#novitàdisettembre #tuttiilibricheabbiamolettoinsieme #cristinapetit #beatricevitali - @pulceedizioni on Instagram

Today were remembering the incredible life and legacy of @Irving_Berlin. Berlin passed away today in 1989 at his home in Manhattan, just a few miles from the Lower East Side tenement he lived in when he wrote the first of his 1,500 songs. He was 101 years old. Berlin was celebrated a month later by Edward Sorel with this illustration. When on September 22, 1989, Irving Berlin died at the age of 101, I imagined him being enthusiastically welcomed into heaven by Bach, Schubert, Mozart and Gershwin.” –Sorel - @irving_berlin on Instagram

#OnThisDay in 1787, the United States Constitution was signed. Despite being crafted to guarantee freedom and protect rights, the Constitution enshrined slavery, which was the ultimate denier of these things. However, this did not stop freedom seekers and their allies from striving to create change. How did the evolution of the Constitution and its interpretation affect the Underground Railroad? How did freedom seekers and operatives push the nation to live up to its stated ideals, That all men were created equal? To learn more, check out our recently published article: https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/the-constitution-and-the-underground-railroad.htm Photocredit: Library of Congress #UGRR #NPSNetworkToFreedom #ConstitutionDay - @npsnetworktofreedom on Instagram

#Throwback to this piece I wrote about in collaboration with my friend @alvise.mori The presented Cartier Tank above is extremely special for several reasons. First and foremost, it is one of the largest classic manual Tank Louis ever manufactured, with an impressive size of 27x38mm. It is also the only known rectangular Tank with a lapis lazuli cladding over the 18ct. yellow gold case. And, as if this wasn’t enough, the watch belonged to none other than Alain Delon, famous French actor and style icon of the sixties. Originally purchased by Alain Delon in Cartier’s Paris boutique in 1966, the Tank bears his “AD” monogram engraved on the caseback, confirming the provenance of the piece. Powered by a manual European Watch and Clock Co. movement, it is fitted on an uncommon and interesting white lizard strap, paired to a yellow gold Cartier deployante clasp. The watch first appeared for sale in Hong Kong in 2012, when auction house Cornette de Saint-Cyr sold Delon’s personal collection; despite a very modest estimate of EUR 1800 to 2200, the watch hammered at an astronomical price of 68750 EUR - reportedly purchased by a Chinese collector. The beauty came up for auction again the following year, being featured as Lot 434 in the catalog of Artcurial’s “Fine Watches” sale, held in Montecarlo on July 23, 2013. This time, the estimate was a more appropriate EUR 80000 to 120000, but the lot was withdrawn before the sale. Reference photos used, courtesy of ArtCurial. - @13byvu on Instagram
