I know it has been awhile since I’ve posted but I just had to share this magnificent camper modification some Prius owners are performing. I can’t help but notice that the ricey cookie cutter overland scene is getting out of control. It’s almost like the truck driving morons have died out and been replaced by cringey people with 5th gen Land Runners and YouTube channels. So I’m going to attempt to educate all you copy and paste overlanders and truck driving hill billies once again. For starters, the Prius is the best overland vehicle money can buy. With great looks, exceptional fuel efficiency (think fuel range to get out to the most remote and desolate places in the far corners of the world), and shear rugged Toyota dependability, the Prius is more than suited to do really anything. It truly is a jack of all trades. Secondly, the Prius is a rugged looking adventure mobile. Instead of looking out of place at the mall in a 5th gen Land Runner with tons of bolt on accessories, a Prius can look right at home without gaining extra attention from random guys who also post daily video loggings on their YouTube channel. Finally, with cheap mods like this pop top camper, the Prius is the most accessible platform to millions of people. Lately, I’ve seen people spending more for campers and tents, that look like they’re from Home Depot, than you can buy a nicely looked after and certified pre-loved Prius for and still have enough left over to drive to the moon and back. There are also numerous other reasons why the Prius is the best vehicle ever made, but I’ve covered them in previous posts so feel free to revisit older posts. - When my kitty was sick, her balance was very off. When she tried to jump onto the coffee table and missed my fiance set her up on it, moved it up against the couch so there was no gap, and gave her his hand to rest on. He then fell asleep because he didnt want to wake her by moving it.

Hey Buddy. My big boy. My Bubba... I miss you so much. It’s been almost impossible to function without you. Pause for another breakdown. They come so frequently I’ve woven them into the mundane tasks that are life. Just like you. You were the strongest, brightest thread. Now my life has unraveled into a beautiful pain and grief that is indescribable. It hurts so much but I don’t want it to leave me unless you come back. Come back dude. Please. I see you in everything everywhere and you’re not here. I know you’re in my heart and we’re all one and all that other bullshit that comes with the well intentioned condolences.... but I just want to hug you. I want Hold you in my arms and watch you let out that big sigh and let your guard down and go to sleep because you know Daddy’s got you. Thank you for sending the hummingbirds. I love them. Thank you for letting us know you’re ok. Objectively, we all know I’ll be “OK”. But right now I just feel like half a man crawling around in his own snot trying to fill a god sized hole with nothing but bloody fingers. You gave my life meaning. You gave me love. You gave me Kristi. You gave me unconditional love which is my soul’s nourishment. You were my rock. You took care of me. I miss your voice. It’s absence is deafening. I miss your piercing questioning gaze. I miss your sandpaper tongue on my face. I miss my best friend. I miss my boy. I wish more people got to know you like I did. Like your mama did. You are pure love. You taught me so much. You still are. The lessons in this grief are pretty amazing.... but ignorance is bliss and I’d trade any depth and wisdom for a swim in the ocean with my big boy. I fuckin love you man. I wasnt in a good headspace last week, but a fellow sleepy friend told me last Tues was apparently #worldnarcolepsyday 💤 I try to be pretty vocal about my experience with #narcolepsy bc its not something to be ashamed of or that Im sensitive about, and also bc its something that has a lot of misconceptions which is 1 reason it and other sleep disorders are VERY underdiagnosed - often people with a #sleepdisorder end up being diagnosed/treated for things like #adhd instead of addressing the root problem. Sleep science is new and crazy! So for those who dont know: - I was diagnosed in 2012, 3 years after I started experiencing symptoms at 19 (at first, extreme fatigue/low energy, foggy brain, difficulty focusing). N is genetic but typically the condition onsets in late teens/early 20s, often after a trigger event (I had been ill a lot bc I had no heat that winter.) Only after ruling out every other possibility (bc I didnt know what N ACTUALLY looked like outside of movies) I finally got a sleep study done and whaddya know 🙃 - Research suggests that narcolepsy is autoimmune in function. Most cases have a genetic link (I realized many family members on my dads side exhibit various degrees of symptoms as well), and when the gene is triggered, your body starts to attack the neurons that produce hypocretin (your sleep-wake cycle regulator). - This results in interrupted sleep patterns where your body often skips the restful deep sleep stages on its way to REM (an important but very active sleep stage). So in addition to being more likely to fall asleep while waking, youre also getting LESS of the restful sleep you need, leading to a paradoxical chronic sleep deprivation cycle. - The confusion your brain experiences between REM and waking also accounts for some of the weirder shit, like more likelihood of sleep paralysis, hallucinations (which are not always visual!) and cataplexy - the dropping you see in movies, except its not exactly that...
