Otto Eerelman (23 March 1839, Groningen - 3 October 1926, Groningen) was a Dutch painter; best known for his depictions of dogs and horses. He was also a court painter and did several portraits of Wilhelmina, as Princess and Queen. He showed an early aptitude for art and, against the wishes of his parents, enrolled at the Academie Minerva in 1860, where he studied with J.H. Egenberger. After graduating, he spent another year at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp). Later, he took private lessons in the studios of Lawrence Alma-Tadema. After a brief stay in Paris, he returned to Groningen and worked as a teacher at the Academie from 1867 to 1874. He moved to Brussels that year to establish himself as a painter but, for unknown reasons, relocated to The Hague in 1875, where he lived until 1902. It was during this time that he served as a court painter and many of his works are still to be seen in Het Loo. For health reasons (rheumatic neuralgia), he spent five years in Arnhem, then went back to Groningen in 1907. 🌱 Otto Eerelman (23 Mart 1839, Groningen - 3 Ekim 1926, Groningen) Hollandalı bir ressamdı; en çok köpek ve at tasvirleriyle tanınır. Pariste kısa bir süre kaldıktan sonra Groningene döndü ve 1867den 1874e kadar Akademide öğretmen olarak çalıştı. O yıl kendini bir ressam olarak konumlandırmak için Brüksele taşındı, ancak bilinmeyen nedenlerle 1875te Laheye taşındı. 1902ye kadar yaşadı. Bu süre zarfında saray ressamı olarak görev yaptı ve eserlerinin çoğu hala Het Looda görülebilir. 🎨 Como el sábado 26/09 acogemos el Concurso de pintura rápida de la Fundación Viana, queremos aprovechar para enseñaros algunos cuadros muy especiales de la colección del palacio. . 🖼 Hoy os mostramos el ‘Despacho del Duque de Rivas en Nápoles’, de Giuseppe Ruso (1848). . 👨🎨 En las paredes del lienzo se aprecian varios cuadros que reflejan la afición por la pintura del duque, incluyendo un gran ‘Autorretrato’. “Faithful unto Death: Christianae ad Leones!’” was painted by Herbert Gustave Schmalz c1888. It professes to show a scene in the Coliseum at Rome during the time of the Christian persecution. A group of naked young (and attractive) women are tied to herms (sculptures with a head and perhaps a torso above a plain, usually squared lower section), awaiting the onset of lions, some of which can be seen, eager for their prey, behind the gate of the archway in the middle distance. One of the girls, overcome with fear, has collapsed, and is being revived by a slave. It is the feast of Bacchus, and the pillars are painted red and ornamented with emblems of his worship. Tier upon tier of expectant faces rise around the amphitheatre, whose floor is soft sand. Slaves clad in red and white direct a few late-comers to their seats. The Roman soldiers rest on their spears at the entrance, beside which sit some foreign ambassadors or guests of the great Caesar. The girl on the left with the golden hair, burying her head in her hands, bears a strong resemblance to Lena Pullan who was often a model in Frederic Leightons pictures. Schmaltz’s painting combines many of the themes that were popular with artists (and with the predominantly male audience for these paintings) in the 19th century - the Roman times, slavery and naked & chained women. 📍🎨 Masolino da Panicale, Masaccio Solo due anni dopo lesordio, si colloca lavvio delle due opere capitali di Masaccio, la SantAnna Metterza e gli affreschi della cappella Brancacci. Da poco il pittore ha fatto lincontro fatidico con il più maturo Masolino da Panicale. Quando questi si trasferisce a Firenze è quasi quarantenne: sino a quel momento non ha lasciato alcuna traccia di sé, ma in città si afferma subito come una personalità eminente, con il suo stile che ha distillato le eleganze gotiche in figure di costruzione più solida ed essenziale. È un pittore valente, sicuramente più amabile dal gusto corrente. Non sono maestro e allievo, sono due colleghi che traggono luno dallaltro esempi preziosi, in uno scambio che li rende reciprocamente compatibili sul piano formale ma sempre ben identificabili. Marsiglia 1794, gli anni del Terrore in Francia. Saying that the last 6 months have been a roller coaster of emotions would be an understatement. My life looks very different to what it was at the start of the year (self-isolation, permanently WFH, resignation…) but I couldn’t be happier. At first, when I was told to self-isolate, not being able to go out for 2 FULL weeks seemed insane. But also necessary as cases were rising and I had to do my part. All of a sudden, my home became my office, my gym, my meditation area, my everything literally. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I quickly realised how lucky I was to have this opportunity to finally bring Women MAKE Stories to life. No more ‘the next train will arrive in 2 minutes’ when you’re already late, no more waking up at the crack of dawn to go to the gym to fit it all in with my schedule. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This was my time to slow down, reflect, check in with my body and mind. To ask myself honestly and with no judgement: what’s stopping me to take WMS to the next level? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had already been working on my business for some months before the pandemic hit but for some reasons, I couldn’t connect all the dots. Being a creative, I knew I needed a business coach, someone who could keep me accountable and guide me into this new adventure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ WMS is also about collaboration and for me it was important to work with women whose values aligned with mine. Looking for the right coach wasn’t as easy as I thought because there are so many incredible women out there (I will tell you more about these women soon) but ultimately I knew that @lauren.osullivan_ was the right choice for me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The way she believed in me and WMS from the very beginning gave me the confidence to stop being afraid of putting myself and the business out there. Nepoleon was killed using chemicals⁉️🕵️ . .@science_fact_hunter . Some historians have argued that he died from cancer, others that the British poisoned him, while a third theory is that his death was accidentally hastened by toxic vapours from wallpaper dyed with arsenic. Scheele’s green (copper arsenite) was discovered in 1778 by Karl Scheele, a Swedish chemist. Like the IKEA home furnishings of today, it was cheap and vibrant in colour and became extremely popular in the manufacture of a wide range of home goods in homes of all levels of wealth. Napoleons illness and death on St Helena have been the subject of controversy. His symptoms have been compared with those of arsenic poisoning1–3, and arsenic has been found in surviving samples of his hair4–8. During the nineteenth century, many people were accidentally poisoned by arsenical vapours from wallpaper9–11. Accordingly, it is an intriguing speculation that Napoleon may have ingested arsenic from his wallpaper. After presenting this speculation on a radio broadcast, one was offered an original sample of wallpaper from Napoleons residence on St Helena.It reported that X-ray fluorescence measurements on this paper reveal enough arsenic to be capable of causing illness but probably not death.
