1858, Mirza Jani Beg, Tomb Thatta. Photograph of Mirza Jani Beg’s tomb at Thatta in Sindh, taken by William Robert Houghton in 1858. This image is part of an album documenting notable tombs at the necropolis at Thatta, which Houghton photographed at the request of the Government of Bombay. Jani Beg was a member of the Tarkhan Dynasty (1554-1591) and the last independent ruler of Sindh before its annexation by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1591. He was reinstated as governor of Thatta after his submission and died in c.1599. His mausoleum is an octagonal brick structure with a domed roof in the tradition of Islamic funerary architecture and stands on a terraced platform in a walled enclosure. The tomb is part of a great necropolis, reputedly the largest in the world, which lies on the plateau of the Makli hills, a limestone outcrop to the west of Tatta. The necropolis contains over a million graves, including the mausoleums of Sindh’s rulers. A few days before the Delhi Durbar of December 1911, people began to pour into Delhi from all parts of India and beyond to watch the coronation festivities. The roads were washed; oil was sprinkled to keep the dust down; and the city looked spick and span. Motor cars which had hardly ever been seen before, came into Delhi and raced on the roads; and horses and elephants were seen everywhere. Queer-looking carriages passed through the Chandni Chowk and the Chawri Bazar, and strange faces were visible all around. Most fantastic and colourful dresses rustled in the streets of Delhi from long robes to short coats, and gowns to waistcoats, and head gears of a hundred kinds. Near the Fort, the glacis was levelled into terraces, and the slope leading upwards towards the road was turned into hundreds of stands which encircled the whole of the Jama Masjid, and along the Esplanade Road. From end to end of the Chandni Chowk, the central causeway was turned into one long line of wooden stands. In front of the Town Hall and around the statue of the English Queen, one enormous stand was erected. The stands continued through the Fatehpuri Bazar with its majestic mosque and grateful shadows, and continued to the Mori Gate and beyond. All this made Delhi look more like an exhibition ground than the city which was once the greatest in Hindustan. The younger population became enthusiastic at the prospect of watching the procession of the King. A real king they had never seen; and the stories they had heard about royal processions from their elders seemed to be coming true at last. They were dying to see the big fair. For the residents of Delhi never miss an opportunity of enjoying themselves, and this quality is peculiar to Delhi-ites alone of all the peoples of India. Even during the terrible days of 1857, when the guns were spitting fire, they used to climb up on the roofs to watch the fun of cannon balls shooting red hot out of the cannons mouths, and compared the firing to fireworks during the festival of Shab-barat. In the 15th century, the Portuguese captured some parts of India and Oman, and planned to proceed with annexation of the coastal area of Makran. The Portuguese attacked the Coastal belt of Makran under the leadership of Vasco da Gama after an intense fight the Portuguese were defeated by the Baloch forces under the command of Mir Ismaheel Hoth. Though The Portuguese looted and set coastal villages on fire, but failed to capture the coastal belt of Makran. Mir Ishaheels grave is situated near the Mountain of Batal Gwadar, constructed by Mir Ismaheel during his life. After Mir Ismaheels regime, his nephew Mir Hammal Khan son of Mir Jihand Khan Baloch, became the ruler of Kech. In the regime of Mir Hammal Khan, the Portuguese attacked the coastal belt of Makran many times under the command of Lowess Dee Almia, but they were defeated on each attempt. After many such defeats, Lowess Dee Almia made a pact with Mir Hammal Baloch, and one of the clauses of the pact was that Lowess Dee Almia will not attack the Makran coastal area. However, the Portuguese broke the pact and attacked Mir Hammal Khan when he was with some friends at sea. After the attack, the Portuguese kidnapped Mir Hammal Khan and took him to an unidentified place. Mr. R. Huges Buller has written in his book Makran Kalmatis that the fort and a well are still situated near Gwadar, called Gazdan. Cannons of the Portuguese army were found abandoned, lying near the central jail of Gwadar. The snatched weapons from the Portuguese have also been seen in 1904 at the Pasni Port Balochistan. 30 September 1965 ! Hari ini, tepat 55 tahun lalu, pada Kamis sekira Pukul 10.00 WIB, Jenderal (Anumerta) Ahmad Yani, Panglima Angkatan Darat RI meresmikan jembatan terpanjang di Asia Tenggara pada masa itu, dengan nama Jembatan Bung Karno. Jembatan sepanjang 1.177 meter ini membentang kokoh diatas Sungai Musi, Palembang. Proyek prestisius kebanggaan Bangsa Indonesia kala itu, akhirnya selesai dibangun dan siap untuk digunakan. . Penekanan sirine tanda selesainya jembatan ini dilakukan oleh Jend. Ahmad Yani didampingi Gubernur Sumatera Selatan, Brigjen. TNI H. Abu Yasid Bustomi atas nama Presiden Republik Indonesia yang terhalang hadir. Kemudian sore harinya, Jend. Ahmad Yani bertolak dari Lapangan Terbang Talang Betutu, Palembang menuju Lapangan Terbang Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta. . . Tragis, pada malamnya beliau diculik dan ditembak mati oleh pasukan Tjakrabirawa, sebelum akhirnya pada dini hari, Jumat 1 Oktober 1965 terkubur bersama 6 perwira lainnya di Sumur Lubang Buaya dalam tragedi pengkhianatan G30S/PKI. Setelah keluarnya Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret (Supersemar) 1966, berakhirnya masa Orde Lama dan dimulainya masa Orde Baru yang dipimpin oleh Presiden Soeharto, maka Jembatan Bung Karno diubah nama menjadi Jembatan Ampera yang merupakan kepanjangan dari Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat. . Untuk mengenang sang jenderal yang gugur setelah meresmikan jembatan ini, ruas jalan protokol sisi selatan Jembatan Ampera diberi nama Jalan Jend. Ahmad Yani yang kini membentang dari Kecamatan Jakabaring hingga ke Kecamatan Seberang Ulu II, Kota Palembang, Sumatera Selatan. . Old Delhi street Photograph, Jama Masjid in Background – c1910 History of Jama Masjid : The Masjid-i Jehan Numa (lit. the World-reflecting Mosque or Mosque of the Celestial Sphere; Persian: مسجد جامع دهلی), commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India.It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656 at a cost of one million rupees, and was inaugurated by Imam Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari from Bukhara, present-day Uzbekistan. The mosque was completed in 1656 AD with three great gates and two 40 metres high minarets constructed with strips of red sandstone and white marble. The courtyard can accommodate more than 25000 people. There are three domes on the terrace which are surrounded by the two minarets. On the floor, a total of 899 black borders are marked for worshippers. The architectural plan of Badshahi Masjid, built by Shah Jahans son Aurangzeb at Lahore, Pakistan, is similar to the Jama Masjid. The Majestic Mosque for Indian Muslims is considered as the National Mosque of India respectively. Many Americans still do not know about Operation Ajax: a covert regime-change operation that changed the course of history in Iran and the world. On August 19th, 1953 the American and British Intelligence led a coup d’etat that overthrew Iran’s democratically elected prime minister Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh. Dr. Mossadegh nationalized Irans oil industry, which had for years been fully controlled by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company - currently known as the British Petroleum - and was only a source of little revenue for the country. In response, agents, mobs, and mercenaries were paid and trained by the CIA to overthrow Mossadeghs government. Amidst nationwide protests, Mohammad Reza Shah, was re-installed by the USA as the Shah and ruler of Iran. The growing despair and discontent around the country culminated in a massive uprising that toppled the Shahs regime in 1979. These events stifled hopes for democracy in Iran and embittered Iran-US relations into the current day in the 21st century. The 1953 coup in Iran was the first time the CIA orchestrated the overthrow of a democratically elected government. The success of this operation encouraged the USA to carry out similar operations all across Latin America. The USA finally acknowledged its role in the coup in August 2013, with further documents released as late as March 2018. The current administration in the USA did not appear out of nowhere. It was the direct result of decades of injustice and the American abuse of power at all levels. What we witness now in the USA is but a glimpse at the horror and suffering that this countrys imperialist ethos has caused for the rest of the world. At this moment in history, it is crucial for Americans of all political ideologies to break free from the systems that propagate the narratives of superiority. Now more than ever our struggles are intertwined.
