Chevy Station Wagon (2+2a-i) 🆒🔝🆒 ========================= (1952,Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon. The short story – extracts: Until 1949, many Chevy station wagon bodies were constructed with wood on doors & side trims. But in 1950 they launched an all steel Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon (as in photo, though it’s a MY 1952). At a glance the 1949 Chevy wood bodied and the 1950 steel bodied wagons looked identical,since the steel bodied version had the former wooden areas finished in a “wood lookalike” painting. By ‘50,the wood bodied wagon was gone, but the public had accepted that the Chevy Styleline Deluxe Station Wagon now was steel, though being a “Woodie lookalike”. This all steel body station wagon was produced from 1950-52 (after 1952 it was renamed to “The Two-Ten” or “210”). And now ... a little background info on the body style: Station Wagon or Estate car – 2 names for the same type of car🤓 Both are words for the body style variant of a sedan with its roof extended rearward (therefore sometimes nicknamed ”Longroof”) over a shared passenger/cargo volume with access at the back via a third or fifth door (the liftgate or tailgate),instead of just a trunk lid. The body style transforms a standard three-box design into a two-box design, to include an A, B, and C-pillar, as well as a D-pillar. Station wagons can most often flexibly reconfigure their interior volume via fold-down rear seats to prioritize passenger and/or cargo volume. The two different words reflect the common names used respectively in American, Canadian, New Zealand and Australian English, where it’s called “STATION WAGON” (or just “WAGON”) and with “ESTATE” being the common word used in the rest of the English-speaking world. Both names harken to the car’s role as a shuttle, with storage space for baggage, between country estates and train stations. In Germany (and many other countries) the name “KOMBI” is commonly used (the German abbreviation of “Kombinationswagen” aka Combination Car in English). Personne n’aura dicté à Gréco ce quelle devait faire. Penser. Aimer. Chanter. Voilà ce qui nous restera. Plus encore que sa voix profonde et puissante. Plus encore que son chant théâtral et sophistiqué. Davantage même que son allure, incarnation d’une femme française fantasmée, mystérieuse et fatale. Ce qu’elle nous lègue surtout, c’est un formidable esprit de liberté, dindignation et de courage. Chaque rencontre avec elle était ainsi : une fête de l’intelligence, quelques coups de colère face au monde qui va mal, et un numéro de charme auquel il était impossible de résister. Mine de rien, elle soignait son propre mythe. On le savait, et on sen régalait. On aurait aimé que cela ne sarrête jamais. Mais les légendes survivent à l’éphémère. Si Gréco nous laisse un peu orphelins, son histoire na pas fini de nous inspirer. En hommage à la chanteuse disparue mercredi dernier, Télérama publie un hors série piloté par Valérie Lehoux. Des folles années de Saint-Germain, dans le Paris meurtri de la guerre et de l’après-guerre, jusqu’au dernier moment, elle aura vécu une vie sans demi-mesure et affranchie. Juliette Gréco (1927-2020) nous a quittés à 93 ans. Mais ses chansons nous accompagnent. Pour longtemps.
