The mothers who are receiving the benefits of the Wordens green thumbs expressed their gratitude for the bounty. We all appreciate it more than words can describe. Times are very rough right now, and the boxes make a huge difference for our families, said one mother from the Kids Thrive program. Each box contains an assortment of organic vegetables, some of which are new to these families. One mother shared that she brought home vegetables that she had never even heard of before, but said, I cannot wait to learn how to make/prepare some of the stuff, and a peer echoed this, stating, It will be fun finding new things to cook. By getting good food into the hands of our most vulnerable we are providing that support they need to sustain their families through this crisis. This is what happens when the system fails people over and over. This morning when I woke up, I told myself because of Corona Virus I couldnt risk going to the protest, that it wasnt worth it. All day something inside of me was screaming and itching, a little voice that said this cause is bigger than myself, the virus and its so important to go and stand up for what you believe in. As a filmmaker I couldnt help but document my experience today. Lately it feels like the end of the world, like we are stuck in Grand Theft Auto game. Using your voice is one of the greatest gifts we have as an American citizen and life is the greatest gift known to man. George Floyd has none of those things. He will never have another chance to fall in love, to see a sunset, to laugh with his friends and family. His life was ripped from him like so many others and that is why we must protest and use our voice and bodies. To show up in solidarity for our brothers and sisters. The mistreatment towards people of color, especially blacks from society and the police has gone on for way too long. People are tired of hurting and watching their loved ones getting murdered. I dont agree with violence or stealing but what else is there to do? Extreme times call for extreme measures. No police officer has ever been sentenced so quickly and if it takes burning this entire country down to make real change then I support that 100%. I remember being at work when I received an incoming call from a North Carolina area code. My fingers were shaking, and I ran into a room to take the call. It was someone from the admissions team at Duke Med—I had been accepted into their fall class. I was in total disbelief. Since I was 7 I dreamt of becoming a surgeon. Every job, internship, and experience has been with that end-goal in mind. My aspirations have been nurtured by my peers, mentors, and the proud Igbo community that raised me. A community that pushes their children towards success, and then endeavors to make sure their children’s children achieve even greater success. Compartment syndrome is a medical emergency and it needs to be recognized early. A similar situation may occur when an IO cannula is deployed in the wrong position or dislodged during the treatment. That is why you would want to make sure your IO device is in place. There are several ways to verify IO placement: 1. Check for aspiration of bone marrow 2. Flush and watch for swelling 3. Are the medications injected via the IO taking effect on the patient? 4. If available, bedside doppler may be effective in correct position confirmation. Early signs of compartment syndrome - Severe pain, swelling and redness of the affected limb Compartment syndrome is a rare complication associated with IO access. It may occur when the cannula is dislodged from the bone or over penetrated it. Therefore, correct location must be verified by aspiration of bone marrow, saline flush and observation of extravasation signs. In the image above is the result of a fasciotomy performed on a patient who had arrived to a field hospital with compartment syndrome, after being trapped under wreckage of an earthquake and rescued. My dad is my favorite person on Facebook. He doesn’t do dad jokes, but occasionally posts dirty, teenage jokes which make me shake my head and giggle. Our new Pandemic Emergency Response Unit! Unusual times require creative and unique solutions. Yesterday, we moved Rescue 77 to Station 6 and dedicated it solely to Pandemic priority medical response. We are hoping to limit exposure to our other response units while adding and upgrading the level of personal protection equipment for these two first responders while limiting EMS equipment that could get contaminated am adding more decontamination options and procedures. Amazingly, we have fire personnel volunteering to staff this new unit. My thanks to Captain Martin and Firefighter Carpenter who first staffed Rescue 6 yesterday. They already have started to make changes and improvements to configuration, equipment, process.and procedure. Knowing your limits on a 30 or 45 minute bottle can be the difference of life or death in some situations. Let’s face it, the number of minutes a bottle should last and does last are two different animals. Normally it takes a ton of equipment and a lot of time setting up and dismantling a good air consumption drill but not with The Firesled. MEET THE TEAM - TESS GRACE 📸➡️ Tess is an architectural graduate who studied in Brisbane, and moved back to Townsville after finishing her studies to enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle. Tess is currently studying to sit the Architectural Practice Examination, and if successful, hopes to register as an architect in the coming months. Juggling study and work with a little one can be tricky at times, but she loves sharing stories of her work with her son Ollie, who is particularly fascinated with concrete mixers. Tess is looking forward to travelling again soon, so that she can tick off a few more of her buildings and cities from her bucket list. Some of her favourites shes managed to visit so far include La Sagrada Familia in Spain, Tokyos Nagakin Capsule Tower and the Colosseum in Rome. - My wrist laceration from a couple weeks ago, caused by glass. Hit both arteries, tendons the whole works. Luckily one artery managed to close itself off and supply blood to my hand which is the only reason I kept it. Enjoy

This is the time we need you and your support the most. @bp.surfs suffered a blast injury this morning when she was pumping up a board with an industrial compressor before our surf camp. She was thrown backwards by the blast and hit her head on the ground. She has 7 stitches in the back of her head, a concussion, and a carpel fracture from where the compressor hose hit her hand. She was driven to Salida Hospital from BV in an ambulance where the accident happened. After a CT scan and X-rays in Salida they determined she needed to be flown to St. Anthony’s in Denver so she could be assessed by a neurologist. She has air in her skull and brain hemorrhaging from the blast injury. As you all know medical transport and treatments are extremely expensive. The best thing for Brittany from here on out is to ONLY have to worry about HEALING. We can all make sure of this by donating! The funds raised will be used to alleviate Brittanys financial burden in order to best allow her to concentrate on getting better and overcome her injuries. PLEASE DONATE, SHARE, GET SUPPORT! On September 10, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Constable John Beatson was awarded the International CPTED Association (ICA) advanced practitioner certification. With this designation, the EPS now has three accredited Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) practitioners in the Collaborative Policing Unit. CPTED, pronounced ‘sep-ted’, is a multi-disciplinary approach to crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among citizens while reducing, and minimizing the fear of, crime. EPS members now make up 50 per cent of the six ICA accredited practitioners in Canada. The Service is also home to the only accredited course in Canada — and was the first police service in the world to earn the certification in January. Congratulations, Const.
