Announcement: It is with great regret that we must postpone Social Avenue for the next 4 weeks. Due to restrictions coming into place in Trafford the local council have made a decision to suspend all large events and limiting the number of people allowed on site to 150. This is to include all staff and members of the public. The reasons given for this decision are due to the virus cases increasing. We are currently in the process of liaising with our health and safety team and the local authorities to find out how these figures are produced and what deems this ruling acceptable. In the region of 80+ staff members heavily relied upon our socially distant event series for 10 weeks, creating a vital source income during these incredibly hard times as well as shining a ray of hope upon the events industry here in the UK. We have worked tirelessly to implement every measure possible (with success we must add!) and this enthusiasm will not end there! The next 4 weeks of events are now postponed but not cancelled. We are working right now on organising new dates for these shows to go ahead under guidance from our local council. We ask please, for you to hold onto your tickets and help us to support this industry which we love so dearly. Could you identify #Orion The #Hunter? The stars of Orion were associated with Osiris, the god of rebirth and afterlife by the ancient Egyptians. Depending on the version of the theory, additional pyramids can be included to complete the picture of the Orion constellation, and the Nile river can be included to match with the Milky Way. Orion the Hunter appears in the winter sky, with his bow and his hunting dogs, Canis Major and Canis Minor, trailing behind him. Greek #mythology tells us that Orion was known as a talented hunter. His boast that he could rid the Earth of all the wild animals, however, angered the Earth goddess, Gaia. She sent a scorpion to defeat Orion. Orion tried to battle the scorpion, but he quickly realized that he could not shoot his arrow through the creature’s armour. To avoid the scorpion, he jumped into the sea. It was then that Apollo (the Greek god of the Sun) decided to take action. He pointed out to his twin sister, Artemis, a small black object in the sea. Claiming it was a horrible villain, he dared her to shoot it with her bow and arrow. Artemis easily hit the target. When she swam out to retrieve her victim, however, she discovered that the villain was her friend, Orion. Artemis begged the gods to bring Orion back to life, but they refused. To our partners, our clients, and the gaming community... Being at a loss for words is not an excuse for remaining silent. We watched, as many did, the video of George Floyd’s murder. We continue to watch, as many do, the coverage of pain-filled protests happening in cities across America as its citizens cry out for justice and demand safety and accountability from their government. And while this has been happening, we’ve seen some say that gamers, specifically, should “stay in their lane,” and that politics isn’t an issue where our voices are welcomed. Well, that’s complete bullshit and we’re tired of hearing it. The systematic oppression, aggression, fear, and brutality that is placed at the doorstep of Black Americans, as though it was their birthright, has been unacceptable for a very long time. As humans committed to equality and justice we all must speak a better world into existence and work to bring that world to reality. It is too easy to join a lobby, queue up, and leave the problems of the world behind. But we must remember that injustice and brutality continue even when we can lose ourselves in-game. We must remember that the only solution for racism will be found in the collective, proactive actions taken to oppose it. The painful truth is that George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others should be alive, instead of names in an ongoing bloody chapter of our history. That chapter will end when all of us take responsibility, stand together, and decide that enough is enough. If we all dig deep inside ourselves we will find the courage to stand up against the blatant discrimination and brutal treatment of Black Americans at the hands of the police. We’ll find the courage to stand in our own discomfort as we wrestle and reconcile our respective fears with the responsibility to do what is so obviously right. Hace 34 años salió este disco y su portada para mí es muy especial. Mi primer contacto real con un arte de disco fue ver el póster de este album colgado en la pared de un cuarto en mi casa cuando era niña. Un póster enorme típico de los 90s muy bien impreso y en el que se podían apreciar todos los detalles. En ese momento no tenia la capacidad de entender mucho mas allá de lo visual en si en cuanto a significados y aún así recuerdo que me volaba la cabeza y me quedaba un rato mirándolo. Curiosamente escuchar el disco en si vino después y relacionar que era esa su portada, aunque se podría decir que Maiden me acompaño toda la vida porque no recuerdo un momento de no saber quiénes eran. Enseguida pensé que yo que ya dibujaba desde siempre quería hacer eso, porque no solamente ya me encantaba la música en general, sino que ese proceso fue entender que esa imagen era una representación de la música, de las letras, de un concepto. Creo que hasta incluso definió mi estilo, en el sentido de los detalles, las múltiples lecturas y no dejar nada al azar. Y no puedo evitar conectar cada vez que la veo y pensar en que hoy es una realidad aquello que en ese momento, parada fascinada adelante de ese póster a los 7/8 años, era un sueño completamente lejano. Porque aún en ese entonces entendí que el arte visual en la música tiene muchísima importancia, que yo quería y podía representar esas imágenes y que si me esforzaba y aprendía mucho algún día iban a estar colgadas en la pared de un cuarto cualquiera. - @villyvillian on Instagram

Robert Frank Died today. If you don’t know his work well, he changed photography with this book. With these 83 photographs he inspired countless photographers. Frank was a Swiss-born artist who was able to view America from a unique viewpoint that is reserved for outsiders. It was from this vantage point that he was able to show us for who we were and not who we thought we were. He was criticized by critics saying things like the prints were “Flawed by meaningless blur grain, muddy exposure, drunken horizons, and general sloppiness”. He was a gift to photography and a for me his work was like a place I had been in my distant past that I could revisit with only a shifting of my focus. Long live honesty! - @martinhyers on Instagram
