I was 9 months pregnant and I decided to deliver on the 7th of May. As a protocol, I got the COVID test done and as luck would have it, I was tested positive. Within the next couple of hours, I was moved to the isolation ward, leaving my daughter behind. I had never slept away from her for even a single night before. There were multiple questions to be answered because the situation was fairly new to almost everyone. We were all trying to figure out how would a COVID delivery happen and what happens to the new born. I was told that I will be isolated for 14 days and I’d get to see the baby once I test negative. Hell broke on me, my brain froze and my heart sank. My family is into pharmaceuticals and my cousin is the CEO of a leading online healthcare platform, so I believed that I had a fair chance of getting the best treatment around and still this was it. The isolation ward was no less than a jail. It felt alone, hot and scary. There was food, there was tea, a jug to fill water in but none of it helped making things better and easier. The same evening when I was admitted, I learnt that the lab I got tested had a history of false reports, and that was my ray of hope. On 6th May, I got tested again, knowing that the previous report was wrong and I was tested negative. I needed 2 negatives to get out of this place that was eating me up, I couldn’t think of anyone but my daughter. The next negative report came in on 7th evening, by this time I would’ve been home with my new born, here I was standing in the isolation ward, crying my heart out to the blank walls and the virus filled sanitised room. God alone knows why this happened but it happened to me and got me to realise how thankless we are, for the blessings and comforts we have and the people who are with us. First we had @rikkwright and her incredible film “A Song About Love” (2019) Second, and now showing, is @cliffordprinceking ‘s “Growing Each Day” (2019) Third will be my installation film “Flesh to Spirit” (2019) And last will be @earbugs Syd Canty’s film “5 Things I Know For Sure” which is their first film that they actually made in 2 days during a video art practicum that I instructed at @calarts . Ever since society’s respective shut down, I have been constantly reminded of the importance of community. Our presence is vital and this series is a representation of that notion. Films for isolation includes time-based works of four Black queer artists and their exploration of the self as it is perceived internally. “When people first meet me, one of the most common assumptions made is that I was the popular girl in school, which is fair enough considering Im a model, but this couldnt be further from the truth. When I shifted to an international school in the 9th grade, I decided that a new school meant a new me. But new me also came with the new exciting world of dating boys. As exciting as this was, it came with a lot of backlash from the other girls in my class who called me a slut and all kinds of names on facebook, and this was just the beginning. Rumours began to spread through the international school community in Bangalore. At one point I had absolute strangers calling me on the phone just so they could call me whatever new name they had decided on that day. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and was prescribed antidepressants and sleep medication when I was 15. My therapist would laugh saying I was simply seeking attention, and my school counselor did more harm than good. After a point, I started believing what people said and began to feel disgusted with myself. I resented looking at my reflection in the mirror. So one day, I covered my mirror with masking tape and wrote words to remind myself that I was intelligent, beautiful and more than what people and society told me I was. I moved to Bombay for a fresh start when I was 20. My parents were convinced I would come running home because I had no money, no experience of living on my own, and was couch surfing at friends homes to begin with. I got a full time job as a music producers assistant, and in my spare time I experimented with modelling and adverts for almost three years before I got the Sabyasachi campaign. My past fueled me to prove something to myself -- now the people who were the most cruel to me, speak to me with nothing but praises and compliments. None of my clients are told by strangers that they look great or perfect. It’s always “wow, you look like you’re ready to pop” or “are you sure you’re not having twins?” Or maybe even the anxiety inducing “you’re so small” that makes my petite clients feel like maybe their baby isn’t growing properly. Let me tell you a big or small appearing belly rarely correlates with a big or small baby. Most babies are just average as are most people who are gestating them. Há 4 meses estava a entrar em trabalho de parto, ainda sem saber se me seria permitido ter acompanhante no parto - neste caso o pai da bebé. Foram 9 meses a falarmos sobre o dia em que a íamos conhecer, a perguntarmo-nos como é que ela seria, como seria a nossa reação e eu, enquanto grávida de primeira viagem, a perguntar-me, nervosa, como seria o meu parto. Tive 32h em trabalho de parto, por isso tivemos tempo de fazer o teste covid, receber os resultados (negativos) e ir para um hospital que nos recebeu aos dois, sem nos separar em momento algum. Foi um direito deixado à mercê da sorte, do acaso, do privilégio - que felizmente tivemos. Passei por um trabalho de parto difícil, com uma bebé em posição posterior e que, mais à frente, entrou em sofrimento fetal. Mas foi um trabalho de parto feliz, muito graças à presença do meu marido, que ficou acordado mais de 30h, tal como eu, a apoiar-me, abraçar-me, massajar-me e a fazer parte de cada contração e emoção. Hoje recordamos os dois com ternura o primeiro momento em que vimos a nossa bebé e ela nos viu a nós - um mesmo momento para os 3 porque... tivemos sorte. Ter acompanhante no parto não é um capricho, um luxo ou uma mariquice. Nem é um favor que nos fazem. O parto não é um procedimento médico em que importa apenas o bebé sair do corpo da grávida - mecanicamente, muitas vezes. O parto representa um nascimento mas também um renascimento da mulher e daquela família. Marca o início de uma nova vivência e pode ser um evento de elevado impacto na saúde mental da mulher. Mulher essa que será o colo de um novo ser, um ser dependente, frágil e carente. Passaram 6 meses desde que a pandemia entrou em força em Portugal, o medo se instalou e a escassez de recursos também. Hoje, podes festejar com amigos, ir ao shopping, jantar fora, ir ao cinema, tudo com quem quiseres. A economia não pode ser prejudicada. Mas, ou a sorte está do teu lado, ou terás de parir sozinha (ou lidar sozinha com a perda de um bebé). O que importam os direitos da grávida? @curl_pal . . .always in love 😍😍 . This was such a super quick wash day with leave in conditioner and Gel.. . I could literally dry my hair 90% in about 2.5 hours.. . This has been the fastest and even after using good amount of leave in and gel.. . I also scrunched them with microfiber towel and diffused for about 15 mins and air dried rest.. . And done..😎😎 . I used ashbabotanics Rightringlets leave in conditioner and Gel.. one of my fav combo. . This leave in works for me like a light weight cream but adds such good moisture.. and gel never ever makes curls dry.. . Also this combo works so good in all seasons 😎 . Time to Deep Condition is a luxury that I no longer have.⁣ What Ive been doing is very simple.⁣ Life is about adapting and finding ways to make things work.⁣ ⁣ When the Curl garden looks and feels dryer than usual, I leave the deep conditioner in.⁣ I make sure that I use a deep conditioner that doesnt feel solid in the hand, to avoid limpness.⁣ ⁣ There are two ways to go about this:⁣ ⁣ 1 • Cleanse, detangle and add the deep treatment as you would add a conditioner.⁣ Dont rinse it.⁣ Just leave it to air dry, then rinse and style another day.⁣ ⁣ 2 • Cleanse, detangle and add the deep treatment as you would add a conditioner.⁣ Either dont rinse it or rinse partially, then style and dry as normal.⁣ ⁣ Both ways work well to soften the hair and add extra nourishment.⁣ ⁣ These results were option number 2, using the Clever Curl Treatment.⁣ It feels like a more concentrated version of a conditioner, which is great. I left it in and styled as normal. I dont follow any strict routines in terms of timeframe.
