It’s been one year since I started playing the drums so I could be in a band with @annasaurus_wrex @djemmapeel and Ginger! Proving that it’s never too late and you’re never too old. First time I heard @siksa_forever during @unsoundfestival 2017 and it was one of the strongest concert experiences I have ever had. So when Henry Reese from @cityofasylum (Pittsburgh, US) asked me to participate in Jazz Poetry Month 2020, first thing I thought was to call @alex__freiheit (half of Siksa) to ask her if she can join in. She wrote this amazing poem in few hours! I wrote music based on sound of processed alto clarinet and tape loops. Arek Blomka made video recording and editing. Everything was recorded in one take at @jerrymaczynski amazing working space with small swimming pool (is there anyone else down there who has swimming pool at rehearsing space???) new york born and miami-raised cuban/dominican freestyle artist coro got his start in the entertainment business in the mid-1980’s after landing a few roles in the quintessential 80’s mtv-esque cop show “miami vice.” it was during the this time that the florida freestyle sound began to emerge thanks to girl group exposé and stevie b. . in 1987, stevie b.’s “spring love” was exploding at radio and coro toured with stevie as a background singer and dancer. it was this experience that propelled his move to new york to pursue his own solo career. it wasn’t long before coro signed with then prominent dance label cutting records for him to score his own hit with “where are you tonight.” the emotional freestyle track quickly garnered major rotation on both florida and new york radio in 1989. . “can’t let you go” was released in the spring of 1990. one of the first songs to begin incorporating a rap break, “can’t let you go” not only proved that coro was not a one hit wonder, but it solidified him as one of freestyle music’s exiting new artists - during a time when the genre was becoming synonymous with off-key vocalists and over produced video game sounding tracks. no shade, but i now like a lot of that crap. . “can’t let you go” performed better at both the radio and club level peaking at #18 on the dance chart. the success of both “where are you tonight” and “can’t let you go” helped land coro a deal with the major label charisma records. he would go on to release his debut album and score his biggest hit “fallen angel” the following year. but when freestyle began to go into a tailspin in mid-1992, like most freestyle artists signed to major labels, coro was dropped by late 1992. he would still go to release music with cutting records including the 1993 super dope ass song “stand by your lover.” - @lou_rok on Instagram

This Freaky Fridays RARO will make you move, while sending chills down your spine: São Paulo based composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, @ricoaj, is one of Brazilian dance music’s foremost creative minds. Following 2018’s vivid, instrumentally rich EP Mitos Poréns, Jorge has ploughed his furrow of colourful song-structured electronic compositions to much aplomb. Something doesn’t have to be perfect to be right, and songs and songwriters are malleable shifting things that can’t always be pinned down. — Before I started the lettering for this new collection of unreleased Townes recordings, art director @chunkletindustries suggested I look to the famous lettering for the Heartworn Highways documentary/album for inspiration. It’s great lettering evocative of that era. But all the photos available for the layout were casual, personal snapshots, taken at small bars or venues later in Townes’ life. And from what I was told, these are more personal, intimate recordings (I haven’t heard the record yet). So instead of giving the lettering the fully rendered treatment as for a proper album, I thought it made sense to simply do a pretty good sketch in a classic honky tonk style. Henry agreed this was the right road to go down and that’s where it ended up. There’s no big production to the recordings, so the text follows suit. — I left in some incomplete or abandoned ideas for flourishes, lines where I was trying to find shapes, and other relics of the process. In places there are proportions and balance that are a bit “off” and I purposefully didn’t go back to correct them. That’s how the letters got played this time around. If I ever had another time to play with this group of words they might look a bit different; maybe better, maybe not; a little looser or tighter in spots; the lilt of their arcs might be go higher or lower; the rhythm of the verticals might shift; some new connections (ligatures) attempted or found. What separates lettering from type is that, like a great song, it never comes out the same way twice. — It was hard to keep a lid on this one the last few months. In early August, we trekked out to the desert and shot the “Life Is a Bore” music video in 110+ degree heat. With high hopes and hot heads, we finished filming in just under 7 hours. Even though we could’ve grilled a steak on the pavement, we stuck it out and watched the sun simmer down below the horizon as we sped out of the sands and back through the canyon. I’m a puddle today. I started writing this album almost four years ago. It started on a major, got dropped from a major then took a nearly 2.5 year breather while I wrote my book, which comes out digitally all over the world tomorrow and is written about many of the same stories in the album. A few last minute songs were added and recorded in my dads office in Winnipeg during the early days of quarantine. I certainly don’t need to tell you all what a strange fucking time it is but putting out a project that is this deeply personal amidst this bleak landscape feels so deeply connecting. I feel so connected to you even as I lay on this couch in Winnipeg beside that fireplace holding this teddy bear @wafiaaa and @grandson just sent me. I am so grateful to the people who helped me make this album. @_alexandervincent who started this album with me when I was still figuring out what it even was❤️ who’s friendship and support and subtle, powerful production encouraged me to find myself after splitting from Wdarlz @starsmith who produced and co-wrote #getaway with me. (Also, big thanks to all the other artists who passed on it.
