La Copa Argentina de Skateboarding es el campeonato nacional amateur por regiones realizado desde hace tres años por la Federación Argentina de Skateboarding y que incluye las categorías sub 14, sub 18, femenino y amateur. La final nacional de los clasificados en el año 2019 se realizó el 22 de febrero en el parque Scalabrini Ortiz de la ciudad de Rosario, juntándose así unos 125 skaters de las distintas regiones desde la Patagonia hasta el NOA. El campeonato fue coordinado localmente entre Big Jump Skatepark y Sorrento Open Club con la participación de la Asociación Rosarina de Skate y los jueces invitados fueron Martín Fábrega (Liga Patagónica), Pedro Arce (Circuito Cordobés de Skate) y Daniela Suarez (Girls Invasion). En la categoría femenina Ailin Arzúa se llevó el triunfo y la copa en su categoría, mientras que Facundo Quiroga logró alzarse con la copa de la máxima categoría de este campeonato (amateur). El campeón de la categoría sub 18 fue el local Tobías Castageroni, mientras que el ganador de la categoría sub 14 fue Juan Bautista Amelino de Baradero (pcia de Buenos Aires). Durante la competencia, los jueces también debieron elegir los dos mejores trucos: Rodrigo Zaragoza de Córdoba y Nicole Duarte de Buenos Aires fueron l@s ganadores, llevándose $5.000 en efectivo cada un@. From the markets of Bali to the uncrowded surf breaks of Sumba to the remote fishing villages of Central Sulawesi - this episode was a surreal ride. Episode 2 of Into Water - Indonesia drops today. Link in bio. @shannonswitzerswanson recently spent the year in the remote Banggai Archipelago in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia studying the local fishing population to learn why some families practiced ecologically responsible practices and others didnt. To spend a year in a remote village like Toropot (let alone find it!) is a true testament to Shannons character. Driven by a passion for her work and Indonesia Shannon has made a second home in Central Sulawesi as a marine social ecologist (and surfer). A special shout out to @caseysapp - an absolute legend in the underwater camera and VR space. Casey was gracious enough to say yes to this expedition amid visa and permitting uncertainty (it is notoriously hard to permit a film production in Indonesia). He and he alone leads the charge for the best underwater immersive visuals. Thank you! It was a pleasure to experience this place with you. Dave Hackett or Aaron Astorga told Ray Zimmerman and I about this ten minute barger in Leucadia about ten years ago. Ray and I were leaving San Diego on a Sunday morning early as we had been at an event down south. We arrived at the house and it was super quiet and still. We went to sneak in and as I climbed over the fence, my shoelace caught on the top and I fully slammed making all kinds of racket. Needless to say, once we got inside, we knew it was a definite ten minute roll. I wanted a nose bonker on a rock. First one I took to my head on the drain. Next one up, I put it down. I recently did a project with @steveo where we shot this double wallride photo and offered to sign prints of it, with all proceeds going to @theskateparkproject (see his YouTube video for the whole story and our failed attempts). The frontside ollie changed my life in 1978 or so when I first Alan Gelfand do one in Skateboarder Magazine and I thought the photo was so stunningly unbelievable that it was most likely faked, on the idea that it wasn’t possible to fly a skateboard through the air, off a vertical wall and land back down on the same wall, without some kind of attachment or grabbing the damn thing. And especially not Frontside, where you can’t really see where you’re landing either. For those that don’t know, this was also the era of “Skyhooks” and Velcro “suspenders”, so there was at least some reason to be skeptical, especially living in Sweden and having no way whatsoever to verify any of this. Then my arch nemesis, best friend of all time and one of the most talented skateboarders I have ever seen, Per Viking, decided that he didn’t need any technical or logical analysis or verification, he was just gonna do it! Because he tried, I had no choice but to try also. After days, neither of us had gotten more than an inch above the lip but one day I showed up at our local park, New Sport House and Per was just blasting the most beautiful frontside ollies ever! Somehow he had figured out the secret of hitting the tail on the vert (our ramp had no coping), and moving the board in the air with his feet and body weight that made it look just like Alan Gelfand’s Ollie Air. Having seen up close how to do it, I had a fighting chance but it took me weeks, if not months to get even close to what Per did in just one day. I’ll never forget the lessons I learned from Per Viking, a snot noosed scrawny kid with more balls and talent than most and really only One D-Way comes to mind. At some point in Sweden, I told all my friends that one of my goals was to one day do frontside ollie not only better than Per but better than Gelfand. This drew much laughter and ridicule of course. But I’ve spent a lifetime loving and appreciating the Frontside Ollie, I think it’s fundamental and one of the most important tricks ever invented and still, one of the most enjoyable to do. Steven Pineiro came from Puerto Rico to skate in California a number of years ago and recently, stopped by Bob’s Dreamland to shoot this totally insane Back Nose Blunt on the 13 Ft. concrete vertical wall with Chris Dangaard. We gave him some Ale Mazzara decks to take back to the PR, where he’s living now, representing his country in the Olympic trials. Flawless 10-12 feet, 3 guys out. A session I’ll never forget. Besides the surf being as good as it could possibly get, one thing that made this session stand out more than maybe any other, was that they were performing a sound check on the judges tower that day. The guy blasted Metallica for over an hour, it was nuts. Stoked to have shared this session with Frederico and @danilosurfcosta. And of course thanks @friedenpete for nailing this shot. Anyone who knew Danny saw that he would help anyone who needed it. In his life, he took so many people under his wing and showed them how to really live and enjoy life, myself included. He shaped so much of who I am today. Soon after meeting Dan I found myself in the backseat of his new convertible driving to Austria with him and @tariq_kinani , surreal to say the least! We only had 2 cds to listen to that entire journey, High Contrast - Confidental and Best of Def Leppard and somehow, by luck of good company, neither got annoying in those two weeks. The stories he would tell me of his past would always have me in stitches and disbelief - the man lived more lives than anyone Ive ever known! As the result of some hilarious mishap, he found himself in spending more and more time in Thailand. There he fostered an entire community of skateboarders and developed a skate scene, shop and brand that brought joy to the lives of everyone involved. All this while acting as the foundation for his family back in Holyhead. At 25, after a year of living in London struggling to find consistent work, I moved back to Cardiff. Danny saw that I wasnt doing much there and bought me a flight to Thailand to come live with him. Within the first week of being there he had me tattoo Bastard onto his wrist - he was stuck with me for life. If anyone needed anything he would do everything within his power to help them, without question. His actions were a reflection of the person he was. He wasnt the kind of person to talk shit on people behind their backs or paint himself to be the best person in a situation. Hed never shy away from responsibility and did what needed to be done. He did everything his own way and it pains me knowing there wont be any more spontaneous adventures together. Ive had the pleasure of seeing Dan go on to excel as a father and my thoughts are with his family in this incredibly difficult time. I take comfort in knowing that through those he was closest, his spirit and outlook on life will live on. Wherever he went he left his mark. Thank you for being uncompromisingly you Dan, youve given the rest of us something to aim for. - @absolutebastard on Instagram
