Here’s some information on the build from Daniel: The stock front end was replaced with upside-down CRF450 motocross forks, lowered to achieve the right stance and stiffened up for mainly fun road use, yokes, brake assembly and front wheel. Wheels rebuilt with Stainless spokes and nipples on gloss black hubs. At the rear, a rebuilt 18″ wheel and chunky Michelin Anakee tyre with all new linkage bearings and seals fitted and original shock fully rebuilt with stiffer spring. A custom subframe supporting the custom leather seat, minimalist rear mudguard and led taillight. A top yokes hold super wide flat track bars and a simple but modernised Trailtech computer, a quick-action throttle and Pro Taper levers. The small 4” yellow lens headlight lends to the classic retro look. The manual decompressor lever has moved to the right side as the bars are so wide the cable won’t reach to the left! Intuitive works well on the throttle side engaged with your thumb as you kick start the bike. Weight is down and power is up from a 630cc big bore, performance cam (auto decompressor removed) fed by a big Keihin FCR41MX carb via a performance K&N filter. The carb has been re-jetted and needled to deal with the increased air/fuel mix and full bespoke performance exhaust system. The professionally done paintwork is classic Honda silver with Honda Sunset Stripes detail on to the 1979 XL175 tank and accented on the front and rear mudguard, bringing a classy, classic look to this big XR. The wide bars and endless torque sum up the hand painted words on the tank, Smiles for Miles….. here’s hoping for an endless summer and Smiles for Miles. Dan Ridge.
