- In Rocky (1976), when he runs through the Italian marketplace, the peoples amused expressions as they look on is genuine, as they had no idea why a man was running back and forth being followed by a van. The man who throws him the orange was completely improvised.

We’ve come a long way with the language we use to talk about our trans brothers and sisters, but we still have a long way to go. Billy Tipton was an American jazz musician, bandleader, and talent broker. For decades, Tipton assumed a male gender identity. Tiptons female birth sex (AFAB) was not publicly revealed until after his death, and the revelation came as a surprise to family and friends. Tiptons music career began in the mid-1930s when he led a band for radio broadcasts. He played in various dance bands in the 1940s and recorded two trio albums for a small record label in the mid-1950s. Thereafter, he worked as a talent broker. Tipton stopped performing in the late 1970s due to arthritis. Tiptons sex was reportedly concealed from the four women who would later call themselves Mrs. Tipton. Tipton kept the secret of his extrinsic sexual characteristics from them by telling them he had been in a serious car accident that resulted in damaged genitals and broken ribs. The existence of Trans people is not something new, they have always been here, are real and valid. We encourage you to learn more about trans people throughout history that have shaped our world. - @thedresscodeproject on Instagram

John made his first appearance on stage at an open mic night, basically on a dare. It was just a little club in Chicago, not even 20 people in there when I got up. I wasn’t the type to heckle, but I’d had a few beers and wasn’t really impressed with what I was hearing and said so under my breath. And someone at the next table said, “Well if it’s so easy, why don’t you get up and do it?” So I said, “Well, maybe I will.” I got up and sang Sam Stone and the audience just sat there. They looked at me, looked at each other, looked at me again… seemed like an eternity and, finally, they started applauding. The owner of the club came up afterwards and offered me a job singing there. I couldn’t believe it. The thing I really remember was that I was more comfortable than I’d ever felt. I just felt like that’s where I belonged. Without those small clubs, John Prine might’ve spent his 50 year career still a mailman. And even after he started playing larger venues, John worked as often as he could with independent venues and promoters. And he always loved popping up at local venues around Nashville. Support your local stages. They are the reason that music continues to live on. #SaveOurStages #restartact Www.saveourstages.com - @john_prine on Instagram

Happy Anniversary Baby, Another year has come and gone and I find myself thinking of when you were here. I know you always said that when one of us goes the other will have to go on and try to find somebody new. That’s easier said than done because it’s not easy. And the reason why is that I’m still in love with you. You’re everywhere I see. I see you in our children, and even in our grandchildren. You’re in our home and I hear you on the radio. I hear you in the beautiful songs you wrote especially for me. A love affair like ours will never die! Wherever you are I will imagine to kiss your lips and hug you so close to me. Thank you for loving me and thank you for allowing me to love you. Happy anniversary baby. You’ll always be my sweetheart. Love, Theresa - @merlehaggardofficial on Instagram
