Major throwback to my ss18 collection. This piece is one I am so proud of! The morning of this shoot, I was almost thrown off! I had made a lovely black top to be worn underneath this suit and all of a sudden that morning, it was gone! Till today, that black top is yet to be seen, RIP black top. I looked for it for an hour, all hands were on deck to find that top but it had vanished. Well, the show had to go on, so I got a make shift camisole for her to wear underneath the suit. It’s safe to say that the pictures did come out alright. It was a wonderful day... at the end of it, I had to take days of rest cos I was so tired! Whoever took that black top though... Meet todays #PrismaHealthHero. Chris Patterson, a nurse in the Internal Medicine Center, is celebrating 48 years of service. She is committed every day to her life’s work and “calling” of being a nurse. “When I lay my head down to sleep at night, I want to know that what I did that day helped someone who needed me.” Chris started her career as a certified nurse aide of behavioral care patients before coming to Richland Memorial Hospital, now Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in 1972, as a licensed practical nurse. She went back to USC to become an RN in 1977. She spent 30 years helping patients after surgical procedures in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) before coming to internal medicine. Her role has taken a few turns but now she is a telephone triage nurse directing patient’s care. “Every day is different. We don’t have any idea what our patients may need help with that day. It can be anything from helping with prescription refills to recommending an immediate visit to the Emergency Department.” Chris, a Christian, is active in her church and its missionary society, she smiled and said, “I tell the others in the group that I do my missionary work every day.” She is proud to serve. Chris also is proud of her family life including her 44-year marriage to Straywell Patterson, their three children, four grandchildren, and three great grands. As an Eau Claire community native, Chris has given a lifetime of service to her community. She has been in her professional nursing sorority, Chi Eta Phi for 34 years. She was recently awarded a 50-year nursing pioneer award. I don’t like to post too many personal things but I feel compelled to share this miracle with you. The woman I’m embracing in this photo is my mother . This past weekend we celebrated her bday and my brother, whom we hadn’t seen in five years, flew home to surprise her. She was in tears and thought that it was just for her bday. We gathered together and had a game night Friday (9/07/18) and on top of my brother showing up my aunt and uncle drove from Gainesville to be a part of the festivities. Towards the end of the night my brother-in-law brought everyone together to give a speech. This day 10 years ago was the last time my mom used a controlled substance. When my sister called her and told her she was pregnant my mom gave it all up. Her baby was having a baby and she said fuck you to that life style. Growing up with a parent(s) dealing with any kind of drug is hard. We went thru all kinds of emotions because in or minds we thought , if she loves me she wouldn’t do this, if she loves me she’d stop and just be my strong mom I know she is, if she loves me she’ll get help. It took for us to understand that it was more than a drug, it’s addiction, it’s a disease and the only thing we can do is continue to love her and help her fight in any way we can. My mom struggled for years but we celebrated 10 years of her being clean and this hug, this photo that I’m posting is to share my story, our story. I had no idea when I was writing Things Fall Apart whether it would even be accepted or published. All of this was new—there was nothing by which I could gauge how it was going to be received. But, of course, something doesnt continue to surprise you every day. After a while I began to understand why the book had resonance. I began to understand my history even better. It wasnt as if when I wrote it I was an expert in the history of the world. I was a very young man. I knew I had a story, but how it fit into the story of the world—I really had no sense of that. Its meaning for my Igbo people was clear to me, but I didnt know how other people elsewhere would respond to it. Did it have any meaning or resonance for them? I realized that it did when, to give you just one example, the whole class of a girls college in South Korea wrote to me, and each one expressed an opinion about the book. And then I learned something, which was that they had a history that was similar to the story of Things Fall Apart—the history of colonization. This I didnt know before. Their colonizer was Japan. So these people across the waters were able to relate to the story of dispossession in Africa. People from different parts of the world can respond to the same story, if it says something to them about their own history and their own experience. - @chinuaachebe on Instagram

Mr. Willie Pickens. Master pianist, composer, and educator. One of the greatest! Tough on his pupils but, showed a lot of love. Came up in a time where he could not vote, walk through the front door and such. Passionate about knowing your history, in and outside of the music. Despite not being able to pay him, he gave me a couple of free lessons right before Oberlin. That’s the type of man he was. I don’t take students really. I know that I could never teach the way he did. I’m a horrible teacher. Sincere apologies to those who have studied with me in the past lol. I love y’all. TEXT PULLED FROM: ’A Historiography on Fatima Bernawi and the African Palestinians of the Old City’ by @_garden_of_edan / Edan Mehretu Tessema Part 2/2 - At the age of nine, Fatima Bernawi and her mother were among the 700,000 Palestinians to be displaced in 1948, becoming refugees in Jordan where they would live in separation from her father, who stayed in Jerusalem, for several years before returning to Palestine. She would point to the injustices her family faced as being made refugees, as well as her experiences with the Israeli occupation as a youth in Jerusalem, when recalling the frustrations which led to her becoming a member of Fatah. Soon after she joined Fatah, Bernawi organized a paramilitary operation in West Jerusalem in October of 1967 and became one of the first female political prisoners to be arrested following the start of the 1967 occupation. - Why would I need to hesitate? Aren’t I being occupied?’ Bernawi once told an interviewer of Pal Media who questioned how gender would inform her role in the movement. ‘Bernawi explained that her father easily understood her decision because he too left his home behind in his youth as a result of colonialism and had similarly taken up resistance later in his life against the injustices of a burgeoning Israeli settler-colonialism.’ - Bernawi asserts that her status as a woman was no deterrent to her taking up arms against the Israeli occupation as a fedayee or freedom fighter. Her commitment was shared with other female Palestinian figures at the time such as Laila Khaled, as well as both Rasmeah and Eisheh Odeh from the Ramallah-Bireh area. These women would share a significant bond and place in history as the first four women to take up armed struggle for a liberated Palestine. The meeting was our Church(God will do it Ministries) annual convention and the year was 2013. Bishop Wale Oke who was one of our guests and was concluding his ministration. The brother playing the keyboard stood up and I sat to just play as God’s servant requested for those who wanted to support the meeting financially to come forward. While that was going on, he suddenly stopped abruptly and turned to face me on the keyboard and further began slowly approaching me. I noticed and kept head faced down, heart racing and head wondering. What exactly is about to happen? Did I play rubbish?, I thought. Lol Anyway, he got to me and put his handkerchief on my head and the following words came forth; The mantle of David is coming upon you now. The lord will give you songs in the night, songs that will bring healing, deliverance and revival, songs that will change the world. The rest is history. 12 months after, this prophecy began to come to pass. Even now, I believe this prophecy is still just beginning to come to pass. He recently came back to volunteer as speed and agility coach Andrew Delva last season for the 2019 season. “His role grew as he worked with the Defensive backs and Wide Receivers and the players grew to love coach Gabe. So much that after practice players would stay and get extra work. He was putting so much time as a coach learning he was destined to be a great coach.
