Project “No Signal” complete. Medium Used: • 2B Pencil • Mechanical Pencil Context: Yes, this year has been the worst year. People have lost loved ones. People have lost jobs. People have lost their sanity. I have not drawn since last year and that was mainly because I fell out of love with drawing. My grandma pushed me to draw more and she was the only person who was the most exited to see me draw and what the outcome would be. I’ve lost the woman who took me in as her son. We looked after each other and had each others back till the end ! During lockdown she was isolated with my uncle and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I weren’t able to see her so I was training everyday (boxing) as an attempt to the numb the situation. But I didn’t draw only because I didn’t want to just ease the pain. I wanted to have a drive to draw, if that makes sense. Once the system eased down she came back home but then she was so close to passing. So they rushed her to hospital, I weren’t allowed to visit her so my uncle would arrange a FaceTime call when she was able to. The name “No signal” came from when she thought she was going to leave us. She kept repeating “no signal”, “there’s no signal” and since then It’s been stuck in my head. On her final day I took a reference photo of her which is the portrait I’ve drawn now. I said to her “when I’m finished I’ll show you, I’ll see you tomorrow”.
