Did you know 94% of plastics in the ocean are not visible because they sit below the ocean surface? Plastics such as HDPE, LDPE and PP have a density less than seawater, allowing them to float. Over time, algae and marine life attach to the floating plastics, causing them to sink into the depths of the ocean. I am a member of StopPlasticstoronto but I also belong to a local walking group so I decided to incorporate the two! When walking in local parks and ravines I carry my grabbers and a bag and cleanup what I can. This mess was the result of only four walks and I could have picked up much, much more but my bag filled quickly. And then it hit me...I cannot take responsibility for all of this plastic waste.
