So in the comments below, ask me anything you want to know about the meaning and practice of cosmetics in ancient Egypt, and together, Michelle and I will tackle how we can relate ancient materials to modern cosmetics and the Egyptology background! How did Nefertiti get her perfect look? Did men and women both wear makeup? (brief answer: For ancient Egypt, especially during the New Kingdom, a great deal of cosmetics and clothing are not gender specific.) Ill answer these questions - and, if you leave a comment, many of yours! After achieving the ideal look, an ancient Egyptian woman could admire herself in a mirror. Swipe for my favorite example, from the burial of one of the foreign wives of Thutmose III (now @metmuseum) - you can still see your reflection in the silver surface! The gold handle of the mirror has the face of the goddess Hathor, who in simplistic terms would be the divine patron of cosmetics, because she is the goddess who embodies the eye of the sun god Re (eye being a feminine word in ancient Egyptian). The painted eye of Horus (which can be the lunar or the solar eye) is the healthy eye, and the galena used to fashion black eye liner has antimicrobial properties, which the Egyptians would have realized through experience (germ theory being thousands of years in the future ... although they did seem to understand such complex biological concepts as the circulatory system, but that is for another day). In honor of @hamiltonmusical coming to Disney plus today I wanted to share this clip of the original Hamilton Cast quite literally stopping traffic in downtown Manhattan during a @cosmopolitan photo shoot. Nesta última sexta-feira estreou um novo drama brilhante de Ryan Murphy, trazendo uma coleção de sangue, glamour e cor para as telas. Disponível nas plataformas da @netflix , Ratched é a história de origem da enfermeira Mildred Ratched, interpretada por Sarah Paulson, a personagem icônica do romance de Ken Kesey de 1962, Um Estranho no Ninho. Originalmente o protagonismo do filme ficou com Jack Nicholson, que interpretou o personagem Randle Patrick McMurphy, um homem que para escapar da punição policial escolhe se passar por louco e acaba sendo internado em um hospital psiquiátrico. Ratched tem um grande destaque no filme, sendo a enfermeira-líder, e a sua forma de trabalhar e lidar com os pacientes é conflitante com as vontades de McMurphy, o que faz com que eles entrem em conflito constante. Na série, Mildred Ratched será explorada ainda mais para mostrar o seu trabalho com a psiquiatria de forma perturbadora Passada na década de 1940 a série oferece um verdadeiro banquete visual de conjuntos retrô. Inspiradas no New Look da Christian Dior de 1947, famosa por suas jaquetas de barra de cintura fina. Ratched pode exalar frieza em sua personalidade mas seu guarda-roupa traz nada além de jovialidade e alegria.
