Almost finished this hanging that has been on my mind for months. Every week I tried to finish more and more hand made round discs (which took way longer than I expected!) but I got there in the end. Every single piece on this hanging was rolled out, cut to the size I wanted, pressed with my fingers to get the texture, smoothed around the edges and finished with a little hole in the middle. I made 113 in the end which dried on my deck over many weeks then off to the kiln. I’m am so happy with the way it’s turned out, so simple yet so textural and intriguing. It is super heavy so will need some claws or a stud haha but it’s worth it. I’ll get a full size pic soon, can’t wait for you all to see the finished piece. The glow of enameled Romanesque and Gothic shrines has always had a magical pull upon me, drawing me into the dark, often barely visited rooms of the museums. It was this glow that convinced me early on to translate vitreous enamel of the bygone artisans into a new visual language. To achieve this effect, one firstly requires a smooth gold surface that may be embellished with engravings and reliefs, and must be polished to a mirror-like perfection. Afterwards powder-like pulverized glass is applied with delicate brushes, sometimes even containing just one single hair. The next step leads into an oven where the enamel is melted at about 700-900C (1300-1600F), depending on the color (I imagine this is where the expression “glazing hot” comes from). Я не пропала. Ну, почти...🙈 Просто пытаюсь привести все дела и самочувствие в порядок после поездки. Сначала скажу спасибо огромное всем, кто приехал к нам на @Artflection, я очень была рада всем! ❤️ Большая благодарность организаторам - все было как всегда прекрасно, вы большие молодцы, обнимаю всех крепко. Случайно так вышло (даже не стала звонить никому из дружочков про встречи из-за большой доли неопределенности с планами и временем, попробуем снова осенью🙏), что после выставки заезжала в Питер на несколько дней по рабочим и семейным делам, а так же с робкой надеждой хоть денёчек отдохнуть и напитаться моим батареечным городом. Но как-то все в этот раз странненько получилось, многое пошло не так, слишком много не очень приятных открытий, уроков, расстройств и выводов на меня обрушилось параллельно, которые все нафиг испортили, и в голове пока что манная каша с комочками 😬🙈 Ничего, разгребусь. Главное, хотя бы комочки выловить... Всё же, чуть выдохнули в итоге, спасибо моим дорогим людям, которые были рядом со мной в этой поездке в Мск и Спб ❤️ Пока вот одной рукой за горелкой, а со второй стороны обложилась посылками на ближайшую отправку и чеками от уже отправленных, скоро всем отвечу до конца, в директе столпотворение из писем немного, простите меня. I am a forever student. One really important reason I founded @metalsmithsociety was because I wanted peer support and community. Jewelry making takes a lifetime to master and throw being a perfectionist on top of that 🙋‍♀️I always feel like I can improve. Lately I am working on thick bezels, bezels you have to hit with a setting tool and hammer. My friend @marquisjewelryacademy has been helping me out with some one-on-ones. This pendant (with a stunning turquoise from @turquoise_moose ) is one of the fruits of my labor. Learning to master a skill can be frustrating for me, I want to immediately be awesome but it’s taken me practice and patience. Today I have been putting the finishing touches to the other leaf pendants and I have made a pair of earrings 🍁 I made a mould of this pendant which I then used to make 2 more leaves before soldering stud backs on. The clay shrinks in the process to the earrings are a little smaller than the original piece. Have you ever found something in the ocean that is truly priceless? Im not talking about GoPros, wedding bands, nor Spanish bullion. Im talking truly epic. Well, that happened to me a few years ago when I did a 350 training dive and peered into a cave at the bottom. Inside were what appeared to be glistening, green pearls growing on stalks. Limited in time at that depth, I grabbed a few stalks and impatiently jammed to the surface to inspect my find. Without hesitation I tossed several of the green beads into my mouth. What extraordinary chew they had! And how they burst in my mouth, coating my palate with a delightfully salty gel! . Needless to say, I kept revisiting the cave to satisfy my cravings for this mysterious macroalgae. I began to notice a potential benefit—my diving kept improving, breath-hold times soared, and recovery was immediate. I had found the divers equivalent of Popeyes spinach! I kept my secret for the last few years, but I found a reason to reveal it recently... . I began working at @symbrosia.co a few months ago. We focus on trying to save the planet by reducing methane emissions from cow burps by incorporating limu kohu into their feed (80% reduction!). But when I noticed a few tanks going unused I introduced my superalgae in hope of propagating it (since freediving 350 for it was sort of a pain). Enduring lots of failure and near-misses, I finally dialed in the right combination of nutrients to make my crunchy vegan caviar multiply! . In the interest of learning market potential I shot straight for the moon: would @regalisfoods, purveyor of commodities for the gastronomical elite, stock my delicacy? My initial inquiries were ignored—didnt utter the right password. But when I submitted a photo of me hanging out with Hiroyuki Sakai (Lord of the Iron Chefs) I finally heard back from Mr. Purkayastha. Overnight some of your asset to me and if it pairs well with my lunch tomorrow—squid ravioli and lemongrass broth, goat cheese profiteroles, and sea urchin ceviche—Ill think about it. In the name of sharing more of my “work in progress” rooms, here’s a little peek at my office. The rug was in our dining room at our last house, the art was in our old master, and the lamp used to sit on our foyer table. This room is such a mashup! The desk, which was my dad’s when I was a kid, is my favorite thing in the space. I have great memories of him making phone calls from this desk while I used the back of the nearby huge old sectional as a balance beam. As long as I was quiet, he let me hang out while he worked, and I idolized him, so just being there seemed cool to me!
