This is long overdue, but I wanted to take a moment to thank a bunch of really amazing people. Since March, one way I’ve managed to stay sane (especially during quarantine) is through an assortment of fitness classes and routines, so keep me both physically and mentally healthy. And as best I can tell, it has worked, and I feel about as good a scant four days before I turn 33 as I have in as long as I can remember!! So, shoutouts are in order. First, to my friend (and onetime Birthright participant!) @reikilove. Since March, Amanda has taught a near-daily kickboxing class for her “beautiful people”. I pretty much set my weekly life schedule around her classes. Speaking of friends with daily classes, @thehealthtender is a miraculous human/flamingo, who has provided amazing programming to the industry community and our friends. She is now one of the few friends whose number I know offhand, because it’s also her zoom ID! When I got my quarantine kettlebell (thanks @marcmiller1980 for that hookup!), I needed someone to show me how to play with it. For that, I have to thank my friend @avafagin , the newest addition to my weekly routine! She gets my Sunday morning kicked into gear with heavy things before we both watch our respective NFL teams do poorly... With theaters closed, I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved @justinaercole ‘s classes, because of you can’t see a show, you might as well be in one! Justina has cardio, barre, core and stretching classes with incredible musical themes, that can’t help but put a smile on my face. Speaking of musical, sometimes you just really need to dance to Britney Spears. For that, I have to thank @kasewalk , the closest thing to Britney out there!! I’m still bummed I missed her Kesha class, so hopefully she does another for me :) Finally, and most importantly, I have to thank one man in particular: The Godfather himself, Hector Guadalupe. You’ve probably heard me talk about @asecondufoundation , or seen my posts, but long story short, they’re using fitness to save lives and change the world. Another amazing testimonial from my first Client in our PRIME program! We just started year 2 of training and I cannot wait to see the progress keep rolling! “I joined ITF in 2014 because I wanted to get in better shape. Fast forward 5 years and 2 children by c-section and getting in shape starts to look a little different—I had specific goals. The regular classes were helping, but not as quickly as I would have liked, so when they announced Prime I thought “Sure...I’ll try it for 6 weeks.” It’s now almost 1 year later and I just signed up for another full year of Prime coaching. The workouts are tough but they are laser focused to move me toward the goals that I’ve set and tailored to my fitness level (as I improve the workouts change to reflect that!) The combination of strategic programming and adaptability has led to some pretty awesome results and at a faster pace than I was seeing without Prime! I started out back squatting about 145lbs and in January set a goal to back squat 200lbs–6mo later and I just hit 205. I wanted to do pull ups and after ~8 weeks of focused training I got my first strict pull up and am now working on doing them in workouts (while fatigued.) I wanted to get better at double unders, and 3 months later (even through the quarantine) I’m able to consistently do DUs even during a Met-con. Getting the results that I want at a pace that keeps me motivated, and with a coach who is just as invested as I am has been worth every penny.” - @irontribehwd on Instagram

Three Big Things: Upon returning to the gym, even if its outdoor, I have run into a few challenges in the past week as a Coach and a Leader of Coaches. This morning I woke up and realized that no matter what difficulties I face in this business and industry I have got to remember to do the following: -Be Grateful: I have to remember I have my health (minus a DVT in the left calf), I have a job, and I have support from a wife, family, and friends. There are so many things to bitch and complain about in 2020, but at the end of the day I have got to remember to be grateful for the things I have in life. Good vibes only-- too much hate in this world to be ungrateful for what we have. -Check Your Ego: This comes down to the way I carry myself at work as well as during my own time, especially during workouts. Jumping back into a job and the gym after 6 months is challenging and can break you mentally and physically. Remember to slow down and think things out before doing-- even if that means regressing your movements. -Find Balance: Last week 65 hours of work and barely 49 hours of sleep was not balance. In fact, it was more detrimental to my day to day living than anything. As much as we want to do everything we can in 24 hours, we need to remind ourselves that we are human and to live a healthy life you need to balance things out. Even if that means sacrificing certain activities in your day and week to do so. Also, its ok to turn things off when you go home-- like work and your cell phone. I know my wife would appreciate it more if I can find balance with work and life in these coming days and weeks-- I owe that to her with the amount of times I have driven her crazy during our countys lockdown. Final note: health and fitness is more than repping out on the squat rack or hitting your macros daily.
