Strongly influenced by 5 months spent in 1914 in the atelier where the stained-glass windows of Chartres were being restored, a German artist hiding in France at the outbreak of WWI, Freundlich developed a highly political kind of abstraction (a “cosmic communism”) in which color fragments, curved forms and an energetic composition pointed towards a future of social reconciliation from the horrors of the First World War and then Nazism. Trajo aparejado un impacto fundamental que fue la visibilización y la naturalización del colectivo LGBTQ+. Then came peds appts— same thing. Every well appt he would ask and dr just gave us symptoms to watch for and said really nothing more to do. Fast forward 3.5 years— mid summer time. Our daughter was always thirsty, wetting the bed more often which was totally unusual for her, waking up in a panic in the middle of the night saying “I need to go potty” . We chalked it up as it’s hot— she’s been drinking a lot of water and this is the result. She was the flower girl in a wedding and she danced the night away and ate her whole plate and everyone was saying wow you must have been hungry! (She usually didn’t eat that much). Over the next few days we noticed she was still urinating more often. She had just started Flonase for a possible allergy. We met with her allergist and he said nope not a side affect of Flonase. So we scheduled an appt for the next day with her Ped thinking maybe UTI. But that night something told us diabetes. I asked a friend her sons symptoms and my husband asked his mom his brothers symptoms and they all matched. We took her BG with my brother in laws meters and she was 507! Rushed to ER. 3am on 8/7/19–we were at TMMC ER waiting for the ambulance to transport us to Miller Children’s Hospital, where we got the official diagnosis. To say we were scared, devastated, angry, confused— none of those words explain what we were feeling. Someone shortly after told us something along the lines of, you’re going to be surprised how far you’ll come in a year. That couldn’t have been more true. ✨The Toddler Nap✨ . . If you have seen my stories lately you know that our nap time is somewhat unpredictable. But thats ok. At least 50% of the time they do actually sleep and the other 1/2 they play in their room. So should I drop the nap? . . In my opinion, no. Even if they dont nap its a good chance for them to have quiet time. And even if they are not exactly quiet, I still believe in independent play in a safe environment. Plus, its time for mama to reset too. Is your kid playing by themselves? Thats ok! Promote it! Just make sure the room is safe and you can watch on the monitor. . . And If you have a younger toddler (under 2), you may try adjusting nap time. Try moving it earlier. And remember stick to whatever change you make for at least 5 days. . . I was thinking a couple weeks ago that what I really want to do in the world (with my artwork, at least) is create things that bring people a little bit of joy in the garbage fire that life can feel like. So, I’m dwelling on this thought one night when I get this photo from a dude who said his young buck begged him to take flicks of him on my sculpture at the library here in Richmond, and that he was really intrigued by the piece. Nothing could make me more stoked! Je me rappelle de nos questionnements, de nos idées, mais surtout, ce qui est encore très clair dans ma tête c’est l’énergie qu’on avait, la frénésie, le bouillonnement, du désordre, et à la fois un élan limpide, la palpitation de faire, de vivre, d’oser, de s’affranchir, et des piaffements à n’en plus finir parce que, envie de dire, de s’exprimer, de créer. À l’heure où j’écris ces lignes, à l’heure où il faut arrêter de se relire avec acharnement, lâcher prise, se détendre, et sourire, je prends enfin conscience, qu’il y a dans notre démarche de publication, tous les éléments abordés en rapport à la liberté dans ce premier numéro. Il faut laisser partir le vertige de l’intimité étalée, la peur du regard des autres, des jugements, qu’ils viennent de soi-même ou des autres, arrêter de se questionner sur la légitimité, cesser de se mettre toujours en rapport à des injonctions, des normes, des valeurs de société, cesser de vouloir définir, tout, notre publication, nos choix, de vouloir tout le temps simplifier ou justifier. Je crois qu’il est temps de planter fort ses racines dans la terre et de s’envoler. Premier numéro touffu d’une longue série de Toasts à empiler, il est là, le premier, Libres, ça, Céline, moi, cela signifie qu’au travers de nos mots, traits, couleurs, formes, phrases, mélodies, nous choisissons d’être, de dire, de poser, d’y aller. Il y a un engagement, celui de notre singularité, il y a nos idées, expériences, nos peurs, notre poésie, nos éclats, nos doutes, les échanges avec les autres, il y a une forme de nudité dans ces pages, voulue, osée, qui parfois nous fait tourner de l’oeil, mais tant pis, c’est nous, comme ça, c’est la vie, telle que nous la vivons, voulons. *Tips for your childs dental appointment* So... your child needs a filling!😬First, dont panic. Everything will be OK, I promise! I totally understand though, as a parent myself, its so hard to know what to do in these situations. But we actually do play a big role in how well the appointment will go. If we are relaxed, our child will be more relaxed. If we fill their minds with positive thoughts, they will come in with a more positive mindset, even if they are a bit nervous. As dental professionals, on our end, we have so many ways that we make kids feel at ease: 1) Tell-Show-Do: We tell them what we are going to do using kid-friendly descriptions like tooth tickler, sugar bugs, and sleepy jelly etc. We then show them so they have a visual. Every appointment Ill do a little filling on my glove to show them the magic of how a filling is hardened by the blue light. 2) We give them a way to communicate: I always tell them if they need a break, they can raise their left hand. They like to feel like theyre in control. 3) We ask them their opinion: What does this sleepy jelly smell like? Kids love to be included. 4) We reward them: all kids get a little toy/prize afterwards. This also gives them something to look forward to during the appointment. Every child is different and you know yours better than we do, but this is what Ive found works best for most kids. This was a dream project for me. While living in New York the art in the subway stations would always bring some relief and joy during the chaotic commute. Often while shoved against a smelly stranger on the train, I would close my eyes and imagine the places I would rather be. Reading tarot cards on a tropical island or sipping wine in an underwater restaurant? Sign me up! This project is also inspired by the inner sanctuary visualization technique in Shakti Gawain’s book Creative Visualization and the daydreaming I often did as a kid. 🌟🌟🌟 Tara Foster aka @lilmisstara of MTA Arts and Design and I met in the Fulton Center on March 6 to make sure all of the 52 screens were synced. Having moved to Richmond, VA in November, I was already nervous in early March about traveling to New York. The timing of this project has not been ideal, but I do wish it can serve as a delightful distraction for all of the essential workers still taking and operating the trains during the pandemic. Today we checked out @area15official and wow we are blown away! To sum it up (because there’s so much to explain about this facility) there’s more art than you can imagine... the workers look like they are from another planet and many of them are wearing lab coats. 😂😂😂 almost forgot we were on earth for a bit. Kids kept dancing with their characters that were walking around...fog in the air, music you’ve never heard before, and above you people are flying on the zip line, everything is every interactive and kid friendly! They have a ice cream parlor and a nice bar inside. Outside they have a restaurant with lots of seating and a bunch of TVs, which they had the football game on tonight. . Their tables are unique:They have connect 4 and Jenga tables with swing chairs! 😳😳😳 ya, I didn’t know that was a thing. 2 Huge seesaws just randomly placed under a giant disco ball, ya know the norm. 🤣 . There are places inside not open such as rocket fizz and a Axe place. You’ll need to make a visit to see the rest. I don’t want to spoil it for y’all. . As of right now you’ll go to their site.
