two weeks from today, on October 6, my best friend Emily would have turned 30 years old. she died when I was 15 years old in a tragic ATV accident. She was in a coma for 34 days before eventually succumbing to her injuries and leaving this earth. At the time of her death, she was the most important person in my life. There aren’t many memories I have of my adolescent years that don’t include her. Losing Emily was the hardest thing I’ve ever gone through. I still miss her, at some point, every single day. two weeks from today, on October 6, my book Vagina Problems will be released into the world. I had no choice in the publication date of my book. But when I was told that it would be published on October 6, I felt Emily in that moment. I’m not a religious person and have never felt particularly connected to the idea of our loved ones congregating somewhere in the universe, waiting for us to someday meet them there. But in that moment, I *knew* that Emily was with me. October 6 has always been a difficult day for me. It’s impossible to not think of how much I’ve missed out on with my best friend. It’s impossible to not ponder who she would be if she were still here today. But now, October 6 has a new meaning. It will always be Emily’s birthday. Are anxiety and depression serious problems? What are your thoughts? My aim here was to show how intense an anxiety attack can be, in an abstract manner. A friendly reminder to check up on your friends/family and simply asking them how they’re doing, mentally, every once in a while. Sometimes its not just the ones giving out obvious signs of depression/anxiety, ironically, its the ‘happy’ ones who are always trying to make everyone smile/laugh. In short, be kind and lift eachother up, we can’t afford to lose any more lives. Sometimes, just an ‘are you okay’ is enough to get you through. If anyone with anxiety or depression is reading this, know that you’re not alone and everything will be okay one day, I promise. 🤍 Ps. I had very limited resources because of corona, so couldn’t shoot much, I had something much bigger and much more powerful in mind but this is all for now.
