**DIY** Ribbon Box! 🟥⚙️ When I first saw these Montessori Ribbon Boxes I thought they would be great for E to practice her twisting skills! I decided to see if I could put one together with supplies from Michaels! Bear with me, this is so confusing for me to try to explain the directions 😂😂 Please reference the photos near the end to see how it was built, and remember, nothing needs to be EXACTLY the same size and way that I did (and use what you have)! 🥰 ▪️I used a pack of my favorite unfinished wooden coasters from Michaels for the sides of the box and a 2 pack of unfinished wood square boards also from Michaels for the top and bottom of the box. They were slightly larger than the coasters but I didn’t mind! Using my scroll saw I cut out a rectangle from one of the coasters for the ribbon to go through. Using another (5th) coaster, I cut out a cog shape as well with my scroll saw. Then I had to figure out the inside mechanism! I needed a way to hold in the dowel that the ribbon and cog would be attached to. I used a scrap rectangle of thin wood and cut a square to attach to the inside side of the box and drilled a 1/2 inch hold through it (just bigger than my dowel.) This is where the dowel would rest but still be able to spin in it. In the coaster across from that, I drilled another 1/2 in hole for the dowel to exit. I loosely assembled the box and measured how long my dowel needed to be to go through the box and out for the cog. I left about a half inch sticking out of the box for the cog to attach and while it rested in the box, I marked the dowel directly inside the hole where I would drill a small hole through the dowel (the size of another tiny dowel I had that I plan to use to keep the big dowel from pulling out.) I always have prints for sale through my shop. Though it’s a bitter taste to promote my own work and an immense privilege to make money on my throw up I have to try. Before the pandemic I was full time and since I had to get a real job, which boohoo right but it has been very taxing working with the public especially in a more conservative area where I feel I hold the door open to Trump supporters all the time while my soul dies. Mixed with people out here don’t get the art thing or the mental health thing or the like this is a terrifying time thing, people are really just so put off that they have to acknowledge other people and that hand soap is still out of stock.
