It was the Tour of Missouri (Gateway Cup) 2009. Remember that race? It my 1st big year on @teamtibco_siliconvalleybank. It was this week, 11 years ago. It was 4 days of criteriums over Labor Day weekend and I was terrified. I had a different last name. The team had dual 🇺🇸 champion (@usacycling Pro Road Race and Criterium), Brooke Miller. The season was winding down for most if you werent prepping for Worlds. Silly season was here, but for me, I was just getting started. @katcarroll was part of the hit squad there but was ready for offseason. She was on the fun 🚂 and as I was spinning in the morning and doing openers, she would play hoops at the park with local kids. I was mesmerized and a little jealous. Wasnt she nervous? One of the stages the DS asked me if I had ever raced in the dark. Of course I had. Duh. I am a 6 month old professional cyclist, what do you think? Well, he responded, just in case, dont believe what you see in the shadows. We started the race, I took the first corner, and screamed. I felt like I was being swarmed by every rider about to careen into me. Beware the shadows. The last stage we were batting 3 for 4 but I had yet to make it to the front of the bike race. Brooke and Kat give me one job. Get to the front and ride around in circles for at least 2 laps. I got to the start line trying to hold back the shaking hands and urge to chew my nails. I wore my lucky hoop earrings and @sramroad sweat band. Short socks for the tanlines. I saw my dear friend from the Bay Area @bobcullinan that was at many local races and all was right in my 🌍. I’m not 😢, you are! I did get to the front of that damn bike race. We won. We ran through the fountains of downtown St. Louis much to our director’s embarrassment. I met Thor Husovd and Mark Cavendish at the podium. I didnt know who they were, but somebody introduced me. My teammates molded me and loved me even with chain grease on my leg and my determined effort to roll up my shorts. They made me better. They still do. We raced bikes. We laughed. They babysat me. For that, I am forever grateful. I dont want to go back, but I do want to give this moment a hug today. We believed in something. 📸 JP - @amtetrick on Instagram

“So what’s unique about the Turkish coast of Mediterranean?” - I actually get this question a lot. Apart from the incredible people living out here, I always like to talk about Turkish Gulets. Built only in Bozburun, Bodrum, Fethiye and Marmaris, these vessels continue the long lasting legacy of Turkish shipbuilding. The traditional Gulet features a wooden hull (typically 15 to 40 meters long), a long but relatively low standing superstructure and two or three main masts equipped with sails. Most of the time a gulet is fitted with 4-12 cabins and either private or shared bathrooms (depending on the configuration). Typically a gulet is propelled by a single 300-600hp engine and two diesel generators. Because these vessels have a draft of at least 3 meters and are not fitted with bow thrusters, maneuvering them requires a lot of experience. It is believed that a captain capable of handling this vessel in rough seas can handle any other ship with same success. These yachts have excellent service on board and are available for charter throughout the season. If the weather allows to do so, the engine can be turned off and you can enjoy a classic voyage under sails. Private gulet charters are a perfect opportunity for those who want to explore the most iconic and beautiful bays and islands of the Mediterranean in superior luxury and privacy. Against all odds, in a year when it’s needed more than ever before, TSP has evolved to a whole new level. This year it has truly become about people... because we’re running to fight global injustice. We now have a platform, the TSP Fund, that allows all of you to come PLAY with us while we hammer our bodies across this weekend. As many of you know, alcohol is a big part of my life. From working at breweries to running bar programs for the better part of a decade, I am continually encompassed in the wide world of spirits, beer and wine. Dont get me wrong, I love what I do. I truly do. However, as many of you know, and many of you can relate to, the wide world of alcohol can bring its many hardships as well. Bad cycles of drinking, especially with everything going on in the world can affect you physically, your relationships, your overall health and perhaps most importantly, your mental health. And so, just a mere 40 days ago, I pledged to take a break from the devils juice. I write this today because I am the most proud of myself I have ever been. While it hasnt been a clean 40 days of sobriety, I have taken a significant step back and the results have jumped off the board. Today marks, in the last 40 days, 100 miles ran, 275 miles biked, 23 pages written, and 114 days since my last Quarantine Videos. That last thing is something Im very proud of, because of how awfully stupid they were. This isnt a boastful post, this is meant for inspiration. Happy World Bicycle Day! With everything wrong in the world today I’m humbled with how much good can be achieved through #CyclingActsofKindness. Through cycling I’ve experienced so much goodness from at the time strangers which has formed strong resilient connections and friendships. To me a bicycle represents the opportunity to experience freedom both in a physical sense as transport but mentally as well. The Mighty Mac Swim might have been postponed this weekend, but that didn’t stop our crew from doing something grand. Having all this racing crammed in at once, really took me back to January. It’s bizarre to think that the @tourdownunder was only 8 months ago. While I had a blast shooting for @wmncycling and @fdj_naqui_fut during the Women’s race, there were a lot of moments I captured that never saw the light and that I forgot about. It was nice to roll back through and relive those busy days once more. I’m not sure in what capacity the race will exist in next year, but sadly I’m petty confident we won’t see the normal influx of international teams able to make the journey down. Aeolus was built in San Diego, California in 1904, she is an extreme plank-on-edge design (narrow beam, very deep draft, V shaped in section with all the ballast inside the boat). The designer is unknown but Kunhardt developed a GL Watson inspired rig. Originally she was raced successfully and later was used for chartering. She was re-built in 1982-3 with the keelson as the only original piece of timber left. She is double planked in cedar to the waterline with light timbers of iron wood. The topsides are fir and the deck is triple planked finished in Port Orford cedar. She was imported into the UK in 2003 and in five years had three owners who improved her but did little sailing as her spars and sail plan was over-canvassed. This resulted in excessive weather helm and an un-seaworthy boat. Anthony Wheaton purchased her in 2008 and is continuing her improvement. He has replaced the over-canvassed rig which had a boom that overhung the counter by 10ft with a balanced sail plan designed by Ed Burnett. It’s still too hot for an everest attempt, but juuuuust right for good training. Yesterday I did 2 efforts of 15 minutes at 415 watts, and today I cranked out some hill repeats until I hit a half everest.
