عشرة أطفال كانوا يلعبون بجوار سكة حديدية.. تسعة منهم اختاروا أن يلعبوا بجوار خط يمر عليه القطار كل فترة، بينما اختار الطفل العاشر اللعب بمفرده بجوار خط مهجور للسكك الحديدية.. وحين لمح عامل السكة الحديد القطار القادم أصابه الهلع خوفاً على حياة الأطفال التسعة، الذين يلعبون على خط السكة، الذى سيمر عليه القطار.. فكَّر الرجل بسرعة، وقرر تحويل مسار القطار ليسير على الخط المهجور، حيث إن هناك طفلاً واحداً فقط يلعب هناك.. فبذلك هو أنقذ حياة التسعة أطفال.. أي أن هذا القرار حقق أقل خسائر ممكنة!! للوهلة الأولى يتبين لنا أن عامل السكك الحديدية قد اختار القرار الصحيح بمنطق الكم.. ولكن حين نفكر بمنطق الكيف سنكتشف أنه قد أخطأ.. فالطفل الذي ضحى به عامل السكة الحديد كان أذكى الأطفال العشرة، لأنه الوحيد الذى فكر واختار القرار الصحيح باللعب فى المنطقة الآمنة.. أما البقية الذين أنقذ العامل حياتهم فهم الأغبياء والمستهترون الذين لم يفكروا بطريقة صحيحة، واختاروا اللعب في منطقة الخطر. ربما يبدو أن هذا التحليل غير منطقي وغير عاطفي لدى البعض... إلا أن هذا هو الفارق الشاسع بين المجتمعات التي تصنع الذكاء والغباء بين أفرادها.. فالمجتمعات الغبية تضحي بالأذكياء والأكفاء.. أما فى المجتمعات الذكية عند الدول المتقدمة فتلهث القيادات وراء العقول، وتنفق عليها؛ لأن الأذكياء والعقلاء والنابهين يقودون المجتمع ويصنعون السعادة حتى للأغبياء أيضاً . الخلاصة :هناك مجتمعات تصنع الذكاء واخرى تصنع الغباء - @qa9m_ on Instagram

My grandma, the baby in this picture, was born in this farmhouse in Maxwell, New Mexico in 1894. . Her parents were from Golden, Colorado but her father had taken a job as the manager of the Farm Department of the Maxwell Land Grant Company, which owned nearly two million acres of land in northeast New Mexico. The job was difficult as it involved trying to make a profit for the company by irrigating extremely arid land. At the same time, company relations were not good with surrounding homesteaders, considered “squatters,” or with the original Apache inhabitants. . My great-grandfather only lasted about three years at the farm. He then tried running a hotel in nearby Springer, New Mexico, but moved the family back to Colorado by 1899. . In the photo, my grandmother sits in her mother’s lap surrounded by her father, brother and sisters – not to mention the many family dogs! The older couple are her father’s parents. They were both born in New England but moved west and operated a combined grocery and drug store in Golden for many years. When this picture was taken they were visiting their son and his family from their home in Pueblo, Colorado. An old #TBT newspaper clipping of Laurel Hill (aka: Randolph) Mansion. Built in 1767 by Rebecca Rawle, in 1828 it was purchased Dr. Philip Syng Physick, known as the Father of American Surgery. Its no surprise that a prominent doctor would see the advantage of having a country house to escape the repeated outbreaks of disease in colonial Philadelphia that puts our current crisis in perspective. Although decades had passed since the Yellow Fever scourge (that Dr. Physick himself survived), cholera broke out in the city in July 1832. And once again, a privileged class was able to socially distance at their summer homes, many that now comprise the Park Charms. Thankfully, the creation of Fairmount Park saved these houses from the ravages of progress. And fortunately, an early incarnation of the park saved many people from the ravages of cholera. Philadelphia’s death rates were one-quarter those in New York and one-twelfth of Montreal because of comparably clean and available water from the Fairmount Reservoir (Water Works) for drinking, bathing, and cleaning the streets. 💚🌳💚🌿💚🌳💚🌿💚 The park system now allows for more equatable access to the green space that remains a literal lifeline of physical and mental health. Charles Williams Dec 31 1959 from QPA Queer Photo Archive of @jenniolsonsf For sure this is the best haircut of the week — the newspaper accounts of the time even pause to remark on this classic 1950s ducktail. This handsome hero went by the name Charles Williams while passing as a man: “Through about 25 states and at least four jails.” The newspaper stories of the time give us a sense of what Charles was navigating — reference is made to psychiatric help being suggested, followed by the seemingly forced reply, “I have no desire to be boy.” In one lengthy news story the parents are interviewed and although they are generally sympathetic they express the opinion that, “Barbara is a very mixed up girl… We want her to find herself.” Photos #1 & #2 are the original wire service image (the wire service 8 x 10 combines the two mug shots from the Golden, Colorado Jefferson County Jail), #3 is the November coverage of an initial arrest in which it sounds like Charles will return to their previous identity and then #4 reveals yet another arrest in December which leads us to suspect this is not just a passing phase. It’s not clear that this amazing person would have necessarily identified as butch.
