My friend @jeremyrobinlyons would have been behind the keys. Instead, Jeremys graduate conducting program at CCM shut down in March and he moved back in with his parents. No final project, no cumulative moment of standing in front of a group of singers and musicians to give a downbeat and hear a wall of empathetic sound come back at him. So Jeremy made this. Well - there are many people who made this. Singers Ive worked with for years, like @emmahunton and @ciararenee8 ; @kaitkerrigan , an ambassador for the NYCLU; longtime collaborators on instruments; friends I met in the Philippines or Europe - all performing the closing song from an immersive house party musical that celebrates being deeply present in a physical space. So many people I love so much are part of this wall of empathetic sound, but Jeremy gave the downbeat. Maybe well make theatre that feels physical, present and immediate again. Maybe well make something else. This is a fundraiser for the NYCLU. Theyve been out in front of racial justice work for a century. #SEC ARTES VISUALES Concluyeron los Encuentros de pensamiento y acción audiovisual A lo largo de cuatro jornadas se desarrollaron los Encuentros de pensamiento y acción audiovisual, organizados por el gobierno de Santa Cruz, a través de la Dirección de Artes Visuales de la Secretaría de Estado de Cultura de la provincia y el auspicio de la Fundación del Banco Santa Cruz. Realizados de manera virtual con la plataforma Zoom, estos encuentros contaron con la producción general de la gestora cultural Marcela Andino. El primer encuentro estuvo a cargo de Jazmín Adler quien desplegó un recorrido por la historia de las artes visuales en torno a la compleja relación entre obras de arte y los dispositivos tecnológicos, rescatando el muchas veces oculto papel determinante que las artistas mujeres han tenido. En el segundo y tercer encuentro, coordinado por Fabiana Gallegos, se trabajó con un grupo más reducido de participantes interesades en realizar una práctica concreta dentro del audiovisual experimental, quienes exploraron las posibilidades de expresión del Zoom, realizando un ensayo en vivo que fue transmitido por el Facebook de la cartera cultural. Por último, Marcela Andino, guió un conversatorio con productores culturales de distintos países: Carla Zaccagnini, Mario Gutiérrez Cru, Ángela López Ruiz, Paloma Navarro y Hernán Khourian, que versó sobre el efecto de la pandemia en los festivales y realizaciones audiovisuales y su adaptación a las nuevas condiciones sanitarias. I was scheduled to be rehearsing an open-ended run of Bad Years this summer. My friend @jeremyrobinlyons would have been behind the keys. Instead, Jeremys graduate conducting program at CCM shut down in March and he moved back in with his parents. No final project, no cumulative moment of standing in front of a group of singers and musicians to give a downbeat and hear a wall of empathetic sound come back at him. So Jeremy made this. Well - there are many people who made this. Singers Ive worked with for years, like @emmahunton and @ciararenee8 ; @kaitkerrigan , an ambassador for the NYCLU; longtime collaborators on instruments; friends I met in the Philippines or Europe - all performing the closing song from an immersive house party musical that celebrates being deeply present in a physical space. So many people I love so much are part of this wall of empathetic sound, but Jeremy gave the downbeat. Maybe well make theatre that feels physical, present and immediate again. Maybe well make something else. This is a fundraiser for the NYCLU. Theyve been out in front of racial justice work for a century. Introducing Virtual Workshop Assistant: Emma Tamayo! After assisting many of our in-person conventions last year, we are thrilled to have Emma join us again at Thrive for our Virtual Workshops! Though Emma has danced her whole life, the past five years as an elite team member at Victoria’s School of Dance have inspired her to take her passion outside of her home studio. Emma has attended an abundance of workshops and conventions, many of which she has been a scholarship winner, including Revel, Wild Dance Intensive, Tribe, Ballet Matters, and PowerPak. As she began to spread her wings, Emma found her true passion in assisting and choreographing. Her mentor Kelsey Nelson quickly noticed this passion and from then on, Emma has assisted for numerous organizations, such as NDA’s Unleashed Camp, Act 1’s Artist of Year Audition, SADM’s Summer Intensive, CNADM’s Fall Workshop, and at dance studios across the country. Emma has also assisted in the filming of content for Kelsey Nelson’s Condition for Performance Program, and other concept videos. Outside of the studio, Emma continues to shine in many other areas, as she is her school’s Student Body President, an assistant photographer, and an aspiring artist. We are excited to see how Emma shines in her future endeavors, as she is currently in the college application process. Eight weeks ago yesterday (!) I had the impulse to get my friends on zoom and play music for each other. I called up @tommy_jack_pieper and the next evening we held a mini open mic, with a handful of incredible musicians and poets.
