Here’s two possibly new ones from a few weeks ago (they each had chalk on them, so there’s a good chance they had been climbed). The first is on the obstacle delusion boulder and could make a heartbreaking variation to that line. The second was a project on the split rock boulder (I did the project to the left of it too, but this one is a much better climb). Both are quite fun and probably in the v4/5 range. I have been working with wood my whole life starting out in my dads shop where he made sculpture as a profession and is referred to as the grandfather of art in Salida Colorado. His art gallery in our building was likely the first and was rarely open but it was a non profit gallery from the late 70s into the 90 s. He is retired now and the gallery and shop is now rocky mtn guitar Jeff Bamburg teaches others how to successfully build your own guitar or you can buy his custom guitars or other luthiers banjos and ukuleles. In search for something significant to with my talents as a carpenter this has been the most satisfying project I have done. I have enjoyed helping people make their dream homes but making a musical Instrament has a different reward. I have always kept music a part of my life but never knew how to make it a livelyhood. It is hard for musicians and now almost impossible for many. Life is to be lived and a small invisible virus has brought this world to almost a standstill. Walmart I am sure is seeing record profits but our local small businesses are closing and may not make it through these times. We may have to reinvent ourselves. I have always said start with your health. I promise you eating well and spending time to fill your soul with what you enjoy is the secret to life. Going to squeeze in a quick restoration series while I’m prepping Teleblaster for paint. My buddy @freonirons409 brought me his grandfather’s old house brand archtop to bring back to life, and I thought it would be fun to see how far I could take it. I’m not sure what brand this guitar is but it was originally purchased out of a catalog in the 30’s or 40’s. In its present condition the top and back are badly warped, the rim has separated pretty much everywhere, missing one of the parallel braces, neck is warped, top is caved-in, and there are visible brush marks from being painted in varnish decades ago. First step is to take it completely apart and plan the restoration attack..sometimes you gotta break them to fix them. Doing a repair like this on a house brand guitar is never worth it, unless it is sentimental in which case the guitar has tremendous value. Also, the advantage to working on these is that you can basically do whatever you want. It’s not like there’s anything to devalue! Surprise visit from the legendary pinstriping artist Dennis Ricklefs this evening. I met Dennis years ago when he pinstriped my 59 Cadillac. We spent 2 days at my shop eating pizza and drinking root beers while listening to story after story of his life and art. We mined, we explored and we floated... This weekend I got to enjoy two of my favorite things, with my two favorite people... Diamonds and adventuring! We mined Herkimer Diamonds, explored the vast and magical depths of Howe Caverns, and weaved our way through the kooky and impressive Secret Caverns, all the way to the 100 foot underground waterfall at the end. We floated down the chilly but gorgeous West Canada Creek a few times, Jonah getting more adventurous with every pass! We stopped for ice cream, played cards and drank hot chocolate while it rained. We talked and talked and talked about Minecraft and big stuff and little stuff. And more Minecraft. We rode bikes and walked and monkey-barred and played checkers and chess with life-sized pawns. We dressed in layers and sat a little closer to the fire.
