Derwent River Ascidian Bottles Long Neck, Spirit, Pint, Squared, Trilateral Southern Ice Porcelain, Hand coiled My new Work showing in Handmark Gallery in ‘Celebrating Ceramics”. This group show with works by Ingrid Allik, Nanna Bayer, Sally Curry, Zsolt Faludi, Kadri Parnamets, Ella Noonan, Dawn Oakford, Penny Smith, Mari Ward, Sallee Warner an myself is timed to coincide with the Australian Ceramics Triennale in Hobart 1-4 May 2019 in Hobart. . . In 2018 I created 3000 ceramic artificial spawning habitats (ASH) for CSIRO to support the spawning of the critically endangered and charismatic Spotted Handfish (Brachionichthys hirsutus) in the Derwent River. These ASH which replace valuable spawning habitat previously provided by stalked ascidians (Sycosoa pulchra). These extraordinarily beautiful marine invertebrates have also been depleted by many factors including the introduction of the invasive Northern Pacific Seastar into the Derwent River. In some Spotted Handfish sites boat moorings exist where divers found old glass bottles lobbed overboard by yachties. These glass bottles grew algae and had slowly became habitat. Conscious that I have been making clay ASH to replace ascidian habitat, the natural habitat, I began thinking of glass and clay bottles and these essential materials in contrast to polluting plastics. Having the glass bottles in my studio I began to marry these two stories; of bottles and ascidian habitat loss together into new handbuilt work ‘Derwent River Ascidian Bottles’. These are formed by sculping small ascidian crowns and coiling porcelain one by one into bottles. #anselmkiefer „Für die Planung der Ausstellung ANSELM KIEFER (ab 13.11.) war das Treffen mit dem Künstler ein wichtiger Auftakt. Zusammen mit Direktor Johan Holten besuchte ich Anselm Kiefer in dessen Atelier bei Paris. Es war eine faszinierende Begegnung. In den gigantischen Hallen entfalten die monumentalen Arbeiten eine ergreifende Aura. Besonders interessant war es, das Materiallager anzuschauen. Darin bewahrt Anselm Kiefer eine gut sortierte, aber schier unüberschaubare Menge an Objekten auf, die er für die Assemblagen auf seinen Werken verwendet. Die meistens aus altem Metall bestehenden Fundstücke haben eine historische Patina, die Anselm Kiefer gezielt für die symbolischen Attribute seiner Kunstwerke einsetzt. Os mostramos el que posiblemente sea el sombrero de paja, conocido, más antiguo del mundo que ha llegado casi intacto a nuestros dias. Un sombrero de paja (mal llamado de Panamá) de 1.500 años de antigüedad, encontrado por el Egiptólogo británico Flinders Petries en 1901, durante su segunda campaña de investigación en Egipto. Donado al Museo Pitt Rivers por el Fondo de Exploración de Egipto, esta joya histórica ha sido fechado con las últimas técnicas cientificas entre el 420 y 568 d.C... #DicoRodin 📖 Chaque jour, ouvrons l’abécédaire imaginaire de Rodin et familiarisions-nous avec une œuvre, une technique, un proche, liés à l’artiste : un méli-mélo à prendre au pied de la lettre. 🔎 Sfumato Technique de peinture à l’huile pratiquée par Léonard de Vinci et avant lui par les flamands. Elle consiste à superposer des couches de glacis dans le but de gommer la ligne et les contours des formes au profit d’un effet vaporeux et fondu. Par analogie, les traits à peine définis des marbres de Rodin et leur aspect évanescent évoquent cet effet visuel et cette sensation de flou.
