Laced up for one of the most humid runs of my life this morning 😅 Lately I’ve been going into runs with the mindset of having no preconceived notions of how a run is going to feel. This mindset has enabled me to be positive through some really humid runs this summer and a lot of aerobic workouts the past few weeks! Read on for more details on how this mindset has helped me so much 😊⬇️ • So like I said, it’s veryyyy humid in VA where I live and I’m also trying a new way of training that I haven’t tried before with most days during the week being a medium or hard effort day. The humidity could make it tough to breath and the volume of workouts could leave my legs tired so it’s a hit for my lungs and legs! I did have preconceived notions before I started this training block that my legs were going to feel tired and heavy all the time, but when I let go of those expectations I realized my legs actually feel pretty light and bouncy most days and by not expecting them to feel a certain way I give myself freedoms to react to how I’m feeling each day and get the right effort in for the day whether it’s a hard, medium, or easy effort day. Knowing that I’m getting the right effort in gives me confidence that I’m getting in the right work for the day and helps me to enjoy training more because I’m not overthinking it. What an incredible two days this has been! I truly don’t know how to put it into words other than it was amazing and a true Americans dream! Levi and I are so humbly honored to have had the opportunity to participate in two amazing events! As two die hard Americans that love this beautiful country so much, I can promise you we soaked in every ounce of it. I felt every second of it to my very core. Today’s Friday Feature is on the other K of K2: Kelsey. This is her story in her own words... Growing up in a dance studio, I always had to have creativity outlet, which included receiving a Bachelor degree in Dance during college. I quickly realized the short lifespan of a dance career months after graduation & decided to enroll in the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandise (FIDM) in San Francisco to figure out what direction my path could go outside of dance. I received a degree in Visual Communications, which covered everything from wardrobe styling and window displays to event planning and marketing. During my 6 years of living in San Francisco, I danced for the NBAs Golden State Warriors dance team for 3 seasons & simultaneously started my own jewelry line that ended up on various celebrities & a few TV shows like the Bachelor. I decided to follow my dreams & move to LA to grow my jewelry business & expand my dance career, so I got a dance agent & started working as a professional dancer while interning for a few well-known celebrity wardrobe stylists. As I put in my time in both industries, I grew tired. My body hurt, my fingers hurt from jewelry making, & my dreams started to evolve into something outside of these worlds. After a 3-week long Thailand vacation, I came home & started over. I quit my dance agent & making jewelry, & was on a path to find a career that could sustain me but also keep me fulfilled. I didnt know what I wanted to do but I knew that one of my strengths is organization. One day, I realized I could fuse organization & my creative background together in event planning, so I cold-e-mailed 20+ different production companies in LA hoping one would take a chance on me even though I had zero experience..and one did, which is where I met Karrie. I got hired & became a junior event coordinator. I was with that company for a few years, then ventured off to freelance for other production companies in LA until ultimately, I decided that it was time to be my own boss & have my own clients... and I wanted Karrie to do it with me. Big breathe out. ▪️Cut it all off. Put a stop to the spiral thoughts you’re feeling. ▪️Another hugeeeeee breathe. ▪️Now—Put your game face on and move the heck on. All of that serves a purpose. ☀️Bring the party outside! It was Rosco’s chemotherapy graduation, & since clients are not allowed inside the hospital for routine exams due to Covid-19, outside we went to celebrate with dad. Rosco had osteosarcoma, the most common primary bone cancer in dogs, in his hind leg & had an amputation to remove the bone. He is what we call a tripod or #tripawd. After amputation, chemotherapy is recommended to prevent spread, most commonly to the lungs. Rosco did great with his amputation & carboplatin chemotherapy. 📊 Here are some osteosarcoma (OSA) stats: Swipe to see more graphics 🦴 This is a cancer most commonly seen in large & giant breed dogs, typically middle aged and older (7️⃣ to 9️⃣ years of age). The risk of osteosarcoma is 60 times higher in dogs weighing 7️⃣0️⃣ lbs. 🦴 But we also see it in young dogs (1.5-2 years old), and small dogs can get it too. 🦴 The most common sites are the ends of the bones towards the knee & away from the elbow and by the hock (ankle). Swipe to see the graphic 🦴 OSA has a high metastatic rate. 9️⃣0️⃣% of dogs already have micrometastasis to the lungs at diagnosis (even though chest X-rays look normal), that is why chemo is recommended after surgery. 🦴 Like Rosco, most dogs do well with amputation. Studies show: 9️⃣1️⃣% owners report no change in the dog’s attitude after amputation. 8️⃣8️⃣% owners report complete or near complete return to pre-amputation quality of life. 7️⃣3️⃣% owners report no change in recreational activity. 8️⃣6️⃣% owners would do amputation again. 🦴 Like Rosco, most dogs tolerate chemotherapy well. 8️⃣0️⃣% of dogs have no side effects. With carboplatin, the most common side effect is a low white blood cell count which Rosco did not have. Some dogs will have a temporary decreased appetite, or other mild GI side effects. 🦴 Like Rosco’s family, 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣% my clients love chemotherapy graduation day and our graduation certificates. (OK I might have made that one up, but I am pretty sure that is true) It took me 3️⃣ attempts to get in the back if Rosco’s SUV (It was really high, and I am short) ℹ️ Want more info? When we set out to start this business in 2018, we truly had no idea what we were starting. Just two sisters who were inspired and transformed and wanted to share it with others! Fast forward to today & The Sisterhood is over 1100 women strong, with nearly 400 Coaches. Many of our Coaches have gone to build their own beautiful communities of women, impacting thousands more. The ripple effect of our one crazy decision is humbling. The lives touched through these communities of support and accountability and encouragement - especially through such hard times - is what I call true fulfillment. I am so proud of the work we do. It has taken me over 4months to actually smile in my happy place. This week I started to feel back like myself. My workouts have been better more focused on the muscle im training and I am actually feeling the soreness. Beem trying to get my mental game back on instead of just going through the motions. you cam try to outdo your mind with physical strength but if you are not healthy mentally you get no where! no focus no concentration just exhausted emotionally got me no where for weeks and months. The little dude and I celebrated 3 years together at the end of July! ❤️ Sweet boy was found and went unclaimed for a month in foster care. A friend of a friend of a friend asked my roommate to watch him for a weekend while she went out of town. We happened to be going out in the pup’s direction an hourish outside LA to see Dunkirk in 35 MM IMAX, crucial details. When the movie let out we drove a little further out to pick him up at 1ish in the morning. As soon as he came running outside I scooped him up and felt like I’d known him my whole life. He rode home on my lap & we tried to guess his name but he wouldn’t answer to anything. I started listing off characters from my fav show The Wire: Bubbles, Snoop, McNulty, Omar and then...Wee-bey. He started kissing my face! This was me, last year when I dropped @cennetyler off to college. At the time we nearly didn’t make down to Georgia because I was going through withdrawals from the steroid used to treat my illness. My emotions and health was in a bad place, I was 30 lbs heavier, blemishes all over my face, feeling defeated most days, but Cenné kept me encouraged. While I recovered, she called all day, everyday, still remaining focused on her work earning 2, 4.0s. She was my reason to fight and get better. Friday 💭: Don’t compare your climb to someone else’s mountaintop. . It took me years of work to become a board certified OBGYN. The journey wasn’t easy. It has been filled with long nights, weeks where I thought I would never get through them, and disappointments. . Michael and I took a little bit to figure out if our relationship would work, and when we did (my last year of residency after committing to a job), we faced years of long distance, and to be together I had to leave a job earlier than planned which was very difficult. . But right now, we’re at the mountaintop. We’re together, newlyweds, we both LOVE our work and feel it fits our lives. . My point is, whether you’re just starting the climb or nearly at the top, keep going. Don’t get discouraged by those who don’t have the courage to climb, they’ll never reach your peak. Don’t give up because someone else is already at the top, there’s room for you up there too. .
