Located in the heart of Bronzeville neighborhood, Overton has served as a place to bring the community together, and keep the school active through art and design installations while the school prepares for its redevelopment as a Business and Technology Incubator. The Climate and Cultural Resilience project uses a large-scale map installation on the grounds of Overton to create awareness about aging infrastructure, increase of impervious surfaces that are contributors to neighborhood flooding, and the need for investment in green infrastructure to promote a more resilient and equitable future. This project integrates a map installation showcasing the permeability of the neighborhood using colored watershed zones, and new rain gardens transforming a surface parking area. Through collaboration with local youth and community residents, this project not only aims to raise awareness on the importance of stormwater management, but also to create a shared understanding of our neighborhoods’ infrastructure, resources and the possibilities to promote resilient communities. Expansion plans have been revealed for Manchesters Space Studios, which will involve the development of two new 20,000 square foot stages at their West Gorton site. The film and TV facility has announced the exciting plans today, which would see it grow its footprint to cover 105,000 square feet of stage space - and with the opening of supporting accommodation, would grow Space Studios to cover a total area of 17 acres. Recent successes for Space Studios have included hit drama Devs, which was broadcast on the BBC and FX on Hulu. Up & Under Hyvinkää, Finland Up & Under seeks to create a coherent, intuitive and pedestrian-focused district around Hyvinkää station area which seamlessly integrates the west with the east into a harmonious city centre. The proposal harnesses the existing connections which make Hyvinkää an important node while finding new seams to connect the station to the city employment areas and recreational nodes in the greater region. It establishes 5 key connectors, new and refurbished, which utilize levels and existing topography to generate vibrant underground spaces and overground solutions, providing a strong green presence, and densifying the area within the vicinity of the station to create an attractive, mixed use centre which combines living with productive activities and celebrates Hyvinkääs industrial legacies. A hyper-real body that, like Spam ®, that canned synthetic meat, which later gave name to unwanted emails serve to define us from the hybrid. The biological and objectified body -exploitable, alterable, augmentable-, converted into a modeled object, becomes digital incorporeity. 🤘A proposal for housing on the Universal Studios backlot with @michael_deprez. It has been our interest to imagine a scenario in which the spectacle of simulated cities that live on the backlot could merge with the day-to-day functions of a real city. It does not claim entertainment as the sole ambition, but rather analyses and evokes it. Through the use of the super-generic, the city fragment, and the graphics of media, the project suggests a new and radical condition of living. // This project is the result of a year’s worth of research under the wonderful instruction of @neil_denari who graciously supported us as we explored our own interests. It is a culmination of interests and passions that have grown immensely during my time at UCLA. The design is built around the idea of sky streets and community spaces that encourage interaction and connection. Spacious open-air sky platforms offer rich amenities and landscaping and act as a bridge to the same thematic zones on different plots. . This pandemic has shown that new approaches are urgently needed to ensure the health and safety of building users. In response to this need the design places a strong emphasis on naturally ventilated public spaces and circulation routes to reduce the time spent in enclosed spaces with potential exposure to pathogens. A series of escalators in the atrium space connect the four different sky streets, forming a 3-dimensional loop which is open to the public and connects the different programmes to each other.
