentally inflict with their tools. With a change in protocol due to the current pandemic, accidents are bound to happen because what has worked in the past is different. 💅🏻This patient is a 10 year old child. She was in quarantine with her family for months, and her mother decided to take her to the nail salon to get them out of the house. This is something they have done many times in the past, but now due to new sanitary guidelines, this time was different. When they arrived to the nail salon, they were met with plexiglass. The stations were sanitized and they were also instructed to sanitize their hands prior to getting work done. The 10 year old was given a gel manicure which includes using special polishes that get cured with a UV light. Gel polish should not be applied to children for several reasons, and this nail salon should have never performed it. Within hours of her manicure, her hands were red (photo 4) and over the course of the next couple days they progressed to the burns you see (photo 1). She was brought to the doctor and diagnosed with 2nd degree burns. Her doctor thinks the burns occurred because of a combination of hand sanitizer, acetone, UV lights, and counter sanitizer. Her mother did contact the nail salon who blamed the nail tech for “leaving her under the UV lights too long.” This child was severely injured just trying to get her nails painted. A team is a powerful thing. At the time I am writing this, over 1.7 million people pledged to Run with Maud today. It was an honor, and honestly pretty emotional for me to lead this live event at 6am for @myopenfit . And it was so inspiring to see so Openfit Teammates from all over the country run to show they care. A few hours later, I did the run myself while @j.go22 led the charge. Even more teammates and love and inspiration shared. As challenged by Jo, I even did the 26 burpees I would have had Ahmaud do if he had come to my class today. I kinda hate running, but Ahmaud Arbery loved it so today I ran for him. Every human on this earth deserves to run in safety, without fear. It takes a special to Live with me. Repost from @kishme04 • People assume a lot about my fiancé @davidgoggins & always ask me what is it REALLY like to live with him? Well, here goes..... First, that picture... can you imagine what he has done to have feet that look like that? His daily routine is a mind-numbing, monotonous grind EVERY SINGLE DAY! No matter the weather, travel schedule, business obligations, etc., I know there are certain things that are a given in EVERY 24-hour period- running no less than 10 miles each day, gym work, and at least 2 hours of stretching. At a minimum, that accounts for 4 hours each day but in reality is usually more like 6 hours as the 2-hour stretch often runs closer to 3 and the runs are 2 hours min each day. The alarm is set for the same time everyday, the protein drink is the exact same everyday, the journaling each night, etc. The monotony is REAL! If it weren’t for me, I am not sure David would even know what is happening in the world let alone on social media. Actually, I am not sure he even knows how to access social media on his Android! He rarely has his phone which leads to countless missed calls and unread texts. One guess who they reach out to trying to find him & confirm he is still alive??!! I don’t think he is even remotely impressed when I tell him how many weeks his life story has been sitting on the bestseller lists. Holidays come and go as if they are any other day on the calendar. The things that move or excite most people don’t seem to even register or matter to him yet he is more content and has more peace in his life than anyone else I know. He wants for nothing and doesn’t spend time worrying about what other people think about him. While the lack of excitement can be off-putting to some, I know it is becuz he is still working everyday to find more of & better himself. It is a never-ending journey for him & exhausting to watch from the sidelines. To know that there is no day off- EVER... what a mind fuck! He goes at it alone, day after day, week after week, etc. While it sounds horribly boring and mundane to most, he embraces it! A 2nd update on Downtown Burlington and the future of Kellys Bake Shoppe. . There is more. I’m stepping up higher and higher. 🙏🏻 . It appears my video yesterday on Kellys Bake Shoppe FB (now on Youtube too) caused a ruckus - for the good and for the, well,...the few that dont particularly like me nor do they like that I stood up and delegated against the over-intensification of Downtown Burlington. . I got a couple of very angry messages to stop what Im doing. (Why?! I can’t leave things in the darkness. My job is to flush them out into the light✨). I am clearly trying to let the truth get out and let people know that Kellys Bake Shoppe is not closing its doors in Burlington and moving to Toronto. We are not ever going to leave Burlington. . What started all of this was a wonderful woman who came to me this week and told me that a mayor candidate had told her our business was closing and moving to Toronto. She said, “Is it true?” 😢 That there has been an awful rumour spread by this particular person (Burlington Mayor candidate) and made it part of his platform. Stating that Kellys Bake Shoppe is moving to Toronto and that there is nothing more to discuss with this. That he couldnt do anything about it....What else is important to you in Burlington? How can I get your vote? (In other words “move on” as this “problem” is not a valid platform issue so let’s discuss other issues). 😳 . This particular statement gutted her daughter, a 7 year old little girl, that stated to the mayoral candidate that all she wanted was to, “save Kellys Bake Shoppe. . RIP My Friend We lost a great one today. Dan was one of the hardest working guys I knew, I think that’s probably what made us click so well. There was never favor I asked for which he wasn’t willing to lend a hand. He was a great friend. If any ever needed anything from Dan, you could be sure he’d have a comment, that most might not want to hear, but you could count on him. There wasn’t an event catered, a repair made, a trip traveled that Dan didn’t have a part in. He was always there. A middle of the night phone call because we “needed drinks from 335, driven 2 hrs to wherever we were, he’d be there in an 1.5. He did things the right way, not the easy way. He loved Mt.Dew. He loved cookies, candy, anything sweet. Oat Tart, yes please. He loved to have his hand in the kitchen. He did what it took to make every event a success. If you’ve had the chance to experience something I’ve done, then you have experienced a piece of Dan as well. He left us way too soon and will forever be missed. Do you have a great idea? or a goal you want to work towards to? ⁣ ⁣ Everyone has amazing ideas and if everyone will have a blueprint on how to execute them the world would probably be a better place. I am guilty for talking about doing something and never going through with it.⁣ ⁣ Usually what most people fail in (Including me) is getting started. This happens mainly because you dont know how right? ⁣ ⁣ Finding or expecting the perfect moment to do something, waiting for you to have enough knowledge, or enough resources, or money are just excuses we put ourselves because we dont truly believe we are capable of doing it.⁣ ⁣ When deep inside you believe you CAN, you will do it. I struggle with this often and it is ok. What I have learned however is that I have to start. ⁣ ⁣ Here are some of my examples of things I said to myself I wanted to do and started⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ A nutrition coaching program - I literally registered a business known as Vive Nutrition, Inc when I was getting my masters now knowing one thing about running a business⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ Creating video projects to hopefully sell in the future - I started by dedicating hours to editing ONE travel video I could feel proud of⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣ Waking up at 4AM every morning. More people have died in Orange County Sheriff’s Department-run jails this year than in any of the last four years — and not from the coronavirus. Annual in-custody deaths had been declining since 2016 and 2017 in which 11 people each died, respectively. Twelve people have died in jails this year so far, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
