Saddened to hear of the passing of Philippe Daverio. I had the great pleasure of photographing him for #WeAreDandy book with @nattyadams in 2016. Accompanied by @kellfire, we visited him at his cavernous home in Milan, filled with books, art, papers, Egyptian rolling papers, and inspiration everywhere. The lead image is how I recall my first glimpses of him, but it’s a bit of a lie: I didn’t feel right about pulling out my camera at his front door before I had properly met him, so when we were saying our goodbyes I coaxed him for a few last frames. To me it has the same energy—his mischievous bright smile. ✨ Philippe Daverio was a well known Italian art critic, historian, TV personality, and—of course—great dandy. Portraits in captivity, number twenty six. This is my Mum. She made a real effort for our drawing session on zoom, did her hair, put a smart jacket on and wore her favourite necklace. We still had a silly chat about her neighbours, her joy about the church being open again, and what she had for lunch: I haven’t had gherkin soup for years!!! Not that I miss it massively. We very nearly didn’t meet that day - Mum and technology don’t mix that well. In the end she got my brother to connect her to zoom remotely, from his work computer: what would mothers do without their hacker sons?!? . . Louis Kahn, is an American architect whose buildings, characterized by powerful, massive forms, made him one of the most discussed architects to emerge after World War II. Kahn designed private residences and worker housing in the 1930s and ’40s. After a fellowship at the American Academy in Rome (1950), Kahn carried out his first important work: the Yale University Art Gallery (1952–54) which marked a notable departure from his International Style buildings of the previous decade. In 1957 Kahn was named professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. His Richards Medical Research Building (1960–65) at the university is outstanding for its expression of the distinction between “servant” and “served” spaces. The servant spaces (stairwells, elevators, exhaust and intake vents, and pipes) are isolated in four towers, distinct from the served spaces (laboratories and offices). Laboratory buildings had been designed this way for decades; Kahn elevated this practical feature into an architectural principle. He combined the servant-served typology with inspiration from classical and medieval architecture, basic geometric forms, and an elegant, expressive use of such familiar materials as concrete and brick. Designed by Kahn the Four Freedoms Park in Roosevelt Island NY a triangular shaped Park overlooking Manhattan. For as long as I’ve lived, I never believed this day would come. Its possibility more a fantasy than real life. But a few days ago, I got news on the identity of my biological grandfather. Using DNA testing and with the assistance of a seasoned genealogist, I now have a name and a face that has eluded my family for half a century. It was always my mother’s wish to find her father. I tried and failed so many times, leading to dead ends. I admit I had always felt indifferent to knowing who my grandfather was. It’s war, I thought. People vanish. So what. But now, with his face peering back at me, as if surfacing from a legend, as if Achilles had a photographic gaze you could return with your own, I am unmoored by a strange yet overpowering sense of pride, joy, and peace. Hello, Arceson Dolan Kellum. You don’t know me and yet I am here because of you. I’m sorry you died in 2005 and we never met—but I smile knowing I shared this earth with you for a little while—and so did your daughter. Now I know where I got my thick-ass eyebrows, my goofy smile, the freckles on my nose (we’re Irish!?) Born in 1947 to farmers in rural Arkansas, you left for war at 17, in that war brought an incredible girl into the world. There is so little about you in the records—looking for you reminds me how easily we are erased, how easily history exhales us back as air, won’t keep any of us long enough to be found. And yet, I found you, grandpa. I’m a writer now. I hope you’re proud of me. Irish, Vietnamese, Southern farmers, immigrants, I come from storytellers on all sides. A BK completa este mês 35 anos de existência e apesar do momento atual queremos comemorar e agradecer por tudo de bom que nos aconteceu ao longo desses anos. Em 1985 começamos criando objetos de metal e gravuras com foco no mercado corporativo e em 1986 nos tornamos uma empresa e passamos a comercializar nossos objetos. Crescemos, diversificamos nossos produtos e nos fortalecemos no mercado de peças autorias. Em 2001 com a entrada do designer Marcelo Fernandes na empresa criamos a DIVINITÉS focada em peças com linguagem lúdica e colorida. El Cap de Lligamosques dOlot té fama de ser el primer nan de què es té notícia a Catalunya. La primera referència que es té dun nan, o si més no dun personatge més baix que els gegants,que podria ser lantecedent del Cap de Lligamosques, la trobem en linventari de béns comunals de 1678, quan sesmenta lexistència de lo gegant,gegantessa,mulassa y ninoy ab llurs vestas ja molt usades. La paraula ninoi és referida a un noi, i també - segons lhistoriador Josep Murlà - podria definir una figura de grandària inferior als gegants, que devia consistir en una bona testa portada per una persona. El nom de Lligamosques el trobem esmentat ja el 1760, en els documents de la Confraria del Santíssim de lesglésia parroquial de Sant Esteve. Lactual Lligamosques pot ser una adaptació dun cap que es conserva a la casa que la família Bolòs té al Carrer Major dOlot, que és obra de Ramon Amadeu. Ladaptació podria ser obra del mateix Amadeu, o bé dalgun escultor de la ciutat. La seva funció ha estat llargament discutida; per a uns fa de mestre de cerimònies, obrint pas als gegants; per a daltres obre pas als gegants i procura que les criatures no els entrebanquin i els facin caure. Segons la llegenda que es transmet de pares a fills,sembla que antigament se li untava el cap pelat amb mel perquè les mosques no molestessin els qui anaven a la processó o, segons una altra versió de la història,perquè les mosques no empaitessin els seus amos,que eren uns comtes,durant la temporada destiu. - @farandulaolotina on Instagram

Artizanul Unirii principatelor române, Alexandru Ioan Cuza a fost de două ori în Dobrogea, în timpul domniei sale de cinci ani, într-o perioadă în care tărâmul dintre Dunăre şi Mare se afla încă sub dominaţie otomană. În 1860 şi 1864, Cuza a vizitat mai multe localităţi dobrogene, înainte şi după întoarcerea de la Constantinopole, acolo unde mergea pentru a se întâlni cu sultanii otomani Abdul Medjid I, respectiv Abdul Aziz. Cele mai multe informaţii le avem însă din cea de a doua sa călătorie, din mai 1864, când se îndrepta spre Istanbul. Cu această ocazie a vizitat Medgidia, Cernavodă, Murfatlar şi Constanţa De fiecare dată, cu acordul administraţiei otomane, în aceste localităţi, Cuza a participat la ceremonii oficiale, întâlnindu-se cu oficialităţi şi mai ales cu numeroşi români dobrogeni veniţi să îl salute pe artizanul Unirii principatelor. La Cernavodă el se afla pe vasul Sofia, unde s-a întâlnit cu generalul de brigadă Sali Paşa, cel care a rămas cu el ca ataşat pe toată perioada călătoriei în Turcia. După ce a petrecut noaptea la Cernavodă, Cuza a plecat a doua zi cu un tren special la Kiustenge (Constanţa), unde a ajuns la ora 12.00 şi unde nu a stat decât câteva ore, fiind aşteptat de vasul care urma să îl ducă la Istanbul. #visitdobrogea #doborgea #constanta sursa Poveștile Mării Negre - @visitdobrogea on Instagram
