A more perfect illustration of juxtaposition, there could never be, Than that of my favourite building, and the fear that lives in me. I fear a life of crisp straight lines, A life by rules and uniformity designed. Conformity enforced, a rigid acceptance criteria, The doctrines of one look, one behaviour, one thought, nothing could be scarier. My favourite building is, and you can definitely see, a clear juxtaposition of that which brings fear in me. Unique it is every way, no line can be found, in its neighbourhood it definitely sings its own sound. It speak to freedom of expression, to curves and free flow, It speaks to beauty and individuality, inspiration all will will know. The contrast profound to that which I fear, Tho opposite to my nightmares, the distinctions are clear. A bright coloured building with many shapes and forms, Breaking perceptions in its beauty defying accepted norms. Individual and unique, not governed by era or previous design. It stands for life in variety, unparalleled freedom defined. So what do you fear, what drives you to hide? What makes your world, a place in which you cannot abide? Somewhere out there, there is a voice to combat your fear. Someone, something that will comfort you and inspire you, my dear. Whatever you face, that seems to much to bare, There is a remedy, a tale, an inspiration out there. So when your fears have you whipped and confined to a cell, Remember its opposite and into it face date and yell. 🇮🇹 Qual è l’origine della Villa Pinciana e dei suoi tesori? Abbagliati da tanta bellezza, scopriamo che essa fu creata per stupire ed essere ammirata, per ricreare l’animo dei suoi visitatori. Scipione Borghese dedicò le sue migliori energie alla realizzazione della Villa, destinata alla magnifica collezione di sculture. Accumulò con determinazione opere d’arte dei grandi artisti del tempo e del passato, per acquisto diretto o con mezzi più disinvolti, come il sequestro, la minaccia, il furto. Non mancò di essere abile mecenate e protettore di pittori e scultori che, come nel caso illustre di Bernini, diedero avvio a una nuova pagina dell’arte proprio in casa Borghese. Nel Settecento, la villa conobbe quella veste spettacolare di cui ancora oggi possiamo godere, con gli apparati decorativi voluti dal principe Marcantonio IV. Dopo la sua morte, il figlio Camillo vendette, malauguratamente, al cognato Napoleone più di 500 straordinarie sculture antiche, ma acquisì alcuni veri capolavori, come l’immortale ritratto della sposa Paolina. ◆◆◆ 🌐 What is the origin of the Villa Pinciana and its treasures? Dazzled by such beauty, we learn that it was created to amaze and to be admired, to regenerate the spirit of visitors. Scipione Borghese devoted his best energies to the realization of the Villa, destined to hold the magnificent collection of sculptures. With great determination he accumulated works by the great artists of the time and of the past, either buying them directly or through more unscrupulous means such as confiscation, threats and theft. He was however also an able patron and protector of painters and sculptors, which, as in the illustrious case of Bernini, gave rise to a new chapter in art in the Borghese household itself. In the eighteenth century, the villa assumed the magnificent guise that can still be admired today, with the decorative schemes created at the wishes of Prince Marcantonio IV. After his death, his son Camillo unfortunately sold more than 500 extraordinary antique sculptures to his brother-in-law Napoleon, but also bought some true masterpieces, such as the immortal portrait of his bride Pauline. ph. В восемь лет его представили Павлу V.. Тогда же у него появился первый покровитель, кардинал Шипионе Боргезе. Для Боргезе молодой Бернини сделал прославившие его работы: «Похищение Прозерпины», «Давид», «Аполлон и Дафна». Ему тогда было чуть больше двадцати лет. ⠀ Бернини страстно верил в Бога. Его религиозное благоговение отразилось и в работах для Ватикана, и в интерьерах собора Святого Петра. Джан Лоренцо был главным архитектором собора 40 лет, и Александр VII как-то пошутил: «Если вынести из собора всё, что сделал кавалер Бернини, там останутся только голые стены». Бернини говорил, что ему знакомы моменты творческих божественных откровений. Алтарную группу для церкви Санта-Мария-делла-Виттория «Экстаз святой Терезы», он считал лучшей своей работой. Возможно потому, что ему удалось передать момент духовного озарения. ⠀ В молодости Бернини считал, что единственная его любовь — скульптура. Но амур настиг и его — Бернини влюбился в Констанцу Буонарелли. В ее каменном — портрете душа и страсть. Когда Бернини узнал, что у Констанцы роман с его братом, он послал слугу изуродовать лицо девушки, а брата чуть не убил. ⠀ Театр — еще одна страсть Бернини. Он строил гигантские конструкции для театральных представлений на площадях, придумывал хитрые декорации с разными источниками света и костюмы. Даже его скульптуры были как стоп-кадр театральной постановки. ⠀ В 1665 году Людовик XIV пригласил Бернини во Францию для завершения работ в Лувре, но ни один проект архитектора во Франции не утвердили. Остался лишь знаменитый бюст короля Людовика XIV. According to #legend, one day the #Devil let his #imps out to play and two of them found their way to #Lincoln. One headed into the #Cathedral and began to cause chaos; tipping up furniture, teasing the choir and vergers, even knocking over the Bishop. As the imp started to break the windows, an #angel called upon him to cease, but the imp took no notice, cheekily calling out “Stop me if you can!” But ultimately good triumphed over evil; As the Imp rested, high up in the Angel Choir, the angels turned him to stone and he remains there to this day, a reminder to anyone else that may be thinking of making mischief. Sharp eyed visitors may be able to spot him - you’ll have to look closely though as the stone figure of the Lincoln Imp is only around 12 inches tall and sits high up between two arches on the north side of the choir. During Leonardo da Vincis years in Milan, he lived in an old building along the citys main square. At that time, the cathedral of Milan was under construction. Leonardo himself proposed a central dome for the building, but his design was not chosen. Il cosiddetto sarcofago di Acilia è stato rinvenuto nel 1950 nel corso di lavori agricoli nellomonimo quartiere di Roma ed è oggi conservato presso il Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Massimo. Scolpito a partire da un unico blocco di marmo, si presenta purtroppo frammentario e, tra le altre cose, doveva in origine rappresentare ad altorilievo un corteo di sette filosofi da un lato e di nove Muse dallaltro. Il sarcofago fu realizzato con buona probabilità per il padre dellimperatore Gordiano III. Questultimo, infatti, è stato riconosciuto in una delle figure-ritratto superstiti. ° ° ° The so-called sarcophagus of Acilia was found in 1950 during agricultural works in the homonymous district of Rome and is now preserved in the National Roman Museum of Palazzo Massimo. Carved from a single block of marble, it is unfortunately fragmentary and was originally supposed to represent a procession of seven philosophers on one side and nine Muses on the other in high relief. The sarcophagus was probably made for the father of Emperor Gordian III. #designindetail continues our exploration of design movements with a look at Catalan Modernism, which emerged in Barcelona in the late 19th century – a place and time of tremendous possibility. This region of Spain had rapidly industrialized, prompting a wave of economic prosperity matched by an upswell of nationalist pride: a rebirth or ‘Renaixença’. At first, this sentiment was expressed by romantic historicism – looking back to the medieval era, when Catalonia had thrived as a cosmopolitan nexus. With the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition, however, a new expression of this optimistic spirit began to develop. It was called ‘Modernisme’ in its day, but was totally different from the rational functionalism that came later. It was, rather, an ornate and craft-intensive idiom, featuring extravagant, imaginative forms, animated by a self-conscious politics of identity. Lluís Domènech i Montaner’s Castle of the Three Dragons, a centerpiece of 1888 fair, was the first architectural expression of the movement; his later Palace of Catalan Music, with its extraordinary stained glass, is his masterpiece. But the great figure of Catalan Modernism was Antoni Gaudi, whose work was anchored in deep religious conviction and bold experimentation. His Casa Batlló – nicknamed the ‘House of Bones’ – an existing building which Gaudi completely remade from 1904 to 1906, is one of a quartet of modernist buildings on the same street, mocked at the time as el Mansana de la Discòrdia (the block of discord). It exemplifies his fantastical style, using local materials like ceramic tile and the politically charged, presiding symbol of the dragon. For his projects, colleagues like Francesc Vidal created new interpetations of traditional Spanish forms like the bargueño. Gaudi’s cathedral Sagrada Familia has been in construction for over a century, an ongoing emblem of Catalan pride. Dia desses questionaram-me sobre a principal diferença entre a escola filosófica de Platão e a escola filosófica de Aristóteles. Respondi que, além do nome (“Academia” era a de Platão, e “Liceu” a do Aristóteles), as filosofias de ambos pensadores divergia no ponto mais magistral de todos: “Como e por que gente pensa?”, ou seja, a Origem do Pensamento, a Origem da Racionalidade, a Origem das Ideias. Para Platão nós, antes de nascermos, temos contato com o Mundo das Ideias, aonde conhecemos todos os conceitos de tudo que está ao nosso redor. Porém, justo no momento antes de virmos a este mundo, beberíamos a água do Rio Léthe, o “Rio do Esquecimento”, e portanto passaríamos a ter apenas uma ideia do que realmente são as coisas e seria necessário, aqui na Terra, relembrar todos os conceitos agora esquecidos. Ou seja, as ideias para Platão eram INATAS. Já nasciam com o ser humano. Já Aristóteles pensava muito diferente. Se Platão enxergava a existência de um Mundo Ideal (Mundo das Ideias), Aristóteles era muito mais Realista (“res” = coisa). Enxergava o Mundo das “Coisas”. E portanto o Conhecimento seria alcançado principalmente através da Experiência dos humanos com as “coisas”, com o mundo tangível, com o mundo tocável. Ou seja, as ideias para Aristóteles eram apreendidas através dos sentidos, elas eram EMPÍRICAS. Pensando sobre isto me lembrei do gigantesco afresco que está pintado nos aposentos do Papa Alexandre VI, desde 1501 lá no Vaticano. Dentre os inúmeros filósofos que compõe a “Escola de Atenas”, Rafael retratou nas duas figuras centrais Platão e Aristóteles. Se vocês observarem com atenção, verão que Platão, o mais velho e professor de Aristóteles, caminha com sua “República” embaixo do braço, e aponta o indicador direito para cima, para sua Origem do Pensamento, seu “Mundo das Ideias”. Já seu pupilo Aristóteles peripateticamente divaga com o seu mestre carregando sua “Ética Nicomaqueia” em uma das mãos e estendendo a outra para baixo, sobre a sua Origem do Pensamento, espalhada na “Experiência vivida no Mundo Real”. ♦️ Ecstasy of Blessed Ludovica Albertoni ♦️⠀ ⠀ 👨🎨By: Gian Lorenzo Bernini⠀ ⠀ 📍Location: Church of San Francesco a Ripa, Rome⠀ ⠀ 📚 The subject of the sculpture, Ludovica Albertoni, was a Roman noblewoman who entered the Third Order of St. Francis following the death of her husband. She lived a pious life, working for the poor of the Trastevere neighborhood, under the guidance of the Franciscan friars of San Francesco Church, where she was buried in 1533. Pope Clement later beatified and granted her the title of Blessed.⠀ Bernini was 71 years old when he began the work, and it was one of his last sculptures.⠀ The figure of Ludovica Albertoni is presented on a mattress at the moment of mystical communion with God. The folds of her habit reflect her state of turmoil, and her head is thrown back onto an embroidered pillow supported by a headrest. La Sagrada Família, Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família de son nom complet en catalan, est une basilique de Barcelone dont la construction a commencé en 1882. C’est l’un des exemples les plus connus du modernisme catalan et un monument emblématique de la ville. Œuvre inachevée de larchitecte Antoni Gaudi, L’objectif est d’y élever une église dédiée à la Sainte Famille (Saint Joseph, la Vierge Marie et Jésus). Il élabore un projet d’église de style néogothique comprenant une nef de trois vaisseaux fermée par un chœur à déambulatoire our soutenir la charge, il introduit de nouveaux moyens, comme larc en chaînette et les voûtes hyperboloïdes. La longueur est de 120 m et la largeur de 45 m. La vetrata del Duomo di Siena, disegnata da Duccio di Buoninsegna, databile al 1287-1288. La celebre vetrata, realizzata da maestri vetrai senesi non identificati, per coprire il grosso oculo di 5,6 mt di diametro, posto in alto nellabside del Duomo di Siena, fu poi dipinta a grisaglia dallo stesso Duccio da Buoninsegna. In relazione alla dedicazione della Cattedrale di Siena alla Madonna Assunta, la vetrata raffigura la Morte della Vergine (in basso) la sua Assunzione (al centro) e lIncoronazione (in alto). Ai due lati della Vergine Assunta sono raffigurati i 4 santi protettori della città di Siena, ovvero san Bartolomeo e santAnsano a sinistra e san Crescenzio e san Savino a destra. Ai 4 angoli della vetrata sono invece raffigurati i 4 evangelisti seduti in trono e i loro simboli. È stata recentemente restaurata e posta nel vicino Museo dellOpera del Duomo (mentre nel Duomo è stata posta una copia). È lunica opera di questo tipo di Duccio di Buoninsegna, nonché una delle poche vetrate realizzate da maestri di scuola senese . Last night there was a beautiful full moon and it reminded me of my recent visit to the @museiincomuneroma ✨ ✨ I have ways been fascinated by the ancient goddesses that were once worshipped and part of daily life in ancient Rome. ✨ ✨ This statue is of Luna, Roman goddess of the moon. 🌘 Luna was a very famous goddess at the time and the patron of femininity. ✨ ✨ She was known to have power to inspire love, mask reality and pierce illusion.
