A começar, pela religiosidade do povo daqui (ou talvez, a falta dela). . Pra entender um pouco do contexto histórico, basta dizer que até o comecinho dos anos 60, existia aqui uma influência fortíssima da igreja Católica. Pra ter uma idéia, os sistemas de saúde e de educação eram controlados quase que exclusivamente pelos representantes religiosos, além disso, diversos outros eram envolvidos diretamente na política. . Além do enorme prestígio na sociedade, o padres tinham até mesmo a autoridade de interferir na intimidade das familias. De cobrar satisfações e estipular certas regras para os casais (sim, me refiro a exatamente o que vocês estão pensando!). . Isso tudo aconteceu principalmente durante o período de Maurice Duplessis, que foi primeiro ministro daqui entre 1936 à 1939 e de 1944 à 1959. Tudo isso! Não há um limite de vezes que um político pode ser reeleito aqui. . Durante esse tempo todo, embora muitos investimentos tenham sido feitos na infra estrutura daqui, esse período é também conhecido como la grande noirceur (algo como periodo de trevas). . Após sua morte em 1959, os ventos de mudança sopraram forte aqui. O Québec foi se modernizando e pouco a pouco abrindo suas portas ao mundo, e a educação e a saúde passaram a ser assuntos gerenciados pelo governo. Esse período se tornou conhecido como la Révolution tranquille pois, embora muita coisa tenha mudado em pouco tempo, não houve maiores revoltas ou tumultos. . Bem, com tudo acontecendo ao mesmo tempo, dá pra entender que o povo que se sentia oprimido pelo catolicismo, decidiu dar um basta na situação e houve uma evasão das igrejas de uma maneira que pareceria impossivel apenas alguns anos antes. . E como grande parte da população de hoje é composta por filhos e netos dos que vivenciaram isso, existe ainda um misto de desconfiança/desprezo/indiferença com respeito a religião que foi, de maneira consciente ou não, transmitida de geração em geração. .
