I am so excited to share that Next week @lovelocalnorthernrivers with the Northern Rivers Business Collective is starting the @sourdoughbusinesspathways pre accelerator program for 8 weeks with @ash_camm_ and so many fantastic mentors. I have diverse experience across different industries which certainly helps with collaboration with businesses in Northern Rivers. I have 23 years experience in the aquatic Industry, including running swim schools with over 40 swim teachers. I also founded @ballinaswimschool in 2019. 10 years retail experience, including 4 years in London managing outdoor stores, assisting with product development and our store winning store of the year, highest like for like and I was a finalist at Retail Week magazines Manager of the year back in 2006. 5 years working in safety, 2 of those years was working with a refrigeration company with service and install, the next 3 was in mining including BHP, Downers on a RIO site and BGC. Very interesting working nickel, construction of a haul road and iron ore sites. I have also taught martial arts and founded @ballinakidsfitness January this year. Many moons ago I used to do sports massage and was a sports trainer at a WAFL club back in Perth. Bobby’s school is running a two week camp this month, and after hearing their plans and talking to our pediatrician, we decided Bobby should go. Cases in our community are currently low and we don’t know how long the window for him to be able to do in person school will be open between the COVID situation and our family’s situation. We are so fortunate to be able to send him there - they have moved the entire school to an outdoor school model for the foreseeable future and instituted mandatory mask wearing, smaller class sizes, daily symptom and temperature checks and frequent hand washing. As we are anticipating we will have to pull Bobby out this fall at some point and/or who knows what the fall will look like, we decided today was our first day of school! It’s easy to snap and yell at our kids when they do something wrong. But is it truly effective? Yes, they might stop what they’re doing. Yes, they might comply but is it because they understand or because they’re scared? Most of the time when you snap and yell they comply out of fear. And they feel bad. Really bad. Think about your own childhood and how you felt when someone mistreated you. If you yell, they’ll probably stop doing whatever they were doing but do you want to raise a child who complies out of fear or because they think they might not be loved? If you think about it, it makes sense. How would you respond if someone yells and makes you feel bad every time you do something they don’t agree with? Imagine your boss was like this. You’d probably quit after a while. So, when responding to your children remember this. Think about how it would make you feel if you were your own parent. Would you like to be treated the way you treat your children? Ideally your answer to this question is YES (for the most part). Come from a place of love, be gentle, and your children will actually respond better, they will want to cooperate and they will behave better. 💜 So, friend, let’s do this! We dished out crepes, ice cream and sandwiches at the coffee shops, Indian food for the weekend markets and catered events for Jewish families. Then capoeira came into our lives and swept us up and changed everything. And we left our food story behind to start afresh. Its been a happy 20 years. But food has always been my way of bringing the people I care about together. Ive spent the last 20 years drumming up large meals for my strapping, perennially hungry Irani boys of assorted ages as well as my friends and extended capoeira family. My favourite memories are of friends gathered around my table stuffing their faces, groaning in satisfaction. I feed the heart and not just the stomach. COVID changed all that. Ive really missed having my friends over, my sons friends, our capoeira familia. After a lot of (not so gentle prodding) from my friends, Ive decided to launch my own home kitchen, featuring my signature recipes from all around the world. My cooking is a blend of my mothers touch and Ratnagiri recipes, my fathers Malayali roots, my father-in-laws Irani heritage and my own culinary experiences in Israel. The menu changes every week.
