Jailed civil rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been hospitalized with a dangerous heart condition, according to BBC Persian. Mentre la guardo, penso non sia un caso se Francesco Vezzoli, per questo numero, l’abbia ritratta nei panni dell’agente segreto Lemmy Caution, protagonista del film Alphaville, pellicola del 1965 girata da Jean-Luc Godard e ambientata in un futuro dove l’umanità è minacciata dalla dittatura tecnocratica. «Be’, in effetti l’argomento mi interessa molto, ho passato tutta l’estate a discutere e interrogarmi sul ruolo attuale della tecnologia». Calibra ogni termine, ripete «questo lo dico però non lo scriva», ragiona ad alta voce e insegue le sue stesse parole come fossero gli abiti più idonei a vestire i suoi pensieri. Today we are celebrating the opening of two major exhibitions! Ghosts from the Recent Past explores how urgencies of the recent past continue to inhabit the present. Framed by key political events of the past 40 years, both in Ireland and further afield, the exhibition presents artworks from the IMMA Collection from the 1980s onwards. Featuring works from IMMA’s Collection together with international collections, the exhibition debuts artworks from the major donation of the Kerlin Gallery Collection to the museum in 2018. At 4pm, we are opening Paul Rego Obedience and Defiance. This is a major retrospective by one of the most influential figurative artists of our time, Paula Rego. The selection of works focuses on the moral challenges to humanity, particularly in the face of violence, gender discrimination and political tyranny. El año pasado, en @tallerdenarrativamdp , me dieron a leer un cuento de Hawthorne llamado Wakefield, que trata de que Hawthorne recuerda haber leído en el diario la presunta historia de un hombre que se ausentó durante mucho tiempo de su hogar. Pasados veinte años, decide volver a su casa y ser un fiel esposo hasta el día de su muerte. En los primeros párrafos, el narrador explica al lector que tratará de conjeturar la posible psicología o el modus operandi de un personaje capaz de llevar a cabo una acción tan “atroz”. Las novelas y cuentos de Hawthorne han sido juzgadas como moralistas y se le ha adjudicado el abuso de la alegoría, por ejemplo, no cualquier narrador hubiese elegido la palabra atroz. Borges, que nunca fue piadoso con quien no se lo merecía, sobre Nathaniel Hawthorne tiene un ensayo en el que argumenta, entre muchas cosas, sobre la importancia que tiene en las novelas la constitución de un personaje. Escribe que, por varios motivos, en el género del cuento las situaciones son lo que más valor le dan a la trama, lo que dan vida al cuento en sí, mientras que en la novela, ese peso lo tiene el personaje, y por tanto, si el personaje no está bien creado, algo eventualmente fallará. Y de Hawthorne dice que era un escritor que pensaba por imágenes, por intuiciones (...), no por un mecanismo dialéctico. Un error estético lo dañó: el deseo puritano de hacer de cada imaginación una fábula lo inducía a agregarles moralidades y a veces a falsearlas y a deformarlas Hasta ahí Borges opina lo mismo que todos, la búsqueda moralista de Hawthorne deforma su búsqueda estética. Sin embargo, no fue ese el caso de Wakefield, ya que ahí, según la opinión del mismisimo Borges, la función estética o estrictamente artística se sobrepuso a la finalidad ética. ¿Por qué defiende este cuento en particular? Personalmente, ayer busqué el cuento para releerlo porque quería escribir algo relativo a los cambios que sufrió un personaje antes - durante - pos pandemia, y el primer cuento que se me vino a la mente fue Wakefield. Director Josh Boone’s adaptation of Marvel Comics‘ 1980s favorite The New Mutants is continuing to take shape at Fox, and it’s looking to another ’80s themed nostalgic property to do so. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Charlie Heaton, best known as Jonathan Byers from Stranger Things, is officially in talks to join the cast of the X-Men spin-off film as Samuel Guthrie, better known as Cannonball. . . . In the comics, Sam has the ability to propel himself into the air, and has a powerful energy field that surrounds him while doing so, which makes him virtually invulnerable. Born this day: Eileen Gray. (9 August 1878 - 31 October 1976) . . Fortunately, Eileen Gray is no longer an overlooked heroine of modernism. Of the many reasons to celebrate her, the fact I love the most is the way she managed to get under the skin of Le Corbusier. Threatened by her strength of will and self-taught accomplishment - as played out through Grays beautiful E1027 architectural masterpiece - Corb built a cabana next door in order to keep a watchful eye on his adversary. The location of these two buildings in Roquebrune Cap-Martin is now known as Avenue le Corbusier. Luciano Cáceres ( @lucianocaceresok )interpreta a Edgar Dupuin, un crítico literario y suerte de enemigo erudito de Luis Peñafiel, protagonista de PUNTO MUERTO (@punto_muerto_pelicula )de Daniel de la Vega (@danieldelavega_cine ). Con un aire excéntrico y pulcro, Dupuin, representa a una elite intelectual cuya función principal es la opinión despiadada y la búsqueda por quitarle credibilidad a Peñafiel, un escritor destacado y ya consagrado que se encuentra presentando su última novela. En este homenaje al cine policial de antaño hay dos puntos que dan forma y origen al concepto del film: la época en la que transcurre y la decisión de filmarla en blanco y negro.
