Breck glory days -this was a really cool one for me in terms of seeing skiing more than just the skiing. Watching @heyguysitsclarke approach to shooting Breck, which at the time was literally the only spot that park edits were coming from, was insanely inspiring. Heute vor einer Woche habe ich mir einen Lebenstraum erfüllt. Es war ein langer Weg bis zur Überquerung der Ziellinie meines ersten Marathons. Ein Weg gepflastert aus harter Arbeit, Qualen und vielen Entbehrungen, aber auch aus tollen Trainingsläufen mit meiner Crew @runpackberlin und unbeschreiblichen Emotionen. This week the TRAIL podcast chats to world-renowned researcher & sports medicine specialist Dr Peter Brukner OAM @pbrukner (MBBS, FACSP, FACSM, FASMF, FFSEM) Peter has worked as a doctor for Liverpool Football Club, The Australian Cricket team, the Australian Olympic team, the Socceroos, and numerous AFL teams including Melbourne & Collingwood to just name a few. He is a stalwart of the sports media, specialising in injuries and overall wellness, while also publishing academic books including Clinical Sports Medicine. He was one of the founding members of the Australian College of Sports Physicians, and the first Australian to be elected to the Board of the American College of Sports Medicine - receiving an Order of Australia Medal for his efforts. Peter was the team manager of the Australian team at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and is pictured here with Cathy Freeman’s Olympic 400 metre winning Gold medal!! What a bio, what a man! 10 years later. Still one of the best days. Franklin Field was packed for the @pennrelays, 50,000+ for a track meet, mostly to see @usainbolt anchor the Jamaican 4x100m team to victory with his earth shaking 8.8 second final leg. But soon after, our ragtag @uvatfcc guys took a shot at the best teams in the country and aided by a heroic late kick by @ra_andrews we squeaked by @oregontf to win the Championships of America 4x800m. An incredible memory with teammates, frozen in time. Lead off leg, Alex Bowman, now a teacher I’m Detroit. Second leg, Lance Roller, now finishing his PhD in Nashville, I ran third and freshman @ra_andrews on anchor who went on to make the 2016 US Olympic team. Old grainy video linked in bio. Even though it was not one of my best result it’s the one performance from the Australian IRONMAN championships at Foster-Tuncurry that I remember most fondly. After a terrible ride where I got dropped from the pro pack, I was not where I wanted to be off the pace with 30km to go. I had to think positively so I sat up for the final 30k and took on an ANZAC cookie at each aid station and made sure I drank a lot and released the back. Coming into T2 I thought my race was completely over but to my amazement I had some good legs and ran from outside the top 20 into 8th place holding off a fast finishing David Meade. Exactly 2 years ago I went to the Arctic Circle for my first time. It was also the first time I sent a 1k+ line and the first time I had to deal with EXTREMELY high winds on very long highlines. Its crazy. It really shows you how powerless we sometimes still are when mother nature takes over control. (This is footage by @smileyvideography from 2 years ago in Senja) Last week we went back North, this time to Sweden rather than Norway and we rigged a 1.9k line, mostly to test this terrain for an even bigger project in the future. Unfortunately the wind shut us down again, less than 24h after the line was up. We still have lots to learn... Im sad that I couldnt get on this line, with my run being scheduled for the 2nd day, just before the winds kicked in, but Im glad we rigged it and Im extremely proud of and happy for @quirinherterich for sending the line on his first attempt right after rigging. You earned it, man! And Im even more proud of the whole team who came together in this beautiful but rough and rather highline-unfriendly terrain to work together on something big. Chapeau my guys! Затем все снова складывалось как пазл: от создания идеальной картинки в голове до ее реализации проходило считаное время. И вот ты начинаешь воспринимать себя через призму своих результатов в спорте. Победа за тобой - хорошая девочка, победа за другой - какое же я говно. В состоянии последнего я жила годы, это знали только близкие люди, картинка в социальных сетях была иная. ⠀ Мне помогла работа со спортивным психологом. Да, пришлось обратиться за помощью (и это нормально), потому что я старалась сделать максимум, чтобы улучшить свои показатели. В память четко врезалась фраза «ты не есть твой результат в спорте», можно провести аналогию на любую сферу вашей жизни. Казалось бы, примитивно. Но зачастую спортсмены мыслят иначе, думая, что их результат говорит о них ВСЕ. ⠀ Я так и не смогла улучшить свой рекорд в тройном прыжке, добиться мечты той маленькой девочки о золоте. Больше нет вдохновения и былого чувства, которое заряжало меня и мотивировало пахать на тренировках. Решение уйти из профессионального спорта далось мне нелегко. Хотелось это сделать красиво, на пике результативности, но вся ситуация в легкой атлетике просто кричит о том, что пора уже бросить и заняться другим делом. Я полностью углубилась в тренерство, учебу и начала много бегать. Да-да, ловите теперь меня на шоссейных дистанциях. ⠀ Честно, я давно не чувствовала себя настолько счастливой, наполненной энергией и внутренне уверенной. She refused to attend her own parade in Tennessee after winning unless it were open to both black and white people. Skatepark Victoria in Milpitas CA, Sept 1978. Some behind the fence “Dad pics” of me riding the blue keyhole pool next to the Pro Shop. This pool was pretty deep and was hardly ever ridden since the white double-bowl and kidney pool were so good... not to mention the entire park overall. If my memory serves me they later put grip tape and a little rope in the roll-in so you could climb out of the thing. SPV was the best all-around park in Nor Cal.
