#johnsaxon felt like a big brother to me. The power of the movies is its ability to transform your mind and go on journeys with your heros. Saxon was an important part of #enterthedragon because he made you feel like he would have your back and also kick some ass if needed, but Roper also had a vulnerability to him. I also remembered how he interacted with Jim Kelly a strong black man and the love they had for each other. Growing up in Tottenham I had no mentors, so in my young mind my mentors came from the movies and Roper was one of them. I learned from the character Roper that friendship, love, martial arts ability, and last but not least to not fall into the trap of drugs were the keys to life. Roper told Han he would not be a representative of his heroin drug empire and seeing him say NO deeply effected me especially in the environment I lived in. There are countless stories that illustrate what a one of a kind person Luke was, but Ill share this one as it always makes me smile… We were in our first week of shooting the Riverdale pilot. Luke wasnt due to work until the following week – I knew this because I was an enormous fan and nervous to direct him. That day we were doing some exterior work and suddenly I noticed Luke on set walking towards me. I panicked and turned to my AD Jim – what’s Luke doing here? Hes not working today! Jim turned white – clearly he had the same thought I did – someone had screwed up. As Jim went to find out what had happened, I watched Luke from afar – I noticed he now had a C-stand in one hand and a sandbag in the other. I tried to focus on the shot we were setting up, but I was thrown. I turned back again to see Luke, now draping a warming jacket over Lili. Jim returned looking baffled and said, Luke wasnt called. He just wanted to come by to introduce himself and help out. We were both stunned. In all our years combined Jim nor I had ever heard of an actor doing that. As I got to know Luke better, I realized this was not an isolated event. It wasnt an act. He did little things like this every day. It was just the kind of guy he was. Along with the big acts there were other sweet idiosyncrasies, all of which made the world around Luke better. One of my favorites after I offered some direction – hed smile and nod and quickly say – “here it comes! I always loved that. Like he was thrilled with your note and excited to deliver on it. He brought that kind of eternal positivity to everything he did. The last time I spoke to Luke was when he called to see how my newborn son was doing. As a new dad myself, I think thats the hardest part about losing him. I know what a dedicated father he was – I dont remember a single conversation we had where he didnt bring up his two kids and beam with pride as he shared stories about them. So here’s to being as good a friend, colleague, and parent as Luke was. To the impossibly high bar he set in all those categories I say, “here it comes!” - @ltkrieger on Instagram

For me personally, these minutes were very hectic and not very clear. I was waiting some 300 meters after the finish line, watching the final on a spectator’s telephone. When I saw Dylan crash I walked back to the team bus, to capture some of the riders’ first reactions after a disappointing final. When I got there, Mike was surrounded by media, but there was no sheer joy, only tense anticipation. Only when the stage’s official results came in did the rollercoaster really start. I just followed Mike around for the hour or so after, capturing every interaction he had with teammates and members of staff.
