At 1415 today Woodside Fire along with Cal Fire, Palo Alto Fire and Menlo Park Fire responded to a smoke investigation East of Los Trancos in Portola Valley. Upon arrival crews had smoke with no visible flames. E8 made a quick fire attack and held the fire to a 40X60 area. Strolling through Greenville is like walking back in time. You wont see chain stores, or chain restaurants, or chain anything for that matter; most businesses in Greenville are locally owned. Few towns in California have the personality of Greenville. Aside from the well kept storefronts and building architecture ranging from the 1860s to the 1940s, Greenvilles rural setting alongside the Union Pacific railroad is what makes this town of 1,100 residents so endearing. Located in the northwest corner of the Indian Valley along California Highway 89, surrounded by towering timbered peaks on the northernmost fringe of the Sierra Nevada Range, Greenville is only nine miles from Lake Almanor and the start of the southern Cascade Range, home to Lassen National Park. Greenville was born in the 1860s amidst a quest for gold, but like many other Sierra Nevada frontier towns, as mining played out, logging and ranching grew, and to this day there are still ranches in the Indian Valley, some of which are generational dating back more than 100 years. Logging was prominent in Greenville, especially during World War II, when the appetite for lumber was insatiable. The influx of new residents to California in the 1950s escalated the demand. As a result, lumber and sawmills in Greenville operated around the clock, causing skies choked with smoke from the burning of scrap lumber. However, the economic future of places like Greenville depend greatly on tourism and recreation. Fortunately for local residents, Greenville and the Indian Valley area have no shortage of remote mountain beauty to share with visitors, and as a bonus, very few crowds. Researchers from ETH Zurich have developed a novel technology that produces liquid hydrocarbon fuels exclusively from sunlight and air. For the first time worldwide they demonstrate the entire thermochemical process chain under real field conditions. The new solar mini-refinery is located on the roof of ETHs Machine Laboratory building in Zurich. Carbon-neutral fuels are crucial for making aviation and maritime transport sustainable. ETH researchers have developed a solar plant to produce synthetic liquid fuels that release as much CO2 during their combustion as previously extracted from the air for their production. CO2 and water are extracted directly from ambient air and split using solar energy. This process yields syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which is subsequently processed into kerosene, methanol or other hydrocarbons. These drop-in fuels are ready for use in the existing global transport infrastructure. Aldo Steinfeld, Professor of Renewable Energy Carriers at ETH Zurich, and his research group developed the technology. This plant proves that carbon-neutral hydrocarbon fuels can be made from sunlight and air under real field conditions, he explained. The thermochemical process utilises the entire solar spectrum and proceeds at high temperatures, enabling fast reactions and high efficiency. Ontarios best reuse and recycling program—the deposit return program for wine, beer, and liquor containers— is under threat. As the province drafts a new regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, it’s considering letting producers opt-out of the existing deposit system. This is a huge step in the wrong direction and will erode the success of the program over time. What Ontario really needs is more DRPs, not less. Instead of threatening the existing DRP, Ontario should be looking for ways to expand it to include non-alcoholic beverage containers like pop and water bottles. Currently, less than half the plastic drink bottles sold in the province are collected for recycling through the Blue Box. That means 1.5 billion bottles end up as trash or litter every year and contribute to the 10,000 tonnes of plastic trash entering the Great Lakes annually. NO + AVES RAPACES MUERTAS ..!! German Elst @ger.elst , es un amigo amante se las aves rapaces y de la naturaleza en general , el vive en la Turistica Ciudad del Calafate en Argentina , el dia de ayer mientras se dirigia a su domicilio se percato de la presencia de un halcon peregrino ( Falco peregrinus ) posado en un poste del tendido electrico , frente al parque Manuel Belgrano, mientras contemplaba al ave se percato que miraba algo hacia un lugar cercano donde el se encontraba , al proceder a inspeccionar el terreno se encontro con un pato real ( anas sivilatrix ) el cual yacia muerto aparentemente como presa de ese gran halcon , por lo que procedio abandonar el lugar para que el halcon pudiera recuperar su presa que por algún motivo desconocido la dejo en ese lugar . German acudio horas mas tarde al mismo sector con la finalidad de ver si el halcon habia recuperado su presa lo que no habia echo , pero el ave aún permanecia ahi perchada acicalandose tranquilamente . Hoy en horas de la mañana nuestro amigo paso por el mismo lugar y se pudo percatar que el halcon peregrino yacia muerto bajo el poste donde habia sido visto el dia anterior con un impacto de bala en su pecho , quedando totalmente desconcertado por el echo con una gran sensación de angustia y fustracion , por la pesima desicion que tomo algun vecino del sector quien decidio ajusticiarlo y quitar la vida a tan hermosa e imponente ave . #PANUL10AÑOS Las fotos más antiguoas que tenemos del #BosquePanul son de hace 10 años, de Agosto del 2010, es por eso que hace unas semanas hicimos el ejercicio de intentar sacar las mismas fotos exactamente en los mismos lugares #10añosDespués y estos son algunos de los resultados. Por suerte este año volvió a llover bastante lo que hizo que las herbáceas crecieran como verde pasto en el suelo del bosque, pero es evidente que la sequía que se arrastra hace algunos años hico grandes daños en el follaje de los árboles antes frondosos y verdes. Claramente ahora va mucho más gente al bosque que hace 10 años, los lugares que antes eran lejanos ahroa sufren la erosión del suelo, principalmente por las bicicletas que desertificaron y deforestaron abriendo nuevos e innecesarios caminos. Si bien hay algunos lugares que han mejorado porque ya no se usan y fueron limpiados, la verdad es que es notorio el impacto de un Parque de Facto en terreno privado del cual nadie se quiere hacer realmente cargo. El recorrido atraviesa el lado Sur del bosque, pasando por la Plaza de Saltos, primera y segunda torre, el antiguo letrero del #SenderoDeChile y finalmente al Portezuelo Las Lagunitas en el Cerro Chequén Grande. BUDOVANÁ TRAŤ MÁ SVOU HISTORII I Novým úsekem tramvajové tratě prodlužujeme stávající trať v ulici Na Pankráci ke stanici metra Pankrác. Nově budovaný úsek tramvajové tratě vede přesně v místech historické tramvajové tratě, která byla opuštěna v roce 1974 v důsledku zahájení provozu metra na trase C a prosazování tehdejší koncepce rušení tramvajové dopravy v centru a v oblastech nově obsloužených metrem. 🚋➡️ Pojďme se ale podívat na historii budované tramvajové trati: Tramvaje začaly na Pankrác jezdit před 95 lety díky prodloužení tratě z Nuslí na dnešní náměstí Hrdinů. O 5 let později, 29. května 1930 byla trať prodloužena z náměstí Hrdinů přes Lísek (později nazývaný Budějovické náměstí) až na Kačerov. V roce 1938 byla zprovozněna větev Budějovické náměstí – Ryšánka. Původní tramvajová trať vedla až po autobusové nádraží Pankrác (dnes na jeho místě stojí administrativní komplex Gemini) ulicí 5. května, ale v důsledku stavby II. severojižní magistrály a návazné dálnice D1 byla přeložena na moderní vlastní těleso do rozšířené souběžné ulice Na Pankráci. Ve stejné době byl ze stejných důvodů ukončen i provoz na trati z Budějovického náměstí na Kačerov. Zprovoznění trasy C pražského metra a prosazování koncepce MHD, omezující podíl tramvajové dopravy, znamenal konec tramvají v oblasti Krče, Budějovického náměstí a Pankráce obecně. 🚋➡️ Podívejte se na historické fotografie Lubomíra Kysely. Cartoon by @kasiababiscomics #ProfWolff explained this premise in a recent #AskProfWolff video... “The profits of employers are the difference between the value added by the workers labor and what is paid to that worker for adding that value by his or her brains and muscle being used as the employer directs… [Many] dont like this argument because it is the origin, the source, of profit is kind of “ripping off of the working class.” Thats right. Workers produce more value than they get paid in value… The notion that the employer is grabbing something that the workers produced is what makes people not like this theory… .
