For the third edition of Unseen (2014) we commissioned artist Lorenzo Vitturi who made a series of works exclusively for Unseen. Actually he made just one image but captured his entire process towards the ‘end sculpture’, an autonomous piece. It’s my favorite day of the year! (Yes, I know I have an irrational love for my birthday for someone my age.) My celebration this year was a little different - as times demand. On Saturday, we had a socially distanced “party” in our backyard - 35 people who came to workout with @marcusmcg1 of @dandifitness and @martesse of @brwl.official for almost two hours on behalf of @isaiahhouseeastorange Together we sweated and smiled and waved and mimed hugs - and also raised more than $5200 for the homeless shelter and social-services provider that is doing so much to help the most vulnerable residents of Essex County in this moment when so many are homeless, facing possible eviction and dealing with profound food insecurity. Besides my family and friends and my work, exercising and serving others have gotten me through these past six months and I’m so grateful to have been able to mark my birthday in this way. We’ve all had New York and Neapolitan style - but have you had ever had Detroit-style?! @powpizzayyc l is literally a hidden gem of a place, just off 16th Ave (close to Peter’s). We had the wagyu-beef pepperoni, and the mortadella-pistachio; those pies didn’t stand a chance😍. They’re filling, but not heavy, and the crunchy bits of cheese on the edges make for an additive pizza. Check these guys out for a new take on your usual pizzas, you won’t be disappointed and we’re already planning our next trip back! It was a nice change as we have been regularly going for thin-crust. After high school I moved to Brisbane to study at Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA), and later I did one year with Ochre Contemporary Dance in Western Australia before moving to Sydney where I joined Bangarra Dance Theatre. The first thing I had to overcome to start loving myself and living my best life was my mind. I delt with self esteem and confidence issues well into my 40s, and truth be told, I still have days when I have to pull myself from the trenches. . But don’t assume that gaining high self-confidence in any particular area is going to automatically lead to feeling better about yourself. Improving your self-esteem involves working on self-acceptance and self-love as opposed to constantly trying to fix yourself by working on what you can do better.  . The terms self-confidence and self-esteem are often used together. However, from my experience, they are different. Confidence is a measure of faith in one’s own abilities; self-esteem is about ones sense of self that involves both thoughts and emotions. Over two weeks late. But here my race recap for @taraweraultramarathon 100 mile race. My first miler and it looked like it might be my last 😂😭 . . . The beginnings were somewhat fine Serene scenes and a big lake I ran for 99km. 11 hours. Then the problems stacked I should have ended it there Coz I suffered and died The next 15 shattered my spirit I retired from running on the spot Never doing this again, I confessed But they’re waiting for me, I was reminded I ran less and thought more One aid station at a time That’s all I need to do Yet I tripped and fell Every time I left a part of me there Lying on the ground My soul tore, stuck in hell That’s right. F* running. I am no runner no more I walked and I crawled And I sprawled all over the floor I was in the jungle with the wrong attitude Alone, crying in solitude Lacking food, cursing rocks and roots Legs so sore, it’d have hurt less To cut them off But, the terrain transformed And for some reason I begun to run Like I was back in my prime Faces so familiar appeared A hallucination or reality For some reason I was happy But the good times are always short lived The pains returned, with more intensity As the sun set and darkness arose My mind turned evil, I froze Shivering I proceeded Guided by a friend, my pacer sometimes spoke I heard little, some wise words I followed along, so long It was bed time Sing me a lullaby I closed my eyes I had tried But this is it When I finish, it’s gonna be over Forever. Goodbye cruel life I will find another hobby A leisurely activity Many silent voices filled with infinite choices I had crumbled Broken I stumbled on I had lost my ways The final check point was where I needed to be That was where I may be lifted 200 m to go These signs were a blessing But I needed more I got six more souls Seven angels carried me home. 📣Diástasis . 👉🏼No es cuestión de la separación, sino de la calidad del tejido. . ▪️La diástasis es una lesión que ocurre cuando los músculos rectos del abdomen (los cuadraditos) se separan en exceso y se daña el tejido conectivo que los envuelve. . ▪️Este tejido se puede lesionar, al igual que los demás, cuando se supera el límite de tensión que puede soportar, igual que ocurre con los músculos. Cuando hay presencia de una diástasis hablamos de una lesión de esta fascia que une a nuestros músculos, no de una lesión muscular. . ▪️Tener una diástasis significa que ante cualquier movimiento o esfuerzo con el abdomen se produce una fuga de energía en la pared abdominal (ese bulto o abombamiento abdominal). Esto conlleva que la capacidad para soportar la presión, la carga de movimiento y la fuerza no será óptima. . ¿Qué ocurre si tengo diástasis? . ▫️Esto va a depender mucho del tipo de diástasis que tengas. Existen diferentes tipos de diástasis. Unas muy grandes a lo ancho, pero poco profundas. Otras muy profundas, pero más cortitas a lo ancho. Unas por encima del ombligo, otras por debajo… En resumen, depende de por dónde y cuánto se haya lesionado el tejido conectivo, la diástasis puede generar un tipo de síntomas u otros. . ▫️Tener una diástasis no es una contraindicación para entrenar, sino todo lo contrario. Ahora bien, debes ponerte siempre en manos de especialistas en la materia.
