EIRRAS my muse for the “Live with Event” 🇨🇦 • We met in an Uber on our way to the event and for 45 minutes we chatted about life, careers, love and really just got to know each other. I still hadn’t decided what I was going to do with her haircut for the event because I wanted the haircut to be suitable to her, her lifestyle and I wanted her to feel beautiful💁🏻♀️ • Cutting hair in front of people is always nerve-wracking but Eirras was so calm, excited and she put her trust in me and I’m so grateful for that. When she came out of the changing room in her outfit I really got inspired to give her a soft, layered and French Girl inspired shag haircut💋 • She is aspiring model and I wanted to make sure that the haircut matched what she wanted to feel like and look like. Our short doc is a documentary-animation hybrid that traces the roots, passion, and perseverance of leading Indigenous youth climate activist, @autumn.peltier. The Water Walker documents Autumn’s journey to New York City as she prepares to speak in front of the United Nations, and delivers a powerful message for the future of her community and our planet. One thing I try to do every weekend is to spend some time doing a physical activity outside 🌞. Whether that’s playing basketball, tennis, hiking, or paddle boarding 🏄🏽♀️ I try to make sure that I get at least a few hours a week exercising outdoors. It has improved my overall mood, mental health, and physical health tremendously. ☺️ This past weekend I hiked a little over 11 miles. While I used to hike most weekends in the past when I was in undergraduate, I hadn’t gone in a few months. After this hike I was INCREDIBLY sore and I couldn’t figure out why. At the gym, I use the stair master, I have great stamina/endurance, and my legs/core are strong through resistance training. What I forgot is that hiking focuses on balance exercises that some resistance machines and gym exercises tend to forget. 🙅🏽♀️While hiking, you are constantly balancing on loose rocks, dirt, boulders, and other things you might find on the trail. ⛰ Hiking worked out muscles that I tend to skip over through balancing and stabilization mechanics. So remember that while the gym can give you a great workout, try to diversify your physical activity. You might be missing muscle groups that you never thought of! Our upcoming #DeepLook episode follows a peregrine falcon pair, @cal_falcons Annie and Grinnell, as they lay their eggs and raise three chicks at the top of the @ucberkeley’s 300-foot bell tower. Peregrine falcons are found in cities across the United States, from New York to Chicago to San Francisco. But it wasn’t always like this. 🐦 These raptors – the fastest animals in the world – were on the brink of extinction in the 1960s, after the pesticide DDT thinned their eggshells to the point where they would break when parents sat on them. Peregrine falcon eggs that had been collected for decades by museums helped scientists figure out that eggshells had been thinning out. 🥚 For our episode, our series cinematographer Josh Cassidy filmed peregrine falcon eggs in the collection of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, at @ucberkeley. The MVZ’s collection was one of those studied to figure out the cause of the eggshell thinning, according to Carla Cicero, the museums curator of birds. 🐦 A lot of our specimens go back to the late 1800s, early 1900s, Cicero said. Hello Fall 🖐 🍁🍂🍃 See Ya Later Summer 🌞 You went by far too quickly! Im grateful to have spent one of my last days of summer on set 😁🎬 The last few months have brought on so many changes in my life both personally and in work. The transition to self tapes and working from home has taught me so much about who I am as a performer. Its forced me to watch myself acting on tape, to learn the more technical aspects of putting together a self tape and to learn how to hone my craft through Zoom and in a room of fellow students in masks at a safe 6 feet away. And Im a much better performer because of it! HEAD COACH ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT - MA JIANPING Coach Ma trained under Zhao Qingkui, one of the founders of the Chinese weightlifting system. Ma was on the Chinese National Team from 1978 to 1988. Coach JianPing Ma represented China in the 67.5 class at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Won a silver medal and two bronze medals while competing in four World Championships and World Cups. Coach Ma is currently a 4-time World Master’s Champion. 23 years of international coaching exerperiance, beginning as a Provincial coach and rising as National level coach for China’s Junior team. Former Head Coach of the Seychelles, Africa National Team. Former USA World University National Team from 2003 to 2007. Former Head Coach for the Lindenwood Univeristy Team. Theres this line in The Perks of Being a Wallflower that I still remember very clearly. Its what Mr. Anderson answered when Charlie asked the teacher why his sister still wants to be in a relationship with her abusive boyfriend. We accept the love we think we deserve Mr. Andersons right, isnt he? I think that particular statement applies not just to love & relationships, but also to other things in life. We accept what we THINK we deserve Sometimes youre stuck in $h!*ty situations just because you THINK you deserve to be there, because you THINK that youre not good enough to deserve any better. The moment you decide you deserve better (and hence start working towards being better), the more likely it is that greater things will come your way. Dont wait for others to convince you that you deserve something great. External validation is of course nice to hear every now and then - but internal validation, one that comes from within, is much stronger and will take you a lot further in achieving and accepting your own definition of success that you deserve.
