- Denver, Colorado. My home. Been stuck in a hospital for over a week in icu because a virus I got causing heart failure. Today I got transferred to a regular floor with this view for the evening. It may not be Manhattan or Chicago, but it’s sure is something else.

when i was younger i used to “joke” about not living to see 30. i think i prided myself on my spontaneity & sucking the marrow out of life every chance i got. spending every moment of every day as if i could die tomorrow. i almost wore it as a badge of honor that i would do whatever the fuck i wanted & whatever happened, happened. finding bliss and beauty in the random unbridled chaos. i used to always use the “well i could walk out of here and get hit by a car and it’s all over so...why not?” to justify almost every decision made. not the best reason, but i don’t think i was wrong - and i’ve lived a hell of a life so far. getting older has had its downsides for sure - my hair is pretty grey, i definitely don’t fit into the normal vanilla baseline model of what you’re spoon fed your life should look like at 30. i’m not “young” anymore... i don’t think... but i’m definitely not “old”. this is a weird phantasmic middle ground - one which im trying to embrace. it’s a little tough seeing people with wives and kids while i live alone still dealing with the same depression and anxiety i thought would be “figured out” by now...whatever that means. different abhorrent strokes for different pained folks i guess. but there is an upside to getting older too: i’m still here. nothing concretely major has changed about how i choose to live. i still continue to thrive in technicolor chaos. i still get to write this book, i still get to add chapters to this complicated story. i’m still here. it’s not a joke anymore. it feels nice. i’m glad. thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone. keep being beautifully conflicted. 🈂️ - @olivverthekid on Instagram
